Socrates got off his boat and stood, his almost expression-less eyes watching the mage. Great thing about infantry was the ability to look menacing, thoughtless and hungry with the same face. The dog-boy said nothing, not even a growl, the eyes would be enough.
He was holding his rifle, much more like Janxi: ready to start shooting, but not actually about to.

Richardson stands on the dock with Tori and Janxi. He sweeps the dock and the surrounding area.

No attacks came, but there were lots of watchful eyes as the barbarian led Nala and the squad towards the largest building in the village, a prerifts structure of some sort. "Wait here." He said, then took Nala inside first.

Tori investigated the structure. If it had writing, she couldn't read it, but she might be able to discern its purpose without moving around or upsetting the natives. It certainly looked old.
With little to do but wait, she stayed alert for trouble, and kept her mouth shut but her eyes open. She did what she could to learn more about Nala's tribe. She looked for weapons, D-Bees, and signs of magical items. The Coalition had a nasty reputation with people like this, but she hoped rescuing the cubs would make up for the history of abuse. If it didn't, knowing the enemy might mean survival. She looked for other leaders, a command post (other than the one they seemed to be at), communications equipment and weapon placements and fortifications.
She passed the licorice to Sam and swished her tail slightly, in a friendly and inviting gesture. In her other hand was her rifle, ready if there should be trouble from the natives.

Socrates followed in order, his mind churning through the community. His mind went through the list of ones he had patrolled, simple like this, but razed to the ground because they didn't fit the CS definition of a good place. He had always wondered what they looked like before it had been hit by the CS.
When they got to the building, he analyzed it, reading any signs on it the building.

Janxi saw little to do, and hated waiting for something to happen. She paced a little and fidgeted before removing her pack and pulling out an MRE. She zipped it open with her claw and inspected the contents. She slipped a few of the bags into the heater and warmed them. The next package she opened was a pork rib, which she doused in sauce, and began to eat.
She offered the "chocolate, heat stabilized" to Shep and her drink mix to Autumn. Shep was growing on her, even if he wanted to "break up the band" because he'd made some other good decisions. The cheddar spread and crackers were offered to Richardson. The lemon tea went Sam's way.
As she chomped her ribs, she looked around the village, looking for tracks that might denote vehicles or farm machinery. Mostly, she wished something, anything, would happen.

Richardson accept the chips, and says, "thanks Janxi." He looks around the village as they wait to be escorted in.

Shep slipped the chocolate into his pocket," You furballs, always thinking with your stomachs."
Life in the village seemed to continue as normal, but it was clear the squad was being watched and that their presence was creating a fair bit of tension. "Just relax people." Shep said nonchalantly, " Be out of here in no time."

Richardson who had been totally silent since the spider incident speaks up, "should we even be here sir? I mean this was supposed to be a covert rescue op, first we make friends with an old guy and his dog, and now this whole village knows we are here. We're not exactly doing to hot on the covert part."

"I am relaxed." Socrates lied. "It's that everyone in the village was more relaxed before we got here. An issue of relative differences. Also, he [Richardson] brings an interesting question that ought to be addressed."

Tori, looking quite bored, began uncasing her bow. She mounted a reel on the side, and attached the leader to a well-barbed arrow with no fletching. "Yeah, we think with our stomachs, cuz we need a-lotta meat. I think I might jus git myself something better than an MRE right now!"
As she walks off with a disgruntled snuff, she looks at Richardson. "I vote yeah, cuz we need a boat, and we still got no idea where we're goin', unless Shep is holdin' out and knows where our objective is. If we're goin to Char, we got off the sub too far to walk, unless we git there two months from now. Plus we need some reliable intel. And we can't let that there spider eat them cubs." She put a 'nip in her mouth
She walked away, tail swishing crossly to the dock or the nearest swamp's edge. Waiting a moment, she crouched.
Suddenly, she stood, knocked the arrow, and fired into the water, before reeling in a nice plump catfish.

Socrates watched Tori just get up and walk away. Then looked over at Richardson. "Any new information you would like to bring about our covert behaviour?"

Tori removed the harpoon from the fish and returned it to her quiver after cleaning it off. She removed the reel and returned to the group, fish in hand. "Unless anyone else wants some?" She said, just to be polite, then zipped open the fish with a claw, removed scales and began to eat it as a natural cat. The little fishing cat sat beside Janxi and listened to the continuing conversation, but it was clear her meal held her attention much better.

Richardson looks at Socrates trying to read his expression concerning his last question. Not being able to since he is a dog, he shakes his head, "I've said my piece," is all he says before moving off down the dock some. 'I don't know if he is screwing with me, but I'm just so tired of this whole thing. I'll be glad when this mission is over,' he thinks to himself.
