Rhys takes up his postition near the in the lead of the crossfire section and takes aim as he watches out for the trouble that Snowball smelled. Using his Multi-Optic eye as needed. Hiding in the brush unless there is a tree that will provide good cover then I will climb up and hide in that tree. and take up a good firing position keeping my eyes and all other senses open for trouble.

" Ambush? Are you crazy? Nobody fire, or we're all dead!" Shepherd announced with a loud whisper as several humanoid figures come into view. He pulls a pair of binoculars from his pack and studies the figures in the distance. Mikey shoots Shepherd an inquisitive glance, who replies with a barely noticable nod. " It's too soon. " He whispers to himself.
As the squad watches, twenty four figures appear at the edge of visual range and make their way on a parrallel path to the ambush line. Careful studying reveals a mix of mostly humans with a few dog boys and and a trio of brodkil, all outfitted in patchworked CS armor and carrying and assortment of mostly coalition weaponry.
One dog boy pauses , studying the terrain in the squads direction, but does not approach them as the wind blows in the wrong direction as it sniffs at the air before moving on with the rest of the platoon.
As the other group slips out of view, Shepherd is the first to his feet. " Allright folks, lets move. Rhys, you've got point. Where to Colonel?

to shep;"Follow that patrol sarge. from what they are wearing, they look like they are the bunch that has been hitting the cs patrols. they might take us to our missing troops."
to rhys "rhys keep us heading in the wind so those dog boys dont sniff us out. maybe we can take a stragler hostage and interrogate him. "

Rhys takes note of the wind and moves us along after the column of enemy troops keeping the downwind so as not to have the dogboys sniff us out. Moving as stealthily as possible and keeping an eye out for stragglers as the Col. ordered.

" Suggestions? Yeah I got one. Stop trying to get us killed." Shep glared at the Colonel, a complete lack of respect in his tone. " We follow them and we're dead, just like the others. I'm not out here to commit suicide."
He puts a hand on Snowball's shoulder to stop him as he started to follow Rhys. " Hold on, big guy." Shep stares into the faceshield of Mendez's helmet, his voice becoming dangerously loud. " Colonel, you have no idea what you've gotten into , have you? I've been out here alot more than you and I'm telling you, we don't want anything to do with that hunting party. Let them pass, then we should head the other way. They'll have pretty well cleared us a path for us

Gantry approaches the Colonel and quietly voices his opinion.
"Colonel, the sergeant is right, we just don't have the numbers or the weaponry to take on a group that size. If we follow them, its just a matter of time before they spot us."
"If you insist they be followed, I would recommend sending just one person, less chance of being seen that way and only one casualty."
"What is your primary mission sir? Shouldn't that come first?"

To everybody, I show the hold and take cover sign. And say in a just able to hear volume "Sergeant rhys hold."
Then to Gantry and Shep;" you two follow me, that's an order."
Once we are out of conversation range I say to sergeant shepherd in a low mean voice;" Is there a problem sarge? Disrespecting a ranking officer is a serious offense. Now i know you have experience in the crud, that's why i asked you for suggestions. about the ambush, i wasn't going to give the order to fire until i had gauged the strength of the enemy. so if you ever talk to me like that in front of the men again, i will relieve you of your duty, and give you a full reprimand, unless you want me to put rhys as ranking sergeant, you secure that crap. That crud may have flown with the late LT., but I'm not having it.... Back tracking the path they took is a good idea. but from now on, if you have an alternative course of action, say so, with respect to the rank."
to Gantry;" Our mission is two find three missing soldiers. one is wondering the wilderness, and 2 are being held captive. most likely by this bunch who just passed us. we also have an opportunity to find the base of operations for these scum bags and save soldiers lives. you are an officer. I'm sure you know protocol and procedure, any suggestions will be taken into account, and apreciated. sending someone by themselves is not an option at this point."

Rhys stops and listens to what the Col. is saying to shep and gantry (if that is possible with amped hearing) not making move as he watches the column continue to move counting how many ever of the enemy he can.

Dyson, still crouching in the bushes whispers to Ellie, who he ended up next to " It doesn't look good when your Commanding officers can't handle their problems in front of the me...ahh personnel" indicating the three leaving officers, then, If Mikey is a health distance away, he says out of the blue and in a low tone " Can you tell if Shep is hiding something, I'm not saying that you've used your abilities on another citizen intentionally, but can you just tell that he's hiding something. I'm no judge of people, never have been, And I can't put a finger on anything solid." Dyson leaves his last statement open ended trying to get Ellie to fill the uncomfortable silence.

Ellie gives Dyson a quizzical look "I'm sorry, but regulation on psionic abilities according to C.A. 4-23 paragraph 9 states that I'm not allowed to use my abilities on a superior officer unless it will benefit them. Psionic abilities are still feared in todays society, so I dont want to over step my boundries unless I have a damn good reason. Sorry." She gives him a sympathetic look and continues watching the sorroundings.

Shepherd stifled a laugh at the Colonel's attempts to threaten him. " Look, sir,I've been playing this game for nearly ten years now. I've been promoted and busted back down more times than I care to count. Why do you think they stuck me out in the middle of nowheres instead of sending me to Tolkeen?" He replied moclingly, shifting hie gaze to Gantry a few times. " If you want a greenhorn trying to do my job," he thumbed over his shoulder at Rhys," by all means, you're the commanding officer." A smug look crept onto his face as he folded his arms in front of him. " That'll give me time to size you all for bodybags."

Mikey loomed over Dyson and Ellie's conversation, watching the officer's exchange. He leaned forward, placing his hands on their shoulders and spoke in a low voice." You wanna believe Shep is hiding something, and be glad he doesn't share it with you. Wait till we bunk down for the night, and pray he keeps his distance, or his nightmares will keep you awake too. I don't know what kind of mess he got into before being stationed here, but guys that used to platoon with him down in Lone Star say he's changed, he used to be the life of the party before he was captured and held by raiders. They said he crawled home a month later and a psy shrink weht nuts trying to help clean his mind up. If I were you two, I'd just be glad he keeps it to himself, I know I am."

Ellie listens to what Mikey says and looks at Shep... "So he was captured.... I wonder what they did to him..." You can hear the sympathy in her voice. Ellie knowing something must be done for this argument to end walks of the officers. Waiting for her turn she listens to has been said. "Excuse me Sirs, but I'm sure there is a better time and place for this converstation." Ellie looks to Shep "Sir, how is your head feeling? Do you require anymore of my assistance?" She stands there waiting for their replys and orders

to shep;"just keep it in check sarge, thats an order. now let get moving before there trail gets cold. we are going to back track the raiding parties foot steps. maybe we can get to there point of origin. sarge you take point and move out."

to ellie;" are you sure, you patched his head up?" he motions to sargeant shep then chukles lighty and pats ellie on the shoulder.
