"Corporal, you take whatever breaks this job throws you." He glanced down at the Tori and her snack, shaking his head slightly. " I'm no expert, but from what I'm told, we don't have to worry about one village blabbing to the next, even if we probably are the only squad withing a thousand miles with two cats. And as for votes, don't waste your time. Captain makes the decisions, and the rest of you follow her orders." He glanced at Sam, hiding a smirk.

"And what do you get to do while we figure out how to follow those orders, Shepheard?" Socrates asks rather quietly, his head swivelling over to Shep, the tone at the end indicating he recognized what Shep's name was short for. He understood the cats' concern, and the matter was not suitably resovlved, despite Shep's improved health and humour. Shep needed to live up to his rank, or this will all fall apart with infighting.

Tori's ears flattened as Shep told her to shut up and take orders. She was a CS Navy SEAL and needed no lecture on how to follow orders, or instruction about military protocol.
"Beg your pardon, sir. I was answerin' Cpl. Richardson's interrogative as a peer, not plottin' a mutiny or commitin' any other act of insubordination, sir. I'll take your advice to heart, sir." She bit down into her fish, enjoying the flavor and freshness, as she took a seat beside Janxi. Though her best friend could read her mind, it didn't take much. She was bored and depressed. Mainly, she was tired of being reprimanded by Shep every time she opened her mouth. If it wasn't a reprimand from Shep about something obvious, it was a rebuke from Socrates for either reaching out, chewing 'nip or not sharing the damn coffee.
At this point, she wanted most to put the mission behind her.

Janxi swished her tail aside for Tori to sit down. Then she passed a bottle of Abe's hot sauce to her partner in crime.
"Yeah, T-Bone. I know." She doused a little sauce on her rib and finished the last bite with a mouthfull larger than most humans could swallow. "Got any more of that lick-rish?

Sam nods at the barbarian and says, "We'll be here." As they wait, Sam politely declines the licorice but accepts the lemon tea from Janxi with a smile of thanks. She nods at Shep's comment and adds, "Sometimes unfortunately we need to give up some information in order to get the info we need." Her tone is casual as she scans around them for any signs of trouble.

"Come" Loomed a voice from the doorway as it opened. " Remove headwear and lower weapons." They were ordered . Shep ushered everyone inside. To the cats and Soc, the place reeked of magic eminating from the three men standing at the front, adorned in armor made from dinsaur bones from the look of them. The one furthest from them spoke," My daughter says you saved her and her friends from a giant spider and that you need help in finding someone. Is this true?" The other two merely watched.

Tori tossed the remains of her fish into a rubbish bin or a firepit or fireplace, whichever was convenient. She gave her paws a hygienic lick then groomed her face quickly, as only a cat could and took off her boonie to comply with instructions. Then, she gave Janxi a piece of her licorice, sliding the tin back into her pocket, and took a nip to calm herself. She dropped her rifle down to her side on its sling. They may not like the CS, and on another mission, might be an enemy. This time out, the mages were not their enemy, and no parent would ever harm the saviors of their cubs. It was an unwritten rule. Tori took small comfort in that, knowing the three mages could zorch the entire team with little effort. She seemed to shift her center of gravity lower, and balanced on her knees, to run like hell if she had to. Magic scared the little cat to death and the only part of her that could sweat-her palms- grew moist. She seemed to shrink in her posture.
When quizzed, Tori simply nodded her head, and kept her focus on the speaker. She would leave verbal responses to the humans.

As they were bring lead in, Socrates glanced over at Janxi - as the most physically powerful member of the team, she would end up being the first target, after Sam. At the same time, he knew any mutant with the word "kill" in its classification was a recipe for trouble, here. He made eye contact with her, to make sure she wasn't too anxious.
After being lead in, Socrates stood to Sam's left side, behind her, as much body guard as anything. As the leader of the three spoke, Socrates said nothing, and did nothing. He simply listened, and watched to the sides of the group, making sure there wasn't someone who might disagree with the leader's generosity.

Janxi took the licorice and ate it. Her large white teeth made short work of the candy. Beside her black fur, the huge canines looked even more menacing.
When the door opened, the feeling of magic nearly knocked her down. She was raised and trained to hate that stuff almost as much as juicers. The hair on her back stood up in fear, but her armor covered most of it. Then she caught Socrates staring. She shot him a sneer for his troubles.
She pulled off her utility cover and followed Tori in. Her rifle remained in hand, but pointed to the ground. Even hocused, she knew she could take a few wizards down with her. Like Tori, she kept her mouth shut and hoped the tribe would not decide to punish the team for the sins of a nation.

Sam enters and removes her helmet as requested, slinging her rifle over her shoulder, leaving it pointed at the ground. Sam answers politely, "That is true. Our doctor also assisted in providing first aid to one of your daughter's friend who had hurt his arm."

The three elders looked at one another. " So she has also told us. We don't understand though. Your kind bring us nothing but misery when they come into our lands, with your big guns and skull armor and flying machines. Even having you in our village is not a good omen...."
He was cut off by another," The Marlins seem to disagree with you."
"They are the rarity." The first said. " Because you helped our young, we will return the favor as best we can. What do you require to leave our village in peace?"

Richardson did as ordered removing his helmet, lowering his weapon still held at his waste but now pointed at the ground. He stands behind the group and instead of squaring with the front he stands at an angle to the door so he can see the group but still keep his eyes on the doorway. He didn't think they were in danger, but he didn't want their way out blocked.

No hocusing so far. No shadow beasts leaping on them and shredding. The old "Drink your fill and be on your way" approach seemed to be best for the team and for the village, who only wanted to live in peace. Knowing the CS, they may not leave it be for long, but for now, these people were not the objective. Five days, five months, five years from now could be another story. She knew the tribe was rightly suspicious of the team. She would have given the boat, some chow and water and told a CS team to get as far from their homes as quickly as possible.
Tori sighed a bit, with relief, and relaxed her posture substantially. She remained ready for a duster, just didn't look like she was ready for one. She even nodded in gratitude to Nala's father, but remained silent.

Socrates remained absolutely still throughout the discussion, pleased that nothing seemed intent on disturbing it. Still, he never look his eyes off his surroundings, watching where each person was looking. (Perception: [dice=20])
He was somewhat pleased that, despite the CS's foibles in attempting to spread the light of humanity, the barbarians here were willing to help them in exchange for the one act of kindness. Certainly, they could help educate the CS on charity's place in the future of humanity.[rand=022982000362720699847569776155064800623021850324118987332117649]

Sam smiles politely, not showing offense to what the elders were saying. Sadly, the CS didn't have a good reputation (and for good reason) among magic users. Luckily the elders were at least wiling to hear them out and not simply attack them. Sam tells the elder, "We are not here to bother your village. We are here to rescue a squad of soldiers that are being held in Char and are looking for transportation to get us there."
