"Thanks, Janx, but one Socrates is enough." She giggled like a school girl and followed her friend inside waving for the team to follow. She used the floor mat and being respectful to their host, though being feline, it might remind some of kicking iin a litter box.
She heard XO on the open mic and was livid, but nothing to do about it now but keep him ambulatory. He couldn't be evaced, abandoned or shot, even though he seemed to have a cranial hemorrhage. Maybe the Doc could do what she needed to do to keep him moving, and maybe even save his life in the old man's home. She needed to offer something in return, but not overstep authority or offer too much. If Shep couldn't go on due to risk, maybe he could stay here. Tori moved slowly.
Now out of the rain, Tori removed her helmet. As she was under arms, Naval Custom dictated she could be covered. She replaced it with her boonie, and purred softly. "Like I said, Team Shagcat. I'm gonna invite the rest of our SOG in. I'll see what Six will give up, but I kenn part with some ammo, a knife and maybe some rats, iffen ya need. We got a doc, so if you or any of yers or yer dog needs anything, I'll ask our Boss."
She wondered how many people lived in the house, but knew it rude to ask. It was akin to saying, "If we killed ya and robbed ya, would anyone interrupt." She left the question unasked, but remained the curious cat.
"Whatcha doin way out here, and for how long?" She took a survey of the place, looking for dangers, information and clues to who the man might be, but made it look as though she was just getting her bearings in a new building. Maps, weapons or enemy equipment were priorities to identify, clarify and classify.

"Didn't start until that damned Sub dove deep. I'll be okay, Doc." Shep shouted loudly over the wind and rain as he took his helmet off for Autumn. There was as he had said a small bloodstain coming from his left nostril, and a crust on his ear.Though hard to diagnose in the storm, it appeared to be caused by his previous injuries. " At least wait until we get under cover, I'm getting soaked."
The hound woofed once in replied, then turned back towards the cabin, trotting slowly so Socrates would follow her.
The older man hung his rifle on couple posts just below the window. It was a good size building, but not designed for a strike team. The owner replied, " Might be a little milk left, lemme check. Caal the rest of your people in out of the blasted rain so I can shut the door. We can wheel and deal then" He said as he put a coffee pot on the small cook stove. Nothing in the place gives away who or what he is ecept some old photos of a group of armed men together and on the table lay a box that looked remarkibly like the ones medals were presented in.
Sam, as you wait alone outside, you heard something off to your right, it sounds sort of like a large bird of some sort.
Richardson hears the same thing behind him.

Socrates rolls his eyes at Shep, but follows the dog to the door. "We've got an in." Soc says to his radio, sealing the helmet before he's seen at the door. Turning his back to the cabin, he does a visual scan for his teammates.

Tori keyed her mic. "Doc, you can treat Shep inside better than ya can in the rain and the dark. Y'all get in doubletime and stay frosty. The rest of y'all hotel alpha (haul ass), too. Our host said there can be raptors lurkin'. Everyone, make sure you wipe your feet. He's got hot november juliet for us."
Tori felt better getting let in, but wanted to keep an eye on their host. He seemed like a nice enough old coot, but the CS had a list of enemies as long as an aircraft carrier. If he was some kinda mage, the real danger could be within, and not without. She telepathed Janxi to watch the door, but to keep an eye on the world indoors, too.
Tori walked to the table, looking at the medal box, then to the pic of the warriors, trying to pick out the old guy. Humans tended to look alike to her, unless they had different color hair or different color skin. Things like that. Females and males were easy to discern, and once she got to know a human, like the team, she could tell them apart. She tried to glance in the medal box to see what the old dude had been awarded. She would worry if it was a Tolkien medal.
"Hey Pops, when was this taken? Where were you guys? Which one's you?"

"Agreed. We can do that then Shep." She will follow the instructions and wait until such time as it is good to properly assess and work on it.

"Janxi." Socrates says turning into the house. "You should go round up the others. I will stay with Tori here. The forest it too quiet." He years of being in the woods told him when things were the wrong kind of quiet. Something about that feeling, in the midst of a storm like this, irked the dog-boy, and it showed a little in his voice; it was clear he wasn't asking for any kind of alone time from the kill cat.

Tori's untrained first reply would have been to ridicule Socrates as paranoid. As a trained operator, though, she knew he was probably right. She put the pic down and returned to the door, replacing her boonie with her helmet and engaged the thermo to scan the jungle around them. Reptiles absorbed heat, and should be warmer than the environment, in her mind. If not, she scanned the jungle in the visible spectrum, too, and readied her rifle to provide cover for inbound soldiers.
Silently, she kept her telepathy on and communicated with Jan. "I don't see nothin', but we ain't heard Six sound off in a bit. I'm ok with you going out for a look-see and I'll keep ya covered."
She looked up at Socrates. "I don't see shit, but I trust ya. Help me give'em'all some cover fire, if they need it. Lemmie know if you smell anything too."
Tori next keyed her radio. "Tori to litter, didi mow (hurry up) to the house. Six, Shep, Rich and Autumn sound off on your radio. Soc has a bad feeling. I'm sending out Janx to cover and assist, if needed. If he has a bad feeling, that's good enough for me. Remember, don't trip on that tripwire."
With a press of a button on her shotgun, she dropped her mixed clip of shotgun shells. She replaced it with a clip of slugs. Lasers were good at burning things up, but did not have the kinetic energy needed to knock an enemy over. Slugs would only leave lead skidmarks on armor, but felt like a punch from the heavyweight champion of the Navy.
She turned her own senses to the great outdoors. Sometimes, between storm bands, people could experience the "Dead Calm." All was quiet, but the rest of the team, especially injured members, might need some cover while coming in.

Jan looked at Tori as if to affirm Socrates' idea. When she heard the little cat's voice in her head she nodded and replaced her helmet on her head and sealed it. "Once more into the breech," she muttered. "Oooh-rah, T-bone!"
It was good Tori had her back. She had grown more at ease with Socrates, but had trained for months with Tori before she ever got posted to the team. She knew Tori always had her back. Tori was sneakier, and would make the better prowler, but if something was out there, heavy weapons and heavy hitting meant more than stealth and speed.
She used the heat vision in her armor, then looked around the swamp with her naked eyes, trying to remember where the rest of the team was. "Tori, you and Soc cover me. I'm gonna go get everyone. Why the hell ain't they coming in anyhow?"
She knew Autumn would be busy with Shep, but Richardson and Capt'n Sam should have been in by now. Any kind of altercation would be heard. Where were they? She stalked out into the storm, looking for everyone, while avoiding the tripwire Tori discovered, and listening for both friends and danger. She got low like a stalking cat, ready to bring up her FWS to shoot or shred.

Sam's eyes narrow hearing Shep's account of having an additional injury and then at the noise. Radioing the team, she says "On my way." As she keeps an eye out for whatever made the sound, she adds, "I heard movement off to my right. Sounded like a large bird. Keep your eyes open, everyone." Sam then starts to head toward the cabin, rifle at the ready just in case.

Richardson turns around leveling the big gun in the direction he heard the noise. Crouching low he says, "Captain, may I suggest we slowly move towards the shack before whatever this is comes closer." He begins to slowly walk backwards keeping his eyes peeled and weapon ready, safety now off as he cautiously moves one foot at a time making sure not to trip as he moves towards the cabin keeping himself and his gun between the others and whatever made the noise.

Sam didn't notice it, but Richardson saw directly in front of her in the underbrush stood a Velociraprot, coiled and ready to pounce.
Socrates, Tori and Janxi could now hear the birdlike calls from the bush, and thermo imagery picked up the signatures of several man sized forms circling the others.
" Yeah, let's go Doc." shepherd said, but instead of moving towards the cabin, he pulled her backwards. Despite the storm, the flashed of his energy rifle lit up the swamp," Heads up people! Ambush!" Autumn could see and hear the dinosaur that Shep had fired on.

The gunfire shook Tori. Somehow, she didn't think it was another team flanking them. Raptors were roughly human sized, but not human shape. Even more, large birds of prey like condors and hawks were known as raptors for a reason. Someone probably thought velociraptors hunted like birds, or birds hunted like them. For all she knew, they even chirped like birds.
If it was another team of anyone, they had nothing but bad intent for surrounding a team with a man down. She raised her rifle at the target nearest Shep. "Get some!" she hissed. She would show them why dinos were extinct, and felines were the alphas on the food chain!
