Ch 11: Not all Mad Scientists wear labcoats (3)

Sarah and Coop...

Are finding their positions among the other dozen mages and nearly 100 armed and armoured military men. Some looked like they recognized Coop and Eleutheroi from the hotel incident.

Pretty soon, they see portals opening around the pyramid. "It's time." Eleutheroi said, over the comm. "Let's rock this place."

Bianca...

Even while they are working in the room, she can feel the tingle of the use of magic.

"It has begun." the Shissthorn. "We should hasten."

[dakota]

Coop looked at Sarah, his weapon in hand. " any idea how we can tell the professor. Odds are he's transformed into something inhuman."

[albatross]

Bianca quickly decides to active the ward from evil over the door, reasoning that she can always make another one if someone disturbs it on the way in. Or dispell it if someone needed to get out. She doesn't want to be caught off guard.

[Mierin]

Sarah looks thoughtful as she considers Coop's question. She asks out loud "Would his aura be the same, even if he has transformed? That might be one way we can find him." Sarah looks at Tobrias for confirmation.

[dakota]

Coop looked at Sarah, then turned towards the others, then looked back to her with a brow raised in curiousity," You can do that?"

Tobrias looked at the two as he moved into a bracing position with some troops. "Only if he asks." He says.

At this point, Sarah and Coop start to feel a surge of energy. The world was coming into focus, slowing down. They could sense the beings that were arriving through the rift, each as foreigners. They could hear the magic and weapons fire passing through the air, as their own poeple, the City's residents, defended the pyramid.

They had a control of magic energies they didn't know they had. They had a clarity from something like a combat computer.

The city wants them to succeed.

And a good thing, too.

Inside, the pyramid shook as something hit the stone, far on the outside. "The battle is joined." The dragon said.

Somehow, though, Bianca alread knew that. The could feel everything outside, and inside, like she was connected to it. Most of all, she could feel two large beacons of light, and one of darkness come out of what she knew was a rift.

"We must remain focused, Bianca." the Dragon said, his power a burning flame next to her. He handed her the materials she needed. "A shield rune. We shall both work on it."

Both (Bianca is aware of this, even if only as a sensation)

Right in front of Sarah and Coop stood something they knew was Montrose... A being of ungodly power and darkness. Whatever was the kindly professor was consumed by jealousy, greed, and a lust for power and to see the greatest expirement carried through.

Outisde
Visually, Montrose had become the monster they saw in his soul. His skin was armoured in scales, his eyes glowed angrily, in a red that unnerved all who saw it. His clawed fingers were raising to cast a spell. "A city of ages with only two defenders." He cooed, his voice grating. "Well, then the city shall be a witness to the true use of power."

[dakota]

Without stopping to think, Coop braced the wagical firearm 's stock against his hip. His first thought was that he couldn't lose Sarah again, and he'd do whatever to make sure it didn't happen. " Hey Professor," he called out to draw the creature's attention," you got ugly" He pulled the trigger.

Sarah shivers as she feels the energies around her and glances down at her tattoo, wondering if she would have enough magical energies to use it. Sarah steps forward with a resolved look on her face. "We can't let you succeed in what you are planning." she tells Montrose.

Bianca huries to help the dragon, following his lead. She tries to remain calm and concentrate on the task at hand, though she hopes that Coop and Sarah are going to be alright.

Coop's shot bounced off of the former professor's body, absorbed by some kind of force field. "Cocky. You never thought as more than a jock, Zachary. Not every problem can be taken head-on." And he starts to conjure up a spell.

Sarah feels she may have enough power to activate the tattoo, though it would be a choice between that and her other spells and abilities.

Bianca's work, while seemingly simple, was taking its toll on her.

[dakota]

Coop was suprised when the professor spoke to them, and not the demon inside him. " Sorry to disappoint you, professor. Should have brought my shades though so I'd look cool kicking your butt."

Coop began chanting his own spell, at the same time hoping Sarah knew what he was up to with the shades reference. He closed his own eyes as he finished the simple invocation.

[casts Blinding Flash at Montrose]

"All that training." Montrose mocks, as the Blinding Flash seems to have little affect. "And that's it? You certainly have a long way to go if you want to defeat me." As he says this, he waves his arm, a small personal army of demons (about a half dozen or more) run out to distract Coop and Sarah. Genuine fight time.

[dakota]

" Hey! I'm new at this." Coop retorted. He had to fight back the urge to protect Sarah. He readied his weapon, and spoke fairly lowly," Sarah, I hope you've got a plan here."

Sarah flashes a grin at Coop and nods. "Just beat the crap out of the demons." Studying the demons, she attempts to identify them so she will know how to effectively defeat them (lore: demons/monsters: [dice=100], pass)[rand=51145519776600134839850574423187373069102903091375500210645697501]

We'll say it's Gurgoyles, just as the typical demon. And so the battle is joined! Quite frayedly!

They seem to have gotten the jump on Coop, but Sarah's ready for them. The Montrose demon is laughing.
