Ch 4. Landfall

Autumn stirs finally after regaining her energies and looks around. Realizing she is not where her dream alluded too she gets up and makes her way outside to relieve herself and maybe enjoy a bit of the rain as well.

Well I guess I am still stuck in this reality. I wish I was not, I mean a lab or hospital would be so much more my speed. Alas, this is my punishment.[/color]

After her thought is when she spots Richardson and moves off a little deeper so as to have some privacy.

[Dome]

Richardson notices when Autumn heads out, probably to do the same thing he just did out there. He follows her out but remains on the porch with his rifle at the ready while she goes off a ways to handle things. While noting her direction he doesn't follow, or spend his time looking that way specifically, instead he sweeps the area until she returns. When he sees her coming back he turns so that he is looking in another direction while keeping her in his periphery. She would notice the serious look of a soldier on his face once he turned towards her.

[dakota]

"Looks like some of the troops are getting ansty to head out." Abe said as Autumn and Richardson slipped out. He looked at Tori," Been here nearly four years, so I know my way around a little bit. Not much of a fisherman, prefer hunting. Your best bet is to get your hands on a couple air boats. Not sure where the closest place to get some would be though, ." He chuckled, " Unless you want to raid some of the slaver camps. They all use them."

"captain," Shep managed to say it llike it was awkward for him, " Odds are it'll rain for another day or so. Suggest we move on before that"



Outside, As Autumn was attending to her 'persoal needs' , not to far away came a deep and throaty animal noise. It sounded much larger than the raptors.

[Mierin]

Sam nods at Shep and says "I agree that we should get going shortly." She is quiet for a minute, and says "I have to admit I'm not all that thrilled with the idea of raiding a slaver camp, so let's see if we can't find a way to get what we need and leave that as a last resort." Over the radio, Sam calls Autumn and Richardson "We're heading out."

[Renekin Skywalker]

Socrates watched the pair outside, with Autumn on her own. Some humans don't learn. He thinks to himself. "Sam." He says out loud. "You may want to remind them about being alone, like with last night."

[Tori]

"Aww, I hunt too. Texas white tail are my thing, 'specially with my bow. Janxi she's the..."

Tori's little ears perked, and trained on the sound of the roar like a homing signal. Her head went to full alert posture and she turned towards the roar.

"Janxi! Trouble! Daisy and Enos are gonna need some cover." Tori started slapping on the rest of her armour and readied her rifle. She pulled her helmet on and readied herself to battle more dinos.

"Six, Shep? You wanna tell the honeymooners to get in here doubletime. There's somethin' bad out there." She expected this from Autumn, but hoped Richardson knew better and she would not find them out in some kind of tryst when she got her armor on. She mumbled softly to herself, as if some kind of mantra to stay calm. It was more mechanical, and her tail began to swish from what was almost fear.

Richardson chirps his comms, he whispers, "I'm on the porch keeping eyes out. I heard something, scanning for hostiles now." He pauses as he sweeps his vision out, he says into the comms again, "doctor, best finish up and get back here. Scorates, bring me my rail please."

Anyone who went outside would see Richardson on the porch (front step, whatever the house has) in a crouched position sweeping the front area through the scope on his rifle.

Autumn nearly jumps after hearing that but does as ordered and rushes back to the porch so she can use the rain there to clean herself up. "You could of warned me that you were keeping an eye out and not scare a girl like that while I am taking care of the biological functions. Yeesh!"

[Dome]

While still looking through his scope not seeing anything Richardson says, "sorry Doctor, just covering your six. Last thing you want to happen is to be out there and have everyone else inside eating talking and playing chess."

After a pause he adds, "if your worried, I wasn't watching you and I didn't see a thing. Sounds like we should get in and grab our gear, time to go," he finishes while still looking out at the jungle, not once turning to look at her.

[Renekin Skywalker]

Socrates appears with the rail-gun. "This is not the time to complain about a lack of privacy." He says, calmly handing the rifle to Richardson. "I would have thought you both had the sense to learn from last night's lesson and no go alone." He wasn't ready for combat, but looking over the terrain. If something was going to hunt them, it might as well be on his team's terms.

[Dome]

"If she were alone, I wouldn't be here with my gun drawn trying to find the source of that sound would I Soc? I saw her come out, I followed to give cover, tell me I was wrong," Richardson says his voice calm with only a hint of annoyance.

[Janxi]

Janxi heard the sound, and Tori's advice. She was in full battle dress already, and readied her rifle for shooting. The utility cap on her head came off in exchange for her helmet. Janxi followed Socrates out, and stepped away from the door a few steps. If there was something bad out there, she didn't want Autumn to be caught in a crossfire.

"Santiago, pull up your drawers and back up towards the house slowly. Predators will spring if you sprint, so shut up and walk in slow. Don't turn your back to it. I'll try to get his attention. You're gonna be okay." She looked to Socrates and Richardson, and told them about where the sound came from.

"Anything comes out of there towards me or Autumn, light it the fox up." She switched on her thermals and scanned the ground near Autumn for tracks.

Given a choice between an easy meal or facing a rival, most predators prefer to defend their turf. She issued a challenge, hoping to draw the monster's attention away from Autumn. She opened her mouth wide and issued a huge lion roar, as if to warn other prides from her turf. Her helmet did nothing to contain it.


"RRrrrrrrrrrraaaawwwwrrrrrrrrrrr!"

"You went out on your own, earlier. And you did not stay with her. A pair, closer together, is less of a target for animals. Not a pair where one is covering the other" Socrates answers, clamly. His rifle was unslung and readied in the direction Janxi indicated. "And the complaint rests with Autumn as well, not just you. So stop acting like a wounded child and get yourself ready."

[Mierin]

Sam sighs to herself as she hears the squabbling over the radio and responds, "Focus, people! Santiago, Richardson, get back here and be careful! Santiago, don't leave the group without letting us know where you are going, end of story. Everyone else, keep a look out for what's out there."

Grabbing her rifle, Sam moves so she can try to locate signs of any movement from something that might be about to attack.

[Dome]

Richardson slowly raises to his feet and meets Socrates eyes, the anger glinting in the corner of his eyes. He keys his radio and says, "On our way sir, we are on the porch," never taking his eyes from Socrates.

He cuts off his radio and makes sure to turn it off. "Thank you so much for taking the time to impart some of your wisdom on me Corporal Socrates. The next time I need to piss I'll make sure you come with me and stand right within arms reach. Hey you think if I was standing next to the Captain when the raptor attacked I would have been able to hit it with my rail? I guess it doesn't matter now. If I may be excused now Corporal Socrates, the Captain says I should get inside and get ready to go," Richardson says, the condescension dripping from his voice.

He turns away and walks back inside leaving Socrates there, not turning back even if he is addressed. If grabbed he yanks his arm free. He grabs his gear and then turns to the Captain, "I'm ready Captain. What are your orders?"
