no one seemed to notice Long slip up the stairs. When he did reach the main floor, he could hear a light wrapping at the kitchen door window. With the curtains drawn, Long couldn't tell who was there.

Long finds a window where he would be able to take a peek at the knocker without being observed himself.

From the kitchen, Long could lean over the sink and peek out around the edge of the curtain. Outside he could see a man in a suit, probably close to his own age. the man had a briefcase in hand. In front of the place sat a well used sedan.

Long backs away from the window and stands in the middle of the kitchen facing the door. He hopes the guy just goes away, but he is ready for a fight if the guy tries to break in.

The guy at the door knocked again, and then there was silence as the shadow moved away.

Long waits for a little bit to make sure the guy does not come back. Once he hears the guy get in his car he will go back to the window to peek and make sure he leaves.
