" Sin paid me a mint to take care of some old guy named Bradley." He managed as Bucky got to his feet and searched Paladin, remove a few items, but nothing of major consequences. As he released his cybernetic arm's grip and replaced it, Paladin relexed a bit. " She gave me an address. When the other guy picked him up before I was ready, I followed them here. " He looked at Bucky and Rachel, her now in his arms," If I had known, I never would have waited for him to get back."

"Well, you're not going to cash that check, Paladin. Instead I'm going to offer you a new deal. Tell me where Sin is, and I won't have these two make you pay for your home invasion." Cap gives him an icy stare.

"I don't know. " Paladin squirmed under the wieght on his neck. " She showed up out of nowheres, and no one knows where I'm holed up. she gave me half up front and said someone would be back so I could collect the rest. Then she was gone just as quick."
" I don't want his money Cap." Bucky said coldly," I want his blood for what he's done to Rachel."
" We were dating" Paladin squirmed more.
" And you drugged me." Rachel snapped, Bucky having to restrain her. " I should gut you like a fish."

"You better give us something, Mercenary. Or this night will not end well for you." with one hand he heaves the man up, off his feet and into the air. "People sometimes forget that I was a soldier. I try very hard not to kill. I think it's wasteful, and often unnecessary. I've seen enough death. But you...." He is now face to to face with Paladin. "...you did something horrible. To someone I care a great deal about. And I'm not disposed towards mercy. So think quickly, or else." Rachel and Bucky will notice that small quiver of genuine anger and hatred - something they know Steve rarely ever shows in uniform.

"All right. All right." Paladin said, his hands up in a surrendering motion. " I'll tell you what I know. Sin showed up with some other woman dressed in green out of nowheres and offered me a contract on old Bradley. She said it wasn't so much to take him out, but to take you out of the picture. They didn't even care if I killed him or not, just as long as you were kept busy, although there was a bonus in it for me to kill the old fart." He looked at Bucky and Rachel as he led her out of the room. " I had no idea they were involved with this, or I would have asked for alot more cash and some help. I swear that's all I know."
Bucky came back in the room in time to hear the end. " Good. Cap, you want to wait outside. I don't have the same reservations about killing a piece of trash like this that you do."

Steve doesn't take his eyes of Paladin. "No. You're not. You're suiting up and we're going with our good mercenary friend to pick up the other half of his payment and get Sin. Consider it an order, soldier."

" We're doing what?" Bucky's reply was pure outrage.
Paladin wasn't much better. " Hello? And how do you intend to do that? I have no way to contact them"

"Oh, I'm sorry, Buck. I figured I didn't have to explain guerrilla combat tactics to you." Captain America answered his friend. "We capture the people actually after us, then we use their resources to get what you want. Or," He turns to him. "are you not interested in winning your own war? I could be mistaken, after all, I'm a little out of time, again, and people can change."
He looks back to Paladin. "You're a clever man, Paladin, but just in case you're wondering, only three possibilities exist for you right now. One, you hope and pray that your would-be employer doesn't decide to ditch you and actually comes to you so we can handle this. Two, you, an experienced mercenary who knows how unreliable clients can be, figure out a very cunning way to get in touch with his contacts so he's not screwed out of his money. Or three, which is...well...." He gestures his head back to the enraged Bucky. "...awkward and unpleasant. Do we understand each other?" Steve's impossibly blue eyes seem to cut through Paladin's eyes right into him.

Bucky took the chastising without saying a word, but he was clearly not happy. " Some things never change." He said as he turned back towards the other room. Steve could overhear his friend talking to Rachel, but their conversation was hushed enough that he couldn't make it out.
Paladin looked at Steve as if unconvinced, then turned to see James had returned, wearing his working clothes and a dour expression. " Fine, I'll take you but," he pointed at Bucky," you have to protect me from him."
" He's good, but not that good." Bucky replied, opening the weapon locker and began equipping himself deliberately so Paladin could see every weapon the Winter Soldier carried.

"If it pays off, then I'll see if I can put his boast to the test." Steve responds then looking at Bucky's weapons locker. "Take your shield Buck. Never know when it's going to come in handy."

Bucky stopped, a wicked looking assault rifle in his hands. He gave Cap a 'you're kidding' look before groaning and exchanging the weapon for the shield once he moved a few things aside. He peeled the picture from it and affixed it to the locker door. " I'd be better off with the SKS. This thing is used for a little friendly target competition with Hawkeye over a couple beers." He slid his arm through the strap. " Fine, lets go."

"He ever get you to play the bounce-back game with it?" Cap asks as he puts Paladin down. "Alright, lead the way."

" So it's an old game, is it?" James asked, with a trace of a smirk. " I figured as much by the way he plays."
Paladin led the pair through the back alleys away from patrols to what was once a barber shop nearly a half hour's walk from the Barnes' home. " In here . Sin somehow knew I was hiding out here."

"Nice place." Captain America looks around, knowing full well that more than a few barbershops had been converted to SHIELD safehouses during his day.

Bucky looked around as well, but said nothing, preferring to brood.
" Wait a minute, this isn't right." Paladin said as he picked up a paper and read it...
Consider this payment in full[/color]
Next thing Cap knew was Bucky tackling him, knocking him out the door.
"Bomb!"was the last thing he heard before the fireball engulfed the place, and his friend knocked him clear.
Inside he could hear the less fortunate Paladin's cries.
