Issue 12: Helping the Maria Stark Foundation (All)

"I'm not saying I don't want to do this Steve." Clint Barton replied, making his second attempt at tying his tie. "I just don't get how Tony can throw a charity benefit and then back out. As much as the Maria Stark Foundation has done to help us out, he could have blown off a meeting with Panther for one day."He looked up as Edwin Jarvis entered carrying a pair of tuxedo jackets. "Just don't tell T'Challa I said that."

"You're jackets, gentleman." Jarvis said," And may I say how nice it is to see you getting out in a more social capacity."

Hawkeye rolled his eyes, then started over tying his tie with a groan.



[Wolverine and Aura]

In the main hall, Janet Van Dyne stood with her arms folded, scowling at Aura," I don't understand why you wouldn't let me design you an outfit for tonight? Or at least let me help you pick something out?" The Wasp's outfit was garish mishmash of color.

"Some people have no taste." Songbird replied with a slight smirk. " I feel really bad I drew the short straw and have to hold down the fort tonight."

Tabitha walked around the corner wearing a form fitting black evening dress. "I hate this." She uttered under her breath and looked at Logan for sympathy, pulling down her dress. " Why do I have to go? Can't you get me out of this? Please? And, uh, wow, you actually do clean up ." She grinned despite her being uncomfortable.



[Spiderman]


Mary Jane was putting in her earrings, looking in the mirror at Peter getting ready." I know your becoming one of the Avengers is a big deal Tiger, but do you realize who comes to soirees like tonight? The who's who of society will be there." Her eyes glistened with anticipation. " This is incredible. Remind me to thank your new friends if we run into them."

Outside, a horn blared a couple times, drawing Mary Jane's attention. "Peter, there's a limosene out front waiting with what looks like a Stark Industries logo on it. You don't suppose...?" he question trailed off.


[Daredevil]

"Look, I just don't understand why you just can't tell me what is going on" Foggy Nelson pried over the speakerphone. " Look, we're partners, right? So how come I'm the one up to his neck in clients who most of them can't afford us and you're offjetsetting and now less than a week going hobnobbing with high society. We both know I'm the one who's better with people like that." Foggy didn't mean to sound whiney, it just came naturally.

Cap straightens his tie and puts on his jacket with military precision. "Trust me, Clint, the one thing you never, ever, want to do, is try and ditch T'Challa." Steve gives a slight smile. "As for this benefit, the Maria Stark Foundation helps funds the Avengers, and serves to prevent people from being victims. Anything we can do to help that goal is as useful as a fight with Ultron any day."

Aura looks at Janet confused as heck, "What is wrong with what I am wearing and where we are going. This is after all the only thing I have, and to be practical Xeeee bought me multiples of it so I never have to worry, how did she say it, never have to worry about fashion or anything like that." Her normal clothes being grey jogging pants and grey t-shirt to match.

She then spots what Tabitha is wearing and feels almost sorry for her.

Blink was in something simple. of course matching her skin tone meant a limitation on colors. Black, or some obscure shade of purple or her typical light green shade. her hair was held up by a pair of shorter darts.

She recalled the party Magento was at with President Kelly and how boring that was. "another fun night and I'm the only purple one here..." she mused to herself.

[HSummers]

Peter puts on his best suit and slings his camera around his neck. "Unfortunately, your friendly neighborhood Peter Parker is going instead of the Amazing Spider-Man. Which means that I don't really know any of these people and I'm just there to take pictures and follow my beautiful wife around. Ugh..." Peter fastens his cufflinks and straightens his bowtie. "You think at least Cap will find a way to talk to me? I love it when he talks to me."

When the limo shows up, Peter shoves his costume into his backpack, covers it with photography equipment, nods at MJ and says "Ready my dear?" He then takes her arm and walks out to the limo with her, backpack and all.

Beside the limo, the driver looked at Peter and Mary Jane as they approached arm in arm. " Evening folks. Would you be a Ms. Mary Jane Parker and her husband?"

" We are." MJ replied, a hint of excitement in her tone.

"Very good." The driver replied, opening the door for them.

[Cap]

"I know, that's why I agreed to tag along." Clint replied, letting the tie alone to slip on his jacket.

Jarvis stepped forward, his hands towards Hawkeye's tie " Allow me."

Clint waved him off, " I can hit a quarter on the side of a moving truck while hanging upside down, I'm sure I can tie a Windsor knot. Just out of practice."

"Good enough. Can I do anything else for you this evening?"

[Others]

Songbird glanced at Blink," I bet no one considered that, Blink. I guess you could stay here with me so you don't stand out in the crowd." She offered sympathetically.


"Those are fine for lounging around here or at the gym." Janet replied, taking Aura by the arm.

Tabitha nodded despite her own uncomfortableness," She's right. As much as I hate it, we have to dress up a little for tonight."

Steve makes a few last minute adjustments. "I believe we are alright, Jarvis. How are our new young friends adjusting?"

Tally looks at the rest of them, and then at her own skin and notices the big difference in the skin colour. Realizing that regardless of what happens she will stick out based off that info alone and as such she has to comment. "But, my skin is not the same as all of yours. I mean will I not stick out regardless. Would it be better to stay behind so as not to cause any discomfort to the rest of you all?" This being the first time her looks may have made a difference and an issue.

[HSummers]

Peter lets MJ in the limo first before he gets in himself. "Looks like we're riding in style tonight, babe. Glad to be the husband of a famous lady! Ooooooh... Is that Pellegrino?" He puts his bag down in the limo and enjoys the ride.

[Dome]

"Look Foggy," Matt Murdock starts, "if its not about the firm, then you know what I am doing. You also know I prefer a courtroom to a room full of rich kids flaunting their money. If I had it my way we could switch places. Sometimes though there are things that I have to do that you can't."

Pausing for a moment, DD then continues, "Foggy just handle these clients for now,we both know your good at that too, and I will make it up to you, I promise. I gotta go Foggy, we'll talk again real soon.

DD hangs up and shakes his head, 'the poor guy. I really need to find a way to make this up to him. For now I better get moving.'

Opting to try for a normal night out Matt Murdock dons his suit over his costume. Running his hands over his clothes making sure everything is in place, Matt then grabs one of his billy clubs, now turned into a bland mans cane, and makes his way outside. Hailing a cab he tells the driver to take him to the location of the event. He then just sits back and waits to arrive.

He goes over the last week in his mind, seeing Elektra again, then watching her leave him one more time. Lost in thought he sits quietly until the driver tells him they arrive.

"I guess mutants being the dominate population of North America really does change ones perspective. " she answered Songbird trying to not too feel to out of place. It was a first for her to be concerned about being a mutant. Now she didn't have her worlds Genetic Fundamentalist movement looming about with the Mutant trackers. that at least was not a concern.

"As long as there is no hint of Sinister or his gene trackers I'll be good." she smirked, "I take it your not so fond these parties?" Blink spoke with look about to get at all the entrances and windows.

Dr. Foster appeared in the doorway," You two are in luck. Hank McCoy shared some of his toys with us. Just press this button and," he demonstrated by pressing and he went from african american to caucasian, then back again with another press. He gave one to Aura and one to Blink. " Just keep them in your handbag. Apparently Angel has used them in the past and they even help conceal his wings."



Jarvis shrugged," As well as can be expected for dimensionally displaced children with mutant abilities."

"Lucky we still have four walls then." Clint remarked. " I'll get this on the way."

"Good idea," Jarvis said," The others are waiting for you."



[Peter and Matt]

The taxi pulled in behind a limo, and Matt could hear the buzz of a crowd lined up to look on, with cameras flashing. The driver laughed," It's like the oscars or something."

The driver got the door for Peter and MJ as they pulled up. "Oh Peter, isn't this exciting?" She said as she got out.

Steve finishes his adjustments and joins the others. "Thank you as always Jarvis."

Tally having not been given clothes yet let alone a bag looks at the wasp. Part of her is confused and equally torn as she wants to go but not stick out, but equally does want to be herself. "I can be myself too I was just more worried about everyone else in the group being put off by it? And what bag?"

Blink looked at it and not having a hand bag. but was smart enough to have a pocket clip it too. McCoy not a name she was fond of. It was scientists like him that made Apocalypses rule possible. The unbridled and unhindered efforts 'improve' mutant kind were far from gentle. In all her travels she still had slight cringe of fear at his names mention. Clarissa knew there was no rational to the fear, but it still there. Survival instinct was strong..
