Ch. 13 Turning the tide

Seeing that it is safe, William skulkily flies to Dmitri. Landing behind him, but still out of sight of the street, William says to Dmitri, "I'm here."

Ashley's mind seems to be more animal than than the person Alice come to know. It seemed more animalistic than anything she'd touched before, but beneath it she could feel something else that almost felt like a another semi conscious that seemed to be made up of several smaller pieces. The second presence seemed agitated, and Ashley seemed to be affected by it. She continued her efforts against Isamu, but was distracted by Alice's plea enough to turn her attention with a doglike head tilt before replying Stay out of our head. We'll stop when it's done


Startled, Dimitri spun to face Will. " Wraith doesn't trust me anymore. He knows I am to blame for Jason and Alice's escape, but he cannot prove it. He acussed me of helping someone named MacColter who wants to him dealt with. He threatened to ... ." His body seemed to grow a second skin, incasing him in coppery metal. "I will not let him touch Jane, William. "

"You should remain calm, Dmitri. Wraith is pushing you to make the first move." William ansers after a second. "Do you remember when I was with the others in the cars in that alley. Wraith was hurling ice-shots around me, goading me. All he needed for me to do was take one shot. One single shot, and I was his. I'm pretty sure he was filming the whole thing. Now, I have 60 years of experience in killing people in more-or-less cold blood. Wraith has something like 10. Even then, our powers match out. Now, how much do you have in killing experience? Even with your coppery skin?" William turns and heads off to fly. "We should head back. You can explain the specifics of your abilities as we go."

[Mierin]

Alice blinks in surprise at the second prescence 'Who are you?' she asks it 'Stop what you are doing.' Alice tries again, hoping to calm the presence 'Ashley would not want to kill anyone'

[Dome]

Taking advantage of Ashley's distraction towards Alice Isamu lunges forward and once again tries to grab a hold of Ashley and this time move them both away from the edge of the roof. (rolled 19 to entangle PS 31 SuperHuman)

"Ashley I know your in there you can control them, I know your can."

" Easier if I show you." Dimitri replied, as a shimmering doorway of energy appeared behind him. He stuck one foot through it. " I do not wish to kill anyone, but we should go. Wraith is sure to have us followed otherwise. I will explain my powers once we are back. " He motioned Will to enter the doorway.


The second presence seemed to stop what it was doing and turned it's attention to Alice curiously. She faltered a step as Isamu redirected them, and them. After a moment, she looked up at Isamu, her eyes seemingly more intelligent and shrugged out of his hold on her. Her body contorted and she roared until she was back in her human form. She stood there, ashamed. " Did I hurt anyone?" She asked softly.

Isamu watched Ashley transform back and immediately stopped his advance. He too transforms back to his normal state, completely ignoring the others, he says "Do not worry Ashley, no one was harmed. You have nothing to be ashamed of." He walks forward and places a hand on her shoulder and says, "You fight very well. tell me, could you hear and understand what was going on around you?"

Alice closes her eyes and sighs in relief, glad that no one was seriously hurt. Opening her eyes, she steps off the roof quietly, and heads back down to the kitchen to make herself some tea.

Looking like he doesn't suspect anything, William heads for the door. At the last minute, as he steps through, he reaches for, and pulls the gun out, looking around for an instant threat.

[dakota]

The otherside of the gateway leaves Will in the garage of the firehouse, closely followed by Dimitri. As the gateway closes, Dimitri reverts to normal and smiles. " My powers make me your ultimate escape plan." Working on his car, Tyler didn't even notice their return.


Now dressed in his suit, Jason stopped midstride as he passed the doorway and spotted Alice. Not sure if she'd seen him, he tried to sneak up behind her and slipped his arms down over her shoulders, whispering in her ear at the same time. " Everything okay?"


" Oh I remember all of it, especially the part where I wanted to push you off the roof." Ashley replied sullenly. " Sometimes my bug collection get too excited and they override my control. I could hear you coaxing me to take control, but it doesn't work that way. If it hadn't been for Alice.... where'd she go? I gotta thank her."

" She ducked out once she saw things were okay." Trevor answered, opening the door to the stairs. " I'll do the same and give you two some space." He added, pulling the door shut behind him.

Ashley smiled, turning back to Isamu. She gave him a kiss on the cheek and spoke lowly. " Best workout I've had in a while. Maybe next time you won't have to call in the calvary to save you though." she winked and started to walk away.

Isamu blushes after receiving the kiss. "Umm Ashley, I umm... I did not call them in. Although your powers are formidable, I believe that our abilities put us almost on the same plane. "

Isamu walks over and puts on his shirt and shoes.

"You see even if you had pushed me off the edge of the roof I have the power over the earth and could have summoned it to aid me. I enjoyed sparring with you Ashley. Perhaps we can do it again some time. I hope I did not cause you any harm during our work out."

Alice is so deep in thought that she doesn't notice Jason as she heads to the kitchen. She jumps a little, startled as arms slip over her shoulders, but when she looks up and sees it's Jason she smiles at him quietly. "Yeah, everything's ok." she replies. "No one was hurt too badly and the building is still standing." She turns to face Jason and hugs him "I'm going to get myself some tea, do you want some?"

Quietly re-holstering the weapon, William asks. "Can a person go through from the opposite end?"

[dakota]

" I don't know, I've never given it any thought, but I don't think so." Dimitri shrugged. " but Wraith once said I seemed to appear out of nowheres when I use it. Why, what are you thinking?"


" Sure Isamu. Guys never want to admit it when they need help." She turned back and winked. " and no, you didn't hurt me. I was more worried about the chunks of rock I saw coming off you, especially when I bit you. Gotta tell you though, you don't taste very good. Could you even feel it though the rock?"


Holding her for a moment, Jason smiled down at Alice. " Sure, sounds good." He let her go when she was ready and took a seat at the table and watched her. " Does this bother you? the suit I mean. It must be wierd to try to get used to me in my chair and then a couple minutes later I'm walking around. "

Trevor sticks his head in the door as he passed. " You took off so fast, I didn't get chance to thank you Alice for helping with Ashley."

He continued on, but Jason's interest was peaked as he leaned on an elbow, a smirk creeping on his face. " Were you going to tell me?"

Alice hugs Jason for another minute or so. She moves around the kitchen getting the teapot and filles the kettle with water and plugs it in to boil. She thinks about Jason's question for a minute and shakes her head slowly. "No, it doesn't really bother me. There's so many things that I've seen in the last few days that I've had to adjust to.. that wasn't hard to get used to. I am curious as to how it works," Alice smiles shyly "if you ever were willing to tell me."

As Alice waits for the kettle to boil, she turns to Trevor and nods "It was no problem." Alice catches Jason's look and blushes. "I was going to tell you over tea" she insists sheepishly.
