Alice nods and looks at her watch again "Oh, now it's been 1 minute 40 seconds."
She falls quiet as she thinks about Maria's question. "I'm not sure," she admits "maybe it has something to do with how you became what you are now. You and Dexy have different powers and while you look similar to each other, look different as well. Maybe that has something to do with it."

*stares at Alice .. stunned .. her mind is empty of thought for about 5 seconds .. and then stammers out 'how long? ... '

Alice looks puzzled as she looks at her watch again "It's been, um, 1 minute 50 seconds." Alarm crosses her face as she asks "Why? Is something bad going to happen?"

*has a slight fronw on the face as she looks at Alice and then comments* ... 'maybe you'ld better sit so your back is to that tree there .. just in case? .. it will get loud mostly likely' ... *then says nothing else as Alice moves so her back is to the tree trunk, she just waits .. and says nothing, as a small grin forms.
...o0( longer than a minute? .. wow .. thats cool. i wonder how many i can do? .. how far i have to be before they blow up? or even how large i can charge up? i haven't tried that before ) *thoughts race about her head as she thinks of new ways to use her power to blow stuff up*

Alice backs up until she hits the tree trunk. Seeing Maria's grin, she feels even more nervous "What are you going to do?" she asks

*having no other way to describe it, Maria feels the power and time stretch to the point of snapping with a vengance, and as she closes her eyes, the knees jiggle in anticiaption. As Sparks turns to look at Alice again and opens the mouth to say something, the time has run out and a loud report of the rock blowing up is heard.
*for about 100 yards in any direction, the sound of what might be a gun shot is heard. as the distance between anyone hearing it, the sound is more like a pop gun or a distant backfire. For Alice and Sparks, the fine debris floating down in the air ocvering the surrounding area is more than enough.
Sparks calls out 'how long? ... it snapped and when it does .. what ever i .. uhh .. 'charge' goes boom .. saved me lots of times. among other stunts' *her grin is catching, as she looks up at the leaves that still filter some small bits of the dust.

At the sound of the explosion, Alice can't help from uttering a startled scream. Once the debris is falling around them, she says "It's good you have a way to protect yourself when you need to." Alice tries to catch her breath as she tries to get her heart to stop pounding crazily.

'its not like it was gonna actually hit you. you had the tree protect you' .. *the tone of pleasure dropping from the voice until its flat* .. 'don't worry about it. sorry for scaring you that bad, it wasn't what i wanted' *her skin is now a shade of dark grey, which shows her remorse.
*getting to the feet at a speed that shows she's always run from the fist sign of possible danger first. 'sorry. they'll take you no problem.you'll fit in. i'm gonna be that way somewhere. bye .. ' *points vaugely in a direction and then actually heads in the direction she pointed in. the strong wave of sorrow and loneliness washes over Alice and then fades. the distance grows between them as Sparks moves at a quick run as she dashes off.
*she stops about 125 feet farther along the trail, into the woods away from the cabin, the city and the quarry. then sits on a rock, and wedges her back against a trunk and pulls the feet up onto the rock. lost in thought once again. visions flicker across the mind again and the only sound now is 'okay .. do as Dexy said .. relax, don't fight it, relax. maybe that will help' *the skin remains the dark grey, but its against the pain she's fighting. then without a sound, Maria slumps against the tree, unconsious as a trickle of blood flows from one of her ears.

Alice yells out to Sparks "Wait! You don't have to go!" She gets up and walks in the direction that Sparks went to. Spotting Sparks, she runs over to her and shakes her lightly "Maria? Wake up!" Spotting the blood coming out of Maria's ear, she gasps in shock and sprints towards the cottage screaming for Tyler.

Trevor's landing wasn't as graceful as he hit the ground on all fours, still spinning and groaning as he stopped. " Ty never told me that." He stood up and looked at Will, rubbing the knee that took the brunt of the impact. " I'don't know if I can heal myself or not. I've always been afraid to find out what I can do." He lifted from the ground and hovered closer. " Okay, so you've made a fool of me, now what?"
Hearing Alice's shouts, Tyler met her out front with a concerned look. By the time Alice was close enough to talk, Felicia and Ashley were out front as well. Tyler grasped Alice by the shoulder and spoke firmly. " Calm down. Now tell me what's wrong. Where's Maria?"

Alice tries to catch her breath as she looks up at Tyler and tries to explain what happened, "Maria.. she was testing her.. charging things... rocks... very loud.. scared me.. hurt maria's feelings. She ran away.. I followed.. found her... unconcious... blood" Alice gestures towards her ear "coming from inside of ear." By now she's caught her breath enough to talk normally "I tried to wake her up but couldn't. I'm afraid she hurt herself when she was testing her charging thing. She's over there" Alice points in the direction she came from and start to try to lead Tyler to Maria.

*the mutant known as Sparks seems to be the ghost as she follows her life backwards. the tunnel grows darker as the gates that block the experience from her mind seem to creak open and she slips past, against the trickle of fragments that try to slip thru and into the present.
*after walking through what seems like quicksand, finds herself on the far side of the dark tunnel. bruises forming unseen, among the tears in the skin that dont bleed, but show muscle and bone underneath. she watches with horror as that fateful day comes into focus. the day she, Maria, vanished off the streets and into the dark tunnel that beckons once again. she follows the terrified child's paniced screams from the inside of the van, and then looks to see who the driver is, and see's her own mother in the passenger seat with a bundle of cash. the final words before that scene vanishes is her mother's voice to the screaming child 'shut up brat and be good, and everything will work out fine. mommy will come get you soon' *then a gunshot is heard and then it goes to blackness*

Tyler followed Alice to the spot she'd left Maria. He scooped her up in his arms, sputtering " when will this kid learn to trust us and not run off?" He turned to Alice. " I'll take her back to the house and try to help her. I just wish I could figure out what was going on upstairs with her." He carried her to the house and took her in one of the rooms, laying her on the bed. He concentrated, using his healing powers to help her.
Ashley and Felicia intercepted Alice. " She'll be okay. Ty's used to this" Ashley told her. " What happened?" Felicia asked.
Trevor shrugged and raised both arms. A stream of fire shot from both hands at Will as he brought them together to make one concentrated stream. " You asked for it, Gramps." (str= 17+4)
After what seemed like the slowest trip through the city Eric had ever made, Mikey brought the charger to a halt at the lodge. Jason has woke up on the outskirts, and had explained that the Austrailian was a Control agent that was called Taipan after the snake because he had similarities, both his powers and personality. When Mikey stopped the car, they started to unload the trunk

William simply stands there in the martial stance as Tyler's fire washes over him. "I guess that's lesson 2, eh?" He says with a grin. "Now. Stop trying to hit me and hit me. Or, do you want me to tell everyone you're a wussy who's afraid of some hand-to-hand combat?"
