"We have to try something." McKenna said. she looked where flip was looking and saw the detector she had missed. " Can we set it off? Or if we tamper with it will the ship pick up we were at it? If you tell me how, I might be able to rach it with your help." she got to her feet despite the gravity fluxs, not letting go of the railing.

Flip looks at the fire alarm, and thinks about it, "that may not be a good idea MJ. If we do something to damage it and it sends a false signal back to the computer, it could think this stairwell is on fire and seal it, which it has already done, and then try to put the fire out. On an old ship like this, well thats either going to mean venting to space or fire suppression which still wont be healthy for us."
He pauses and looks around again and then says, "I'm sorry MJ but I think we just need to stay put for the moment." Pausing a second he then says, "hey was Mr. Smith a suspect in your investigation into the attack?"

McKenna wasn't happy about Foreman's answer, but she accepted it. " I don't know who is on Jess' list. I was just helping with the going through the video feed from the surveillance camera." She glanced up at the ceiling as she sat down on a step. " Wish there was a camera in here. the Captain always seems to show up in the middle of everything else, where the heck is he this time?" Her fear was starting to subside into annoyance. " Why, what about Smith?"

Flip shakes his head, "its nothing really just a thought. He's always struck me as shady, asking about the auto pilot and stuff. We see him a second ago and now he's gone and the stairway locks shut just after he exits. One of those things that make you think you know?" He stairs off at the wall as if he is doing some thinking.
After only a brief pause he says, "oh don't worry about the captain, I'm do for my duty shift soon to relieve him. When I don't show he'll come looking or send Jessica."

Foreman, still looking around the stairwell, says while slowly moving his eyes across the ceiling, "I'm still trying to think of a way out MJ. I was just saying that someone will come looking soon." Looking directly at her he says, "besides I'm the lucky one here. I'm here with you. You got the short end of the stick here. Your stuck with me," he shrugs his shoulders as he finishes his statement.
He diverts his eyes back to the ceiling. His eyes keep moving and stop at the alarm thing again, "The only thing in here is that fire alarm. But its risky. Do you have anything on you? A pen, a hair clip? anything. Heh, a stick would be great," he says as his eyes again sweep the room looking for anything they may have missed.
As he looks around he says, "didn't the stairwell Johnson was attacked in have a camera, it just went off line? Why doesn't this one?" The question clearly not directed at MJ as he continued looking around the area. His gaze resting on any lights either in the ceiling or along the actual stairwell for a second before continuing on.

In the stairwell,
Just as Foreman was looking for something to use, the lights went out, the air still flowed, and the gravity disappeated completely (they are no in a dark free fall). It was now pitch-black.
On the bridge,
The lines are disconnected.
Tawfeek leans over and looks at the engineer's post to see which system was affected. "I'm going to check the stairs." He says. "Keep at it."
In Engineering,
Mensk sees the 6-Flags warning has been stopped and there is now a complete power inerruption in the stairwells.
Back in the stairwell,
They hear a thump on the door. "Anyone there?" Yells Tawfeek's voice.

When the lights go out Flip immediately feels for MJ and moves towards her. As soon as he is close enough he grabs her and pulls her to him, "are you ok MJ? I'm right here. We'll figure something out," he says as he holds onto her. He knows she must be scared as he is frightened himself.
When he hears the thud and the captain's voice he relaxes. He yells out over her head, "CAPTAIN, ITS FLIP. I'M IN HERE WITH M...I MEAN DOCTOR MCKENNA. WE'RE IN ZERO-G AND THE DOORS ARE SEALED SHUT."

Jessica nods at Tawfeek "Let me know if anyone is trapped." she says to him as he leaves. Once he's gone, she sighs to herself in a tired fashion and continues investigating the situation to see if there was another problem with the hardware.

"I'm okay. "McKenna replied, relaxing a bit, the darkness less concerning than the constant gravity shifts. she had trained for zero-G rescue, and she had never been afraid of the dark. Then a thought occured to her, "Dammit, Mr. Johnson." She didn't move except to let the lack of gravity float her around, instead shouting," CAPTAIN, WE'RE FINE, BUT SOMEONE SHOULD CHECK ON MY PATIENT. IF SOMEONE WANTED TO FINISH HIM OFF, TRAPPING ME OUT OF THE WAY IS THE PERFECT TIME TO DO IT."
She spoke calmly to Foreman again," Flip? Are you okay? You sound a little tense. Try to relax."

Flip whispers back to her in the dark, "I'm doing ok MJ. Just want to make sure he hears us thats all."
He puts his arms around her and pulls her closer to him. "I floating in zero-g with a beautiful woman and someone just turned the lights down. I think I'm a lucky man." He doesn't mention that with power down and the grav platting off the only thing left to fail in that section would be life support.
He says, "you know we could be stuck in here a while. It just depends if they can get Mensk focused enough to figure out what the problem is and get him to fix it. At least someone knows we're in here."

"Yeah." Tawfeek's voice said, sounding clearer. "I know you're in there, lucky man. I also know how to use a stethoscope. Stay tuned."
A minute later, they heared the tell-tale click of a speaker system. "This is the captain speaking. We are experiencing significant technical difficulties with the stairwells. At this time, we ask that all crew not on duty, and all guests remain in their quarters until the issue is resolved. Thank-you."
And the speakers went dead
Then came on again. "Also, our time of arrival on Mars will be a few days ahead as planned, and the weather there is currently sunny, with a moderate Martian temperatures around the equator. Thank-you." And went dead again.

On the bridge
Taweek arrived and made the announcement, and was fiddling with the screens at the same time.
After he ended the second announcment, he looked over. "Do what you have to to keep those arcs from happening again." He said to Jessica. It was the familiar tone, where chicken sacrifices are welcome, if it made a difference.

Jessica simply nods at Tawfeek as she replies "I'll do the best I can, though Mensk's help would be beneficial." As she continues to work, she asks "Was anyone trapped in the stairwells?"
