" Yeah, whatever." Shepherd snaps a half hearted salute to the officers before turning and walking towards Snowball. " My head is just fine, thanks." He says to Ellie as he passes with a smile before turning his attention to Mikey as he continues along. With a wicked grin, he thumps the cyborg's helmet with the butt of his rifle. " You've got a big mouth."
Mikey replied sheepishly with his arms outstretched to his sides." Sorry Boss, I thought it would help." He turned to Dyson " What did I say wrong?"
Shepherd continued on, snapping a " What are you staring at?" at Rhys before wrapping his arm around Snowball's shoulder and herding him a little further from the rest. The two are quickly engaged in a brief conversation that ends with a nod from Snowball. Grinning, Shepherd turns back to the others, with a mocking tone." Sir, I suggest that rest of you continue on a you ordered. I'll take Snowball and follow that squad for a bit to see what their up to , then catch up with you shortly. Both of us a good trackers, so we'll find you in no time, and with the big guy's implants, he can use his psi abilities to contact you should we get in trouble."

Ellie shrugs as the Col. asks her if Shep is fine. When he says he is she relplys "Apparently Sir." As Mendez asks her about the missing soldiers she slightly jumps at the thought. "oh, yeah!" She says as she clearly forgot about them. She gets out to mini-pc and checks all three of them again.

Rhys takes point following the enemy column backtracking the trail (Hopefully it's obvious since I don't have the tracking skill). Keeping alert and his weapon at the ready, incase of trouble.

" Aww, isn't that nice, the Colonel thinks you're pretty." Shepherd sneers at Rhys as he passes, heading in the opposite direction with the battlecat in tow. He nods to the officers and Ellie, then stops Dyson and Mikey. " Mikey, you know the drill. It's up to you two to keep them from doing anything stupid while we're gone."
" Are you sure about this, Boss? You and I usually do these sidetrips." Mikey replies, with a hint of concern.
" Yeah, the big guy and I can handle this one. You better catch up to the others, I need to talk to Wong for a sec." Shepherd answers with a nod. As Mikey hustles to fall in behind the others, Shep tone turns seroius. " I owe you for back in the creek bed. This," he hands a slip of paper to Dyson," is a non-offical frequency you can reach me on if things should get hairy. Anyone intercepting a message shouldn't be able to tie it to Coalition troops, but don't give any identifiers if you have to call. We should catch up with you before nightfall, but stay on your toes." With that, he motions to Snowball, and the pair quickly dissappear into the bush in the same direction the patrol had gone.
You overhead a slight chuckle from Shepherd as the pair slip from view, followed by a low" That was too easy"

Dyson takes the paper, the barest trace of concern flitting across his face, though concealed by the deaths head of his helmet. He listens to the rest of what Shep has to say and and watches him leave, then pocketing the paper in one of his utility belt pouches.
Turning to the rest of the squad Dyson falls in next to Ellie unless told other wise.

Rhys continues on point downt the trail near the side that provides the most cover as he keeps very alert setting a good pace to cover the most ground so we can find out where these cretins came from.

The hours pass and the daylight begins to fade as evening sets in. Other than a the odd animal, nothing of interest crosses the squad's path since Shepherd and Snowball departed. Mikey seems to get more and more fidgety as time passes.
After a few more minutes of walking, a hint of smoke can be smelled on the breeze, coming in the same direction the path leads

Rhys motions a stop as he smells the smoke. He looks to the Col. and motions that he smells smoke and it seems to be coming from up ahead using hand signals. turning back he uses his Multi-optic eye using telescopic sight to see if he can see anything ahead. He also scans using thermo if nothing is picked up on that he switches to passive nightvision as it is getting dark. As always his rifle is at the ready.

Dyson lays a hand on Ellie's shoulder, trying to get her attention. When she looks at him he points at her then lightly taps his temple, then points to farther along the path.
OOC: If the hand signals weren't clear enough tell me and I will try again.
I don't mean to nit pick, but how can we smell smoke if we are in environmental armor?

Ellie replys with a shake of her head. Then she shrugs to him and realizes she needs to learn some of these abilities:) She continues following the rest of the squad till the make a decision on what they are doing.
