Captain America slows his pace to allow her to catch up. "Chilvary is a luxury when lives are at stake, but I'm willing to slow down because I'll want the back up if we have to engage the enemy. Remember to breath deep in, and exhale sharply. You won't fatigue as fast."

"Yes sir." Was the last thing she said, not wanting to waste energy talking as they headed towards the town.
After nearly fourty five minutes, she finally spoke, " Okay," she huffed, " I...... gotta stop..." she came to an abrupt halt and bent over to rest her hands on her knees and breathing deeply. " This... is as bad... as saying yes to ... one of General Logan's .... exercise sessions."
In the far off distance, Cap could see slight wisps of smoke in the sky far in the distance, but the air was definitely cooling as the sun was starting to set.

The Star Spangled Avenger pauses for a moment, taking in the sunset. "It'll get much colder once the sun fully sets, and we can't have you too exhausted, nor can we afford much rest." He sweeps the young mutant girl into his arms. "Conserve your strength and don't argue." as he rushes forward at his top speed.

" Hey!" Tabitha protested." I'm no sack of potatoes to throw over your shoulder. I just need a breather for a couple minutes and I'll be ready to go. Put me down or I'll change into my metal form and make you put me down." She threatened, though the threat lost some of it's punch because of her exhausted breathing.

"We've already covered this: time is short, and there's no point in exhausting yourself if we need you to encounter trouble. You claim to be a soldier and tactician? Give me a better option." Cap challenges as he surges forward.

" Obviously you don't know how things work on a battlefield, old man." She squrimed slightly against the discomfort of being carried. " The scouts go ahead because they're faster and do the recon. Then the heavy armor comes in behind them for the main part of the battle. "

Steve can barely suppress a smile. "Interesting. Works in theory, but clearly your Uncle Logan wasn't your primary strategy tutor...I'm going to guess, Samuel Guthrie? At any rate, your strategy assumes that you have time for a full scale assault. This is a rescue and recovery operation with first-response rules - speed is what matters most."

" Cannonball? "Tabitha shook in Cap's arms as she chuckled. " Sam could teach a thirsty horse to drink. Cable said he tried to teach him tactics, but it was pointless. Me and the rest of the younger generations got most of our training from a guy who was on the other side until they turned on him. He looks like his face was ion fire and someone put it out with a shovel, but the Baron knows his stuff."

"Helmut Zemo. Hmm, I expected better of him, but not a surprise." Cap's voice seems oddly distant as he kept moving forward.

" You know him?" Tabitha seemed a little suprised. Her breathing was slowing." Hold it, what do you mean rescue? Look, the Brood, if they made it off the carrier for sure, are toast, okay? No prisoners with those monsters. And Hawkeye? Look, Clint has gone bonkers, remember? He was working with AIM afterall. Not to mention, AIM is controlled by the Brood on some planets." The last part was through clenched jaws, like it wasn't something she wanted to talk about.

"I mean the innocent townspeople in that community if we don't act with utmost haste. Everything else we'll take care of, including Clint, or your universe's version of him, when the need arises. Now quit wasting your strength." Captain America redoubles his efforts as he sprints forward.

" fine" Tabitha huffed before relaxing. by the time they were nearing the the town enough that Cap could make out the buildings, she had actually dozed off in his arms and her head rested against his shoulder, a testament that she could sleep though anything considering how much she was being joustled in his arms. The problem was she was also shivering from the lowering temperatures.

Cap stirs the young mutant. "Alright. Almost there. We'll get you inside and warmed up in no time flat."

" just five more minutes..." Tabitha slurred without opening her eyes, turning her face to bury it into his shoulder and collarbone. As he did, he could see her lips were turning darker than they should be.
