MARCH 3, 1923
CENTRAL CITY, KANSAS
(Douglas Avery)
Your back aches as you pull yourself off the chair. Sleeping in the office has begun to become a bad habit, and you're certainly feeling it as you wake up and make a half-hearted effort to clean the place before opening.
(Scarecrow)
You struggle to try and start sleeping. Another long night on the hunt of...well, you're not sure. You've just been tracking an unsual feeling in your guts for the last three days, and each time you followed it it lead you to a chinatown murder. The cops are less than useless in this situation; they actively do not care what happens to these people. But you can sense that something...something other is stalking these people. That said, you need to rest and recharge, something that is difficult with the sun rising through your window...
(Dark Rider)
The second most satisfying thing about punching a Klansman is the crack their jaws make when you break them. The most satisfying thing is the THUMP they make when they hit the ground. The third one down and the others fleeing, you turn to the cage in the old wine cellar. The Negro farming family they had rustled up - a beaten man in his 40s, his wife, and 3 small children, are penned up like animals. They look at you with a mixture of elation and intimidation, not sure what to make of you.
(Vivian)
You are up early, working on fixing your outfit (a close call with a rum-runner's switchblade tore up your sleeve). Looking at your supplies, you realize you're going to need to get into the workshop with Lex today if you're going to be ready for another night. That means talking to your mother about getting work in at the bakery. Which she's not happy about. Because she would rather you spend the time looking for a potential suitor.
(Lex)
You finish your morning exercise routine and get your breakfast ready for quick consumption before you open up the Bakery. You know to expect it will be a long day, leading to an even longer night as Vivian clearly wants to take another run at some of this latest gang, so you think it only best to get in a good meal while you can.

Dark Rider drops to one knee and smiles at the kids.
"Don't worry, I'll have you outta this in a jiffy," he tells them. He searches the two unconscious Klansmen for the key to the cage.
"I could smash the lock and get you out," he tells the family in the cage, "but I still got use for that cage, and I forgot to bring a spare padlock. Stupid of me, innit?" He turns around and winks at them. "Won't be more than a minute, I promise."

Lex thumped down the stairs from the his second floor apartment and turned the key in the lock to let himself in. Already the bakey was starting to smell delicious from his sister's early start. " Morning" he called out as he locked the door behind him. Slipping on an apron as he stepped back into the back room, he filled the kettle and added a couple teabags before setting it atop the heavy cookstove before setting out at his daily tasks, which usually included all the heavier tasks like lifting flour sacks. His favorite chore though was baking bread. His late start was on purpose, so they had fresh bread late in the day for the after work crowd as well in the morning, plus it allowed him his late nights to himself.

Vivian sighs to herself realizing she had to go to the workshop. She wasn't looking forward to the conversation with her mother. All her mother cared about was having Vivian getting married and have babies. It wasn't that Vivian didn't want those things, she just didn't want that to be her entire reason for living.
Realizing she couldn't put it off forever, Vivian heads downstairs and finds her mother. Once she does, she says politely, "Mother, I need to go down to the bakery. Mr Gunnar asked me to help out as they are very busy." Vivian then braces herself for her mother's reaction.

(Dark Rider)
A few minutes of searching produces a heavy iron ring with several keys from under the robes of a clansman. Turning over the robe, you notice the gleam of a golden sherrif's badge.
(Lex)
You arrive at the bakery, and begin preparing. Your sister is already cleaning up the storefront. "Good morning. We have to have the order for the Porkizeni wedding ready today."
(Vivian)
Esther Masters was a wasp-waisted woman standing just slightly over five feet. She dressed conservatively, as if ready to entertain guests, despite the fact that it was barely past 7 AM. Her straight black hair had started to develop a few streaks of silver, that she tried to keep hidden under increasingly larger bonnets. She looked over Vivian. "I see. I don't understand what you see in him, but I do support some charity work, so long as it doesn't interfere with your lesson plans for the afternoon. Oh, and I have several new letters that I arranged to be sent to you from interested parties. I have a lawyer from Topeka, a playwright from Wichita, and that nice Mr. Thompson? The Merchant from Alexandria? Do have a look, dear."
(Rex Colt)
Completing your morning meditations, you swing open the shutters to let the bright sunlight into your penthouse hotel room. With a scenic view of Central city spread out before you, you feel more than ready for the day ahead; locating a new base of operations for your future endeveavors, a new home, and perhaps, if you have time, an assessment of local criminal activity.

The Dark Rider nods and grins to himself. So the rumors were true. He walks back to the cage and tries the keys until he finds the one that fits. He unlocks and opens the door.
"Come on out, folks, don't be shy." He looks back to the still unconscious Klansmen.
I didn't think I hit them that hard, he thinks. But I'm not complaining.
Ma'am, I'd appreciate it if you'd step outside for a minute. Nothing to worry about, but I don't want to offend your sensibilities -- or those of your children." Looking at the husband, he adds, "I could use a hand, it'll get things done in half the time. But if you'd rather take your family and go, I'll understand."

Stretches, arms to the ceiling, yawns, begins to prepare for the day, a quick breakfast, credentials, shower and shave, before heading out to find a new place to set down roots.

Shoving papers aside, Avery goes about cleaning off his desk before stopping with a sigh. Moving through his office, he makes his way to a window and opens it to let in some fresh air.
Staring out at the people below, he rubs his eyes with a hand before heading down to get a daily paper.

Caleb muses to himself that if he doesn't get any sleep he's not going to be of much use in getting back out there on the streets again tonight. Of course that doesn't make grappling with insomnia any easier.
With a sigh he'll get out of bed from tossing and turning, put on a robe, and head into the kitchen to make some warm milk and honey. Hardly manly, but that's what his mother always gave him when he had trouble sleeping. The thought makes him a bit sad as he prepares it, and barring any other events he drinks it and then heads back to bed to try and get at least four hours sleep.

"Okay." Lex nodded," That shouldn't be too bad. I'll get started on mixing the batter." He wasn't much of a cook, but he could follow the written directions his father and mother had brought from the homeland. " Too bad the kids aren't old enough to put to work. Be easier if you had one of them to put at the counter." He smirked.

(Dark Rider)
"No Mister, I reckon you did your part, let me at least pitch in. what do you need?"
(Scarecrow)
You manage to get in those few hours of rest, only to wake up feeling famished and weak.
(Lex, Rex, and Douglas Avery)
From their different vantage points (Rex is walking down the street and Avery from his office window), see a strange light blue car race down the street - it's unlike other cars -with a long rounded front free of the sharp edges you've seen on most vehicles. You see three police vehicles chasing after it, only for the blue car, with its black windows conealing the passengers, extrude a slick of oil, causing the first car to careen into a lamp post. The second car increases speed to catch up, but the rear bumper of the criminal vehicle flips up, and a spray of high velocity glass shatters the windshield and shreds the police cars tires. A uniformed officer in the third car fires a shot from his service revolver at the fleeing vehicle, which deflects off the back hood. The passenger side window rolls down, and a lit stick of dynamite sails through the air attached to an arrow, blowing up the last police car, and sending the firing policeman sailing through the air.
Lex can hear the screams of people on the street from inside the bakery.

Surprised that her mother hadn't put up a fuss, Vivian decides to not push her luck as she nods, "Of course, mother. I'll be back in time for my lessons." Vivian then quickly grabs her things and heads to the bakery before her mother could change her mind.

"Help me strip 'em naked," the Rider says. He walks to the Sheriff's unconscious form and begins to take off the man's clothes. "When we're done, we lock 'em into that cage."
He nods at the black man's wife.
"That's why I'd like you to leave the room, Ma'am. I don't think they got anything you ain't seen yet, but I'd still rather spare your sensibilities. 'Sides, I'd appreciate it if you could keep a lookout, in case these fellahs's friends come back. Unlikely as that might be."

Lex heard the commotion and quickly stepped out of the kitchen. His first instinct was to go for a weapon, but his sister didn't know he had or used them, and he didn't want to upset or involve her in anything." Sis, you stay in the back for now. I'm gonna take a look." He said, hanging up his apron. " Whatever it is, it doesn't sound good."

Quickly reacting, Avery runs out his office and makes his way down to the street. There he makes a mental note of the direction the blue vehicle flees.
At that point he makes his way to the first cop car to check on it's occupants to offer any help.
"I'm here to help, is everyone alright?"
If they're in good condition, he'll make his way to the next car with the same goal until he's checked on all three cars.
