Sam smirks at Shep's response as she fires another blast at the creature.

As they poured another barrage into the montrous spider, it shrieked as it stumbled. By the time it stopped, it was mere feet from the squad and they realized just how big it really was. " This sucker gotta be twenty feet long." Shep exclaimed. He looked at Sam," who do want to go with Autumn to check on those kids?"
The Tarbid wasn't dead, but it clearly wasn't able to attack anymore.

Slinging his 303 Richardson pulls his plasma shotgun as he walks up to the creatures head. Lining up the gun with the creatures eye, aiming back towards the back of its head, he pulls the trigger.

Tori covered Richardson, shaking her head as he attempted to deliver the coup de gras. "Don't get too close. He may have some fight left. What a foxin' ugly mutha foxer!"
"Hey Shep? Permission for us cats to escort Doc and salvage the boat?" She knew Janx could right the boat on her own, and she wanted to check out the kids. Maternalism was a hard trait to suppress.

"Yeah, Shep. I can get that boat righted, but the motor's gonna be fox'd til we can get it to a shop. We saved this tribe's cubs, so I reckon they maybe owe us. Let's tow it in and maybe swap em some grenades for a runnin' boat."
She lowered her rifle from her shoulder, but kept it pointed towards the tarbid. "Ugly's right. Be careful, Richardson." She spat in the direction of the wounded spider. "Fox 'em!"

Sam starts to utter a warning to Richardson, but since the cats did, she doesn't repeat it hoping Richardson was smart enough to heed the cat's warnings. When Tori asks for permission to salvage the boat, she nods even though she asked Shep. "Go ahead. Be quick and careful." Sam keeps her rifle trained on the spider, just in case it's just playing dead, ready to shoot if she needs to.

Richardson's blast splattered bug guts all over him, and Tori for getting too close covering him as the Tarbid made one last spasm before the legs went limp.
Shep chuckled," That's liable to stain your armor. Cap, it it wise to just take these kids boat like that? It's a little harsh."

Tori looked down at the barbecued arachnid squish now all over her armor, then up at Richardson. "Gee, thanks. I needed that. That's right kind of you. Now I gotta give you something for Christmas."
She waded into the swamp and pulled on her fins. "Nobody's just takin' nothin. We're helpin' them cubs and gettin' their boat upright. If we can barter for a boat, so be it. But if not, at least we did the right thing, and maybe their folks'll give us some info. Come on, Janx. I'll help the cubs and you get their boat upright so they can tow it home. 'Sides, I need a bath. Y'all cover us."
The little cat had some training as a rescue swimmer having served as such in Iron Heart before being cleared for combat. She swam to the children from the capsized boat. "Y'all be cool, I'm here to help. Is everyone okay? Anyone from the boat unaccounted for or hurt?"
She tried to sound as friendly as possible, hoping to come across as the kind little kitty instead of the face-ripping SEAL.

Janxi giggled at her friend. "That's nasty T! But you wear spider guts and still look purty." She giggled lounder and shook her head at both Tori and Richardson.
She entered the swamp behind Tori and attached her swim fins. She dived under the surface towards the boat, and pushed it up out of the water and rightside up but away from the kids, like it was just a canoe. Then, she waved the other boat over.
"Y'all come up and throw me a line. We're gonna need to tow this one back in."
Actions: Swim under swamped boat and right it.

Richardson walks away from the bug not even bothering to wipe away the guts, as if they aren't there. He leans the shotgun against his shoulder as he steps away an indifferent look on his face. "It was near death. Making it die slow would have been cruel," he says in a tone of voice that indicates this should have been common knowledge.

Shep looked at Richardson for a moment, contemplating. Then he grinned," Compassion for a bug the size of a tank. That's a new one. You might want to clean yourself up before that starts to stink."
(GM NOTE: I have to ask, how does a 20 ft trap door spider(which is essentially what a Gruesome Tarbid is) build it's nest underwater? Tori and Janxi, please edit your posts as air boats go on flat land nearly as well as they do on water)

The doctor having not taken a shot at the creature is elated. "How wonderful. You shot it in the head which leaves most of it intact for maybe some harvesting of samples. Now would one of you be so kind so we can collect the venom for experimentation at a later date."

(Tarbid gotta dig, I figure... Most spiders put out an aerial web... Those that don't dig pits, a la brown recluse or Tarrantula. It's for pitfall or ambush, with a web down there.
(The swamps I know are a good 10 feet of muck, with 3-4 feet of water above the muck. Maybe 2 when in drought. We'll see 6-7 feet of water after a hurricane because of HUGE rains already mentioned. Maybe more if a soaker, like 10 feet. Even on something with high ground, like a street, there is water all over the road, given 15+-inches if rain. Every river is swollen and can't take more water. A non-draining swamp would be HUGE. Even if it drained, and was right by a river, the river would be 6-feet over its banks, and the swamp would be bloated. If we gotta wade, we wade, but after all the precipitation, and already in a swamp, I think we can swim
(Normal conditions might be 6-inches of air-boat clearance with another 6 beneath, but a hurricane is super-abnormal. Even in drought, the Everglades are a minimum of four feet, and an airboat needs AT least 2 feet to ride. Otherwise, every rock, tree stump, or forlorn branch would rip its hull, especially at flank racing speed. No experienced boater, and I take them as well experienced as this is their home, would pilot without that clearance at racing speeds.)
Tori WADES to the injured kids, if the water is too shallow for swimming, and STILL checks them out for injury, looking muddy and covered with spider guts.
"Again, Y'all ok?"

(all right, I'll give you the flood plain theroy)
Aboard the less damaged airboat, three male and one female young teens stared at Tori's approach. Though straggly, dirty and dressed in ratty homespun clothes, they were human.
"What is that?" Said one of the boys. " It talks like a person."
"Bet it's one of dem muties from inland" said another.
"It's a she, and she's talking to us." Said the female.
"Guys, they slagged that dino spider to help. How bad can they be?" Asked the third, out of sight behind the others.
"don't wanna find out." Same number two. He had a battered over/under scattergun and aimed towards Tori. When Janxi flipped the other airboat, the one with the shotgun misfired, smattering Tori's armor with harmless shot pellet.
He swallowed hard and shrunk back, " Uh oh)

Having not made a show of himself, Socrates opted to help the cats get the boats settled. He had only reached the edge of the water when the shot went off.
In trained instinct, his rifle was levelled towards the armed kid in the boat, covering Tori. There were no orders to protect the children - human or not they were not CS - and Tori was on his team. Even if she could shred them in a less-than-fair fight, barehanded... blindfolded... on one leg... singing Mozart... while solving complex math equations with a chalkboard, it was still the correct order of things to cover her.
"You would be wise to lower the rifle." Socrates said, clearly for the children and Tori, his rifle visibly trained on them. "And she may not harm you." He suspected she wouldn't anyways since the shot did no harm her, but it was better to let the warning hang there for the kid to know what to do next.
