"Think they should be along any second. They were going to see the chaplain," Richardson says, leaving out the stop Tori had planned to ELINT. That stop wouldn't have been needed if info had been more forthcoming from Shep or the Captain.

Hearing Doc from Sams lips actually causes a cringe from her. She knows that it would be wrong not to stick up for herself but in her head actually formulates a plan on how to get it to stop. Or at least from certain people, although it may take a long time for her to implement it. "Why Thank-you Sam. And if you do not mind Doctor please!""

a 2nd luietenant at the next table shrugged. " doubt it, Ma'am. Unless they call in artillery support, it just means something wandered into the perimeter fencing. Happens a couple times a week. How do you think we get all this fresh meat they serve?" He grinned, showing no disrespect with his comments.
Shep caught Richardson's tone and reacted to it. " Fine, and as long as DOCTOR Santiago can hump her own trash and knows how to use it, I don't care what she carries. Do you understand, CORPORAL Richardson?" He looked at Sam, " Okay, those two furballs didn't strike me as the religious type. Soc, you need any new squeaky toys before we head out?" He smirked to show he meant nothing by the comment.

Socrates looked at Shep. "A stand-in, sir." He says, smirking. "Maybe we can find one for you, too?"
Shaking his head, he shrugs. "I have no plans to annhiliate a swatch of forest. Hacking through it, maybe. But not burn." With a pause, he says, "Swords?"

Richardson wasn't surprised or phased by Shep's use of his rank. He says, "I understand perfectly sir. I told her the same thing. I also picked up that 303, Chief. Nice weapon. Captain, do we know how we are getting into the area?"

Tori led Janxi back towards the chow hall. Along the pathways she scanned for an enlistedman or non-com with a combat veteran's badge, a SEAL trident, a Marine's EGA, or other special warfare qualification badge-animals preferred, especially cats over humans, but a dog will do. As long as she hears no secondaries, she'll change out into her soft-cover before approaching.
"Hey, (Insert soldier's sailor's or marine's rank here). I'm SO-3 Tori. " The wee cat said on approach. "We got us a mission out in the swamp tomorrow, and we're wondering what you've run up against and how to take down dinosaurs most effectively. I guess they ain't got no magic, but are about as tough as dragons. We'd sure like to know what to expect."
Tori poured on the personality, though still sounded like a first rate operator. Sooner or later, she hoped she would find a cat fancier.
Roll to trust [dice=100] needs 45
Still, she came across as feline and not human. She was more likable than the average cat, but maybe it was her lone star accent, or the way her eyes caught light. If the serviceman was unable or unwilling to help, she would approach another.
Same roll [dice=100] with the same speil.
Whether helped or not, she decided to return to the dining hall, stopping at the ops center for the better maps, and at the PX for a leatherman. With that in hand, she'll return to the dining hall, Janxi, her mostly silent and extremely violent partner a her side.[rand=7497750295589765516869273166890771758665909767836186691435688265]

" You nailed it bang on." A soldier with a "CSN FOR LIFE!" T-shirt on coming from the showers. " All you can do is keep pounding on them until they either run away or fall over dead. You're going out tomorrow? Hope you packed your swim trunks, it's gonna get ugly. I heard the Colonel is recalling everyone out in the field. Good luck."
Shep chuckled at Socrates reply. " Not to worry, Soc. I've got two extra vibro sabers in my duffel I drew before we left Ft.Griggs. We're good." He looked at Richardson and nodded, then turned to Sam," I guess we're sorted, Cap, except for this whole submarine thing." His eyes shifted to the cats as he mentioned the sub.

"Hoo-ya, Shipmate!" Tori said with a purr. The "Hooya" war-cry, meant everything from "Thanks," to "Yes," to "Kill" to a sailor and Seal. It was just proper naval courtesy.
She was working on a theory, if the nasty things couldn't self-heal, she could hobble it by blowing off a foot or shooting an artery. It wouldn't be as good as a boomgun to centre mass, but then again, she wouldn't need a boomgun. Even one of Janxi's legbreaking holds would leave the thing hobbled and vulnerable to others of its kind. Drawing blood might even be enough to make it a target to other dinos, as most predators keyed on blood, cats and dogs included. It was a similar theory infantry used on bots and big bad PA's. Smash weapons, destroy joints and cripple, rather than get into a futile slugfest between guns. Infantry usually lost to armour.
With one leatherman now added to her LBG, and another passed to Janx, she added the AO maps to her existing collection and returned to the chow hall, somewhat wiser for the time she invested during the afternoon.
"Sub?" everyone could hear the purr in her voice. It all became clear. If a small sub could beach, they would make it to shore in even heavy seas. A good RIB (rigid-hulled inflatable boat) operator might could take them in, or at least she could swim in, or sled in with Janxi.
"Yeah! Hell yeah! That's the first class way to travel, sirs! Outstanding! Is it a mini-sub, or a fast attack?" Her new shipmate was right. She was going for a swim. "Oh, and we got some intel and maps, too. We still gotta hit up meteorology and the ARO," the latter being the aerial recon office.
"I can brief y'all now, or we can try to get aerial and weather if ya want."

"The chaplain had maps?" Socrates asked, as he picked up his own gear.
Turning to Sam, he says, "We're all here, Captain." Socrates says. "Ready when you are."

"No, Ops and the quartermaster had maps. We went to see the charles about undead and dead magic, and have the best intel we could get." Tori said, suppressing a giggle at what she considered a silly question. Her tail swished from side to side in an amused way, and her ears rolled forward as her eyes dilated slightly indoors.
She produced her map-case and pulled out a heap of everything from reproductions of old road maps, to contour maps suitable for orienteering. "Some aerial would help, though."

Socrates looked oddly at Tori. "The captain briefed Shep and I." He says. "We will be moving in by Sub, to a place called the Cape. Shep knows it well as a good staging area. The sub will allow us to evade the hurricane - in theory: I doubt stormsurge will be merciful. We'll then move towards the target area after the storm has moved on." He explains, verifying with a glance to Sam. "Did I miss anything?"

Sam nods at Socrates as she looks at the rest of the team. "No, you didn't miss anything. My plan had been to brief everyone once we were all together again, but you took care of that." Turning to Tori, she says "Tell me, what intel did you get?"

Autumn decides not to interject at all and just remains silent despite what is said. When Shep speaks up, "Do not worry, I can easily carry everything I have here. I did plan ahead to maximize the ratio of what could be carried and am. The amount loaded right now is easily within an easy level of carrying for my strength ration so not to worry."
She does decide that she should at some point talk to Richardson as his pursuit of her may eventually land in him more trouble then what he has received but that will be a time of choosing later where none of his fellow soldiers are around.

Roll for wilderness survival to get a read on reptiles, needs 42 [dice=100], Roll for intel to know what is around needs 42 [dice=100]
Tori unfurled her maps. She wasn't much of a navigator, but knew what was what from the briefing.
"Thanks, Six. Like the name says, or big problem is gonna be dinos. I talked to a fella navy man, and he said our best bet is to shoot 'em til they fall down dead or run off. But he ain't a cat. These things are as tough as a baby dragon, but they ain't got no magic. They can't self heal, so if we maim one, Dino won't be much of a threat. It's the same way infantry deals with power armor. Shoot out a knee, it will probably bleed to death, and all that speed is out the door.
"Remember, bipods, are often, not always carnivores. Quads are usually herbivores," she said recalling the briefing on her pad on the way in. "Any cat or dog can tell you, we are hunters. We can smell blood and carion, or detect a wounded animal. I bet dinos are close to the same way. This means, droppin' a beast could buy us a lil time.
"Mr. Trassk. That pig Richardson brought you may be more of a curse than a blessin'. Some wild animals retreat or are confused by mechanical noise and gunfire. Much like Janxi, these foxers are at the top of the food chain, meanin' a big noisy chopper like that might just sound like the dinner bell. I ain't familiar with that model, but if it is about as hard hittin' as a C-40, get a TX-42 like mine. If it hits a little harder, grab a Wilk's 457. They are both lightweight, and better than a railgun cuz they're silent. They ain't gon' sound like a dinner bell to a dino, and they ain't gon' tell the enemy we're comin' uphis driveway.
"Our next question is the enemy. We gotta make some 'sumptions here. The Atlantic is east of the swamp, and it ain't wide 'nuff between shore and Atlantis for me. Now I talked to a Frog in the radio shack, and he don't fancy us cats. Still he said traffic was light in the area meaning a lot of low tech types. What there was was headin' north for Char. One signal was in the immediate AO, but it was too weak to be distinct. We still don't know who are the people in our neighborhood.
"My shipmate said he mostly fights dinos, and ain't run into too much else. No juicers, d-bee's or mutoids, and there ain't just a whole bunch of magic. That means the Splooges ain't got much to be interested in, other than maybe a dino or a quick snack. If they had our boys, I think they would send 'em back to Atlantis or hell or whatever rock they crawled out from under, rather than leave valuable livestock in a swamp full of man-eatin' scalefaces. Now that don't mean there ain't some rogue Splooge operatin' off the reservation.
"It could be another slavin' group, but there ain't many that could take down Sea-Sogs. And I don't thing the Slug-Sploogies like competition at the house next door.
"Socrates, since you asked, I went to the chaplain to find out if any patrols had run into undead, or he'd issued any crosses or that stuff. He said no, but there is some undead activity, includin' ghost soldiers near Char. Chaplain Charlie said most of what we got can be bombed or burned. I think we might need to prepare for a possibility this could be dead-magic. Sorry, Six. He said it ain't a good chance, but the slaver thing ain't just that likely to me.
"To the north of the swamp," Tori pointed to the Virginias and Maryland. "we got some old intel about black skull robots." She calls up a picture of a Cyberworks A-63. "We also have verified data that this area is thought to have been the earth ingress point for the Killer Cyborgs, now thought to be extinct." She calls up a picture of a Mechanoid wasp. "Neither black skull robots or killer cyborgs are known to take no prisoners. "We have some reports of Shemarrian D-Bee Cyborgs in the area, but they have traditionally been known to engage in battles of strength, and no slavin'"
Tori paused for a sip from her water bottle before she continued.
"Most animals retreat from fire, so it might not be bad to go heavy on plasma grenades. It ain't like we're gon' start a forest fire out there. Some willy pete (white phosphorous) might give T-rex a little time to think, and a hell of a rash. Be good if we run into undeads, too. 'Round here is too soggy for vamps, anyhow. Y'all got some questions?"

"Hel, we oughta load up on NVG's, thermals, and IR lights and goggles. Out there, and in a storm, it might as well be night," Tori thought to add.
