Ch. 56 Track Down (all)

[dakota]

"Nothing so crazy, kiddo." Sierra's mom replied. " They're having a fundraiser for a local boy and guess who got the bright idea we could help out. I'll get ahold of them and send them to pick up... who do I tell them it is, sweetheart?"

Arc nods, " That'll work." His gruff exterior seemed to soften.

Beth looked at Dmitri, then Tom in confusion. she paced him as they headed back outside to where Ryne and Deci had been seen

"Those can come in handy. "Ryne nodded. " Not sure how I'd help you develop them, but I can figure something out. As a shadow from above caught his attention, Ryne looked up to see Tom and Beth. " Want some slush? It's pretty good."

Dylin was certainly caught offguard," Alice? Where did you get a notion like that? Did...," he paused, taking a long drink of his water, " Yes, I put him to sleep, but I'd rather not discuss that." He was obviously trying to duck the subject.

"It is really good actually if you wish to join us. I would make more chairs but I doubt anyone would want to sit on one. But what I can do is grab some more glasses if you need them." With that she heads into the house and scans quickly for more glasses and some straws. Returning with both for those that want some of the mix.

Tom raises an eyebrow. "No. Thanks Ryne. Ryne, this is Beth, she was the one we pulled away from Raggy. She's got questions about this whole operation and I've been told you're the best guy to explain them."

' we need them to pick up Ariel and her mom. pack light i guess. overnighter with 2 changes of clothes and i'll figure out from there. thanks mom, you're a life saver. call me back when you can get a solid time, thanks .. oh right number is *gives number* of her cell. k, i will call you back later tonight, K will ensure that. yes, i'll answer questions then'

*she really hopes her mom wont say anything embarassing now while saying goodbye. she simply states to Kristian, with mouthpiece covered for privacy 'guess its shrimp on the barbie tonight ... you know you're gonna get grilled by her. it's a mom thing i guess'

*looks at Arc. 'k. i'm getting the wheels in motion to get them out without suspicion. trust me, 'family' is important to me and those i grew up with. someone claims 'family' they'll bend over backwards to keep them safe and hidden. hope your daughter likes circuses .. '

'please don't betray my trust with them, that's all. now can you give me answers to my questions?'

Alice is gentle but firm as she won't let Dylin duck the question, saying "Jason had thought I was the one to put him to sleep and then told me you didn't give him anything to do it. He said for once he didn't have nightmares when he was asleep, which he liked." Alice looks honestly confused as she asks "Why would you hide it?"

[dakota]

" I can handle that." Kristian grinned. " If I can handle the blood and guts of being a paramedic, I can take mom questions."

Mom answered," Okay sweetie. We'll take care of things. I'll talk to you later. You can tell me all about your boyhunting and how it's going."

Ryne sighed, then sat up. " Sure, I guess so. What questions?"

Beth looked at Ryne and Deci," What is this place, and who or what exactly are you people?"

Ryne smirked," No really, don't pull any punches this time. This just our home, Miss Gromly, provided by the goverment to give us safe haven. Each of us, as you've probably figured out, have unique skills we bring to the table. Together, we form a special unit meant to deal with other more than normal individuals. Does that help?"

Beth raised her brow, "So, you are mutant cops? Is that it?"

Ryne winced," No, but I guess there are similarities. We try help the authorities for the most part, but we don't work directly together most of the time. Alot of the time, the threats we face the rest of the city doesn't even knows exist." He looked at Tom and Deci," does that make sense to you?"

MacCoulter laughed and shook his head," I've been doing this for twenty seven years, and you and Jason are the ones that figure it out. Yes Alice, I am a meta as well, but no wheres near as powerful as any of you. I merely have a few psychic abilities that assist me when preforming surgery. I also have some sort of sheilding that lets me hide what I am. "

Deci seeing that this person is new scoops up a glass of her home made slurpees and puts a straw in it. "Well seeing it is off the record you might as well relax." She hands her the glass. "They are really good and I made them myself. If it helps so long as you do not leave my presence it will be be kept perfect condition."

Even though Tom said no she gets him one as well and puts it down should he decide to take it. She then goes back to sipping hers.

"Sounds about as sensible as anything else." Tom responds.

[dakota]

Ryne looked at Tom," You make it sound like you don't beleive me, Tom."

Beth hesitated, glanced at Tom and then accepted the drink. "Thank you. Who would have thought I would go from being a hostage to this in a matter of hours?"

"yeah, I'm still not sure how any of this is real Ryne. Sorry if I'm still adjusting." He looks at Beth. "And I'm still trying to figure out how you got taken hostage."

[sasqaricious]

"That is OK. I went from girl just returning to home from being afar to this now." She takes another sip of her drink. "That is not to say it has not been interesting to say the least. I would offer to make you a seat but I imagine you would not like it as they are really cold. Well of course they are cold. They are made of ice!" She gives a grin to this person before her that Tom introduced Ryne to but not her at the moment. Figuring it slipped his mind.

[Mierin]

Alice smiles weakly, "It was more dumb luck than anything that Jason mentioned that he thought I put him to sleep, which confused me." Realizing he hadn't answered her question, she asks again, "Why do you hide what you can do?"

'ok mom. thanks again. call you later, bye' *she's pink as she hangs up, and chooses to take a sip now that its cooled off a little.

'best i can do on short notice. but my type are trustworthy. hope that's enough. oh one more question as well. why did you walk towards me and then away at the last second? that made me think after, that there was a trap at work ... cause i took the bait and followed'

"Why? Because it makes things much simpler when dealing with people in Washington without any prejudice toward metas coming into play." Dylin replied. " My job can be difficult enough without that. Luckily, even Sierra it seems can't detect me and if you try to get into my head with your telepathy, it will kick you out, so my secret is safe." He looked at Alice to confrm his statement.

"That old russian guy was waiting for me when we reached the pier. " Beth replied. "My uncle had to go to the office, so I told him I'd take a cab instead of waiting for him, but I never made it when he grabbed me. He never told me why."

Ryne merely looked at Tom, and then Beth," Sounds like you were bait for us, but that doesn't make any sense. I mean you two only met on the boat, right?"

Beth nodded, " Yes, but Tom did ask me to look up some information for him." She looked at Deci and shook her head," No thank you. Way too cold for me."

" What information?" Ryne looked at Tom, awaiting an answer.

"It'll work." Arc replied with a nod. " I didn't even notice the pair of you. I recognized the surveillance team waiting for me and had to lure them away from open view of the public. I didn't want to end up on the 7 o'clock news

"On the mayor. I was hoping we'd get some leads on him that way." Tom responded before giving Beth a look. "and I'm sorry if that's the reason all this happened to you."
