Solaxis looks over the data trying to recall the basic training he received to help decipher the data and translate it for the captain and crew into a usable overview of what type of society they may be dealing with anthropology pass 1d100=22/30% archeology fail 1d100=60/25%

Once he was cleaned up, Balus put on his uniform and made his way quickly to the command deck. He had heard bridge assgnments were usually reserved for senior or distinguished members of the security forces, so he wasn't sure why he was here as he stepped off the lift, looking around tentatively.

"captain, I'm in no way the scientist our doctor Kiaden here is, but can I make a recommendation or suggestion? if I understand correctly, all this data is from long range sensor scans, correct? if we have the capability or the capacity, would it be possible or prudent to send an unmanned remote probe to collect actual atmospheric, soil and water samples? we could learn much more with an accurate analysis of mineral content and biological lifeforms present in such samples, which might give us more insight as to the evolutionary cycles this planet has experienced?"

"This planet is freezing, Captain," Kiadan says after a little bit. "And that's not a good sign. Whatever beings will live here are probably going to be extremely hardy; cold temperatures tend to breed sturdy giants; and we have to assume they're equipped with primitive tech... probably little better then muzzle loaders." She sniffs disdainfully. "Poor primates," she says. "Though I am interested in their tech; can you please bring back samples? It's hard to say how ingenious they could be. I've long theorized that given harsh climates rapid increased in technology could be deduced. It would be TRULY fascinating." 1d100=47, 1d100=90Mechanical Engineering = 47 outta 49 - Pass Electrical Engineering = 90 outta 64 - Failure ((Edit: Forgot to show my roles.))

(Kiadan)
Judging by the scans, there is no way they have long-range communication or nuclear power. Heavy industry is probable given the atmospheric readings.
(Solaxis)
Your own guess is that on a world such as this, the natives might be industrialized but fairly primitive. Societies in such harsh climates are prone towards high levels of tribalism and various forms of darwinistic behaviours.
Captain Roben nods. "Yes, but the reasons our sensors are so advanced was so we didn't need to use our probes. But I agree that we should use one. I'll send you and Dr. Kiadan the telemetry. I'll want both of your benefit/cost analysis on whether or not to attempt contact."
(Balus)
You get your briefing and you and Slycer will be on detail with any landing or survey teams.

Solaxis nods "I'll review my findings with Dr. Kiaden until the probe data comes in. hopefully, it will at least confirm our current findings and at best give us additional data and information to work from" Solaxis takes his information to Dr. Kiaden for a collaborative review.

Once the briefing was done, Balus looked at Slycer," Guess they think we make a good team. I'll try to keep you from getting hurt this time." he smirked.

"We should be safe to sit in high orbit captain; I doubt they're beyond simple electrical pulses over wires yet," she smiles. "Perhaps they still use men upon four legged beasts of burden."
She arches an eyebrow at the captain. "Will you be requiring me to be deployed for scientific research or will I be staying here?"

The Captain looks at Solaxis and Kiadan. "If you wish to go on a landing party, that is your choice. But as you are the government and science representatives, I would like you to confer and see if the two of you can agree to the best course of action. Should you be unable to resolve a dispute, bring it to me and I shall provide the final word as mission commander."
(Balus)
Slycer shoots back. "And I'll be there to hold your hair again. What were you thinking having such a big lunch before zero-G combat?" Slcyer smirks.

" Well if I was a little guy like you, I wouldn't need so much." Balus was smirking as he said it, but the expression faded," And you know why I lost it too. hopefully I'm passed that. It's just....., I slaughtered them with my bare hands. doesn't that worry you too?"

Solaxis nodded politely to the captain and the doctor "of course, but I'm sure we should be able to work something out. as of right now, I'm hesitant to interfere with any developing species that have yet to achieve even rudimentary space exploration unless there's a definite benefit that outweighs the risk, such as some natural resource we desperately need."
"I don't see how beneficial it would be to drag a primitive species into a war with the tarlok even as potential allies. I think our time is best spent looking for allies among planets with detectable levels of technological advancement such as satellites and communications. if we focus our efforts there, our search might prove more productive. concentrate on gathering the 'low hanging fruit', as it were"

Kiadan arches an eyebrow. "Well you could always outfit them as shock troopers and grunts with superior tech," she says. "Or you can begin experimenting on them to find the best qualities of their race and then extract that to add to another," Kiadan continues not looking at Solaxis. "Rudimentary facilities like this would take awhile to do that however... much simplier I would think to gift them with advance tech and ask them to help us... if one were feeling generous."
She turns to look at those assembled. "Where I in position to start a war I would use low tech people for my wars as they are expendable," she finishes without so much as batting an eye. "Give them tech to put a dent in your enemy forces and send them to war and you have a dangerous resource."
"As to the matter of descending to the planet; I will only go if I'm needed to. I have much research and testing to do up here on the ship."

(Balus)
Slycer laughs. "Nope. Not even a little. Anything that takes the Tardoggies down is fine by me." as the two of you hit the locker room to gear up.
(Kiadan and Solaxis - note that you are on the command deck)
Captain Roben rubs his chin. "This is all true, but you are both missing parts of the arguement. Ambassador, despite their low level of technology, they may have minerals we can use, as well as the fact that we can treat with them for system resources. And Doctor...slavery is what we are against on all matters. Please keep this in mind. What are your final recommendations?"

" That's not what I meant." Balus replied as he started to change into his working clothes." I never would have thought I could do something like that." After a pause , he admitted," It scares the heck out of me."

Solaxis smiled, politely correcting the captain "I believe I did mention 'natural resources' as a possible exception to the rule, but our scans should help determine that in short order, and if not, the primary reason I advised a probe launch to verify. that should give us an accurate indication if there is anything on the planet worth disturbing it's inhabitants. if the probes come back negative for necessary or useful resources, I suggest we quietly move on and look elsewhere."
