Mary Ellen shrugs at Edeline. She didn't really know what she was comparing the farm too and how she seemed to know that the farm was more peaceful. 'Just one more mystery to add to the pile, I guess' she thinks to herself.
As she hears the bell ring, she can't help but grin as Edeline pulls her toward the house, hoping she'd get a chance to look through the books in the study after lunch to get some reading done. (tag)

Lunch was a very busy event, with more than 30 people passing through, getting soup, bread and cheese. Edeline got trapped into helping serve food, but Mary-Ellen was only allowed to sit and eat.
After lunch, Edeline got ushered out to help in the field, and Mary-ellen was left to her own devices. The "library" was mostly a collection of logs, yearbooks, photoalbums, etc. Actual books included texts on farming sciences, animal husbandry, etc. A few on herbalism Golthreian history, and such. One wall was taken up with fictional novels and old newspapers. The majority were paper, but some were holobooks.

After eating lunch, and offering to help clean up the dishes (though she was probably told to go and rest) Mary Ellen looks through the old newspapers and looks at some of the books, looking for ones about the history of the city of Golthreia itself, not really sure why she was so curious about it. 'Maybe I lived there' she thinks to herself as she looks through the old books. (tag)

Mary-Ellen's perusal indicated many interesting facts about Golthreia:
It is a millenias-old community, started by the five Atleantean clans: Xomo, Ioratates, Fayde, {two others that the GM can't offhand remember, but were never really pertenant to the story anyways}. The city started as five huge stone towers (these clans were mystical stone-workers) surrounding a central pyramid. As the communities around the four towers grew, they eventually merged into one city. Then, since farmland is scare on the Golthreian floating island, the city's last ruling clan, the Iorates clan, the last ruling clan of the city built the levels. History is boring, I know... Well, reading it, anyways... The levels were added after many other super-large buildings like the Golth Spire (see Figure 14.2) were made, and built making for interesting planning... The city's levels are said to be run and sustained by magic, reducing the needs for pillars supports, which leads to an interersting discourse on the interplay of tortional stress and... However, the construction of the floors means the one pyramid was made off-limits. One book suggests that a second pyramid was built somwhere at Land's End, then lost at Land's End somewhere. About a hundred years after the last king left the city, and created the Decree Slayers, magic waned on Shards and... the... Wake up, child! Wake up and become once again who you are. Blue flash! Mary-Ellen wakes up to see Edeline nudging her arm.
"Oh, good, you're awake. Are you OK? It looked like a bad dream." Says Edeline. "Momma's gonna to get you some water. She thinks I tired you out too much, but I said it was cause you're reading adult books. They're so boring. But, are you OK? Was it a bad dream?"

Mary Ellen smiles weakly at Edeline. "I'm not sure, I don't really remember it. Why did you think it looked like a bad dream? Was I saying something in my sleep?" Closing the book she'd been reading, she nods "Yeah, sometimes reading adult books can be boring. I should let your mom know that I'm ok." Mary Ellen gets up and stretches a bit before going to find Dora. (tag)

"No, you just looked like you were unhappy or scared or something. Oh! I like this book!" Edeline saysm, pulling out the one detailing Kingh Ienni. It's got great pictures and neat stories."
Dora, however, pulls the book from Edeline's hand, to much vocal objection. "And they are far too adult, for you, the lot of it. Now, get to your chores, sweetiepie."
Looking anything but sweet, Edeline tromped out of the room into the hall and eventually outside.
Handing Mary-Ellen the water, Dora picks up a few of the books. "I very nearly called the doctor about you, the way you looked." She says, calmly. Thumbing the spine of one of the history books, she asks concernedly, "Did any of it feel familiar? What was the dream about?"

Mary Ellen smiles weakly as she replies "I don't think it did." Picking up the book Edeline has been looking at about this King Ienni guy, she adds "I don't really remember. There was just this voice telling me to wake up and become who I used to be, whatever that means." Sighing, she says "I had the dream before too. Oh and there was a blue flash just before I woke up. I wish I knew what it meant. " (tag)

Dora smiled motheringly. "It's probably just the brain getting the rest of you back in gear." She said. "It'll be OK. Just remember not to rush it."
As the books start to find their homes, Dora asks, "So, did you find a place where you could be put to work? It might just be slinging hay, but it'll be a start. We pay our workers, of course, but if you're going to stay on the farm - which is good for you anways - then you ought to work."

Mary Ellen nods at Dora "I have no problem with slinging hay. I want to help out since you've been so nice taking care of me while I was hurt. it was kind of weird... when Edeline showed me the horses, at first they got all skittish, but then it seemed like Goodwyn and Bethany bowed to me when Edeline brought them out on their own." Shrugging, she adds "Maybe they were just nervous around a stranger, but then realized I wasn't a bad person. I don't know a lot about horses." Smiling weakly she says "I know I shouldn't rush it. It's just weird not knowing who I am or if I have a family that's out there who's all worried because they don't know where I am." (tag)

Dora pulled Mary-Ellen into a hug. "It's OK. Dear. They're looking for you, I promise it." She says calmly. "We're just keeping you safe in one place until they find you. OK?"

Mary Ellen returns the hug with a small smile, finding it to be reassuring. "Ok." she replies with the trust of a child. After a minute, she pulls back and says "I do like it here. I told Edeline that I found it peaceful." (tag)

"Peaceful? My dear, you must have taken a knock." Says Dora. "Well, we'll set you up with the bailers in a couple of days. But, you're looking tired so I'll put you up in your room to have a nap."

Mary Ellen chuckles weakly and says "Yeah, I guess I did." She starts to protest about not being tired, but realizes that Dora would probably just ignore her protests, so she follows Dora to her room and lays down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling trying to ignore the hundred questions going through her head about who she is and where she's from. Eventually, night fell, and Mary-Ellen fell asleep. It was a fitful sleep... No beckoning voice, this time, though there seemed to be a sense of urgency. Suddenly, Mary-Ellen opened her eyes, and a large form stood in her room, dark, silent... human (no armour, barely clothed). As Mary-Ellen blinked, she heard the voice as the man stood silent. "You are found and protected." In a second blink and he was gone. Then at the third, there was a tympanic chorusy crash of sound, and Mary-Ellen was staring at the sunbeam in her eyes as the rooster crowed. (No, I did not watch Pirates of the Carribean for the umpteenth time, last night.)
There was no sign of the man, there.

Mary Ellen blinks as she remembers the dream from the night before. Who was that guy who'd been in her room? If he'd meant what he'd said, it must mean that someone was looking for her and would probably be coming for her soon. She couldn't help but feel a little nervous as she wonders who it was that was going to be showing up at Dora's doorstep. Getting out of bed, she decides to get Dora alone and tell her about what had happened, so it wasn't a complete surprise if someone did show up. As she gets dressed, she wonders who she was that was so important that required protection, and what she needed to be protected from. 'Maybe it was the person who hurt me in the first place.' she thinks to herself as she heads to the bathroom. (tag)
