Issue 8: Enter the Webslinger

"Anything out of the ordinary will help Hawkeye. Spider-Man and I will be right up." He turns to the Wall-Crawler. "You'll get a chance to say it in public. If you're lucky, maybe that Parker gentleman who gets your photos for the Bugle will be out there to get some shots of you." The Star Spangled Avenger begins to race out of the room to the hangar bay.

"That Parker guy is a wonderful photographer. It's like he knows that my left side is my good side! Also, he's incredibly dashing!" All of this is said while Spider-Man follows Captain America out of the room and into the hangar bay.

Hawkeye had the Quinjet's engine warmed up and waiting. He stood in the hatch, leaning on his bow. "I might have a place to start. Any ideas why there would be radiation in the Holland Tunnel?"

"The Presence. They said he might be a recruit." Captain America climbs in. "We better punch it, old friend."

[dakota]

"The Presence?" Hawkeye ' eyes widened. " Is it too late to use up those vacation days I have booked?" He smirked as he patted Steve on the shoulder while boarding. "Come on, webslinger, I've got the rookie booster seat already secured."

Captain America takes the pilot's seat and brings the systems to life. "We'll manage."

[HSummers]

Spider-Man climbs on board and says "Did I ever mention that I'm allergic to radiation?" He puts his seatbelt on and gets ready to ride.

Captain America opens the quinjet hangar doors and takes the familiar aircraft into the sky.

[HSummers]

"So...Cap...Now that I'm an Avenger, can I write off this web fluid to the Stark Foundation? This stuff is expensive!" Spider-Man pulls a cartridge of web fluid from his utility belt and inserts it into his webshooter. He accidentally turns on his Spider-Signal from his belt buckle. "Oh... Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

"We can discuss then after we've dealt with the crisis at hand. " Cap responds as he takes the Quinjet out.

[HSummers]

"Also, I'm thinking this quinjet thingy needs a new paint job. How about red and blue? With black lines on it in the shape of webs? That'd be pretty sweet. Right, Hawkguy? Wait, why do they call you Hawkeye anyway? Are your arrows mystically powered by the Hawk Totem?"

[dakota]

"You know," Hawkeye looked at Spiderman for a moment," I'm really glad I came prepared to deal with you." As he said it, he pulled out a pair of earplugs and put them in as he sat in the co pilot's seat.

As they neared the tunnel, they flew over a deployment of National Guard troops setting up barricades to keep people away from the Holland tunnel. "About the only thing the weekend warriors are good for."

Cap gives Hawkeye a stern look. "Our soldiers provide the services they can, without special training, gadgets or powers. Their work may not be glamorous, but it is often no less dangerous than ours, and not as celebrated or debated in the public eye. It is necessary and heroic duties they perform. And you should remember that, Avenger." Cap brings in the Quinjet for a landing before disembarking.

Hawkeye just looked at Cap during his berating, and held a pause for a moment. Then he removed the earplugs and smirked," I'm guessing I just missed something important judging by that look. What do you know, we're here." He was the first out of his seat as they landed . "So, radiation, right? I vote we let the junior member lead the charge down the tunnel."

Captain America shakes his head and leads the group out of the quinjet.
