The Central City Chamber of Commerce is holding their spring formal event as a fundraiser to bring new business to the city.
Lex is busy catering. He's putting up with the frustration of being looked down on by the rich and powerful by trying to listen in to any hints of shady dealings.
Viv is busy walking about and connecting with schoolfriends. She's putting up with her mother's obvious attempts at matchmaking to listen for any signs of trouble in town for her and Lex to break up later.
Rex is busy introducing himself to some of the connected members of the city. He's putting up with dealing with the clearly corrupt in order to find out the truth of their current schemes.
Caleb is busy trying to avoid everyone there. He's not at all interested in what they have to say, and is frustrated that some of them clearly still have designs on his family's holdings after everything that's happened....

Still unsure how he got talked into doing this, Lex picked up another tray of sweet bread and circled the crowd slowly so the party goers could take slices as he passed, but did not stop and offer along the way. He did his best to look pleasant, butthe majority of his time was focused on easdropping as he passed by conversations [dice=100][rand=38986521112706356290909059014906829153123331883844811233705956416]

Vivian walks around the party, chatting with guests inwardly reflecting on the fact that she hates parties like these. 'I wish Mother would stop trying to fix me up with duds.' Vivian thinks to herself.

Rex, you don't find any signs of cults or secret societies, but you do overhear a bit about various illicit goings on in town. You even see that curious man and woman from the bakery you visited during that incident a few months back. However, your attention is drawn by someone talking about Maroni.
Vivian, you try to get away from your mother's latest attempt to set you up when you run into a dark haired man wearing a black suit with a short leather tie and a cowboy hat. It strikes as you odd - like something out of those Western reels, but he pulls off the look with his handsome features. "Excuse me, I seem to have gotten in your way." He flashes a grand smile at you.
Lex, you pick up on the conversations about Maroni yourself - apparently he's taken quite a hit and is looking to get "aggressive" to reclaim territory.

Lexx tried to listen in on the speaker about Marconi, but didn't recognize the speaker. Instead he filed the information for later and continued to make his rounds while listening and people watching

Plucks some sweet bread off of a passing tray, a second hesitation as if something's familiar, shrugs, and angles closer, keeping his eyes on people past the current conversational crowd.

Vivian simply nods with a polite smile and says, "It is quite all right. No harm was done."

OOC-> apologies somehow I missed the new thread, inexcusable given that it's been weeks, but I am still interested in the game.
Caleb spends a lot of time glowering at people and saying what amounts to "over my dead body" with more swear words (he's not exactly dignified even if he has money) to anyone he overhears talking about trying to get their hands on his holdings. Eventually he winds up finding somewhere central to sit where he can contentedly glower, making his thoughts on the whole process quite apparent. His information gathering techniques are a bit differant from the other heroes (ie he uses Astral Projection) so he's not spending a lot of time eavesdropping.
If anyone is polite or approaches him with something that isn't an attempted land grab his attitude might change. Oddly one of the reasons why he hasn't sold off his holdings before now is not only that it's the family business, but to take care of his workers like his family never did before him.
He has odd thoughts about all the doors mystically shutting and locking before betentecled monsters from beyond space eat everyone in the place. He smiles briefly and thinks he'll have to remember that idea for one of his wierd tales later.

Lex, you and Rex are both drawn towards a group of men with dark widow's peaks and good suits. They are talking amongst themselves about how "business is down" and "acquisitions will have to go up" to make up for the loss. There's a fearful tone whenever "that steel-plated looney" and "the crazy with the arrows" are brought up.
The man in the Western get up takes Vivian's hand. "Now a proper young lady should not be going unescorted in a place such as this." he leans in conspiratorially. "all sorts of dangerous and strange types about." He pulls back and offers his hand. "Matthew Cannon, at your service, milady."
Caleb doesn't detect anything supernatural going on, but he overhears much of the same discussions - Pasty Maroni's men are looking to take back the streets in the wake of their losses.

Rex files away the references for future research, smiling as if catching a face in the crowd, doing his best to blend in without drawing attention, yet appear casual and at ease.

Lex fought hard against a smirk threatening at the references to him and Vivian. If they were complaining, then they were having an impact. His tray nearly empty, he made his way towards the kitchen to get another one.[rand=40305619934597190492082148140588584037382342931010744276215270569]

Caleb continues to give his best "Bah Humbug" look and try to look unamused, making it clear he might be here for appearances but isn't going to pretend he's enjoying himself.

Vivian fights the urge to roll her eyes as she thinks 'Of course, I'm just a delicate flower who can't take care of herself!' Out loud, Vivian simply takes the offered hand and says, "Pleasure to meet you Mr. Cannon, my name is Vivian Masters.

Mr. Cannon beams. "Vivian? What a lovely name for a lovely miss. Don't suppose you'd let me make up my near knocking you down with a little dance, would you?" There's a mischief in those brown eyes, and something else you can't quite place, even as you hear the footsteps of your mother approaching from behind.
Caleb, you hear the approaching footsteps of one of your dad's old partners, Lester Oakley. He's running a local leatherworks. "How you been, lad?"
Rex and Lex, the assembled goons start talking about how it's very nice of the chamber to host this party and invite the guests tonight - makes it much easier for them to do this particular job....
