CH 16: Moving on... (Mai and Kendall)

[Dome]

Realizing he screwed up, Kendall puts down his laptop and takes off in pursuit of Mei. Getting out the door he looks up and down the hall for her, and if he doesn't see her he turns up his amplified hearing until he detects, her footprints, her breathing, her heartbeat if he has too. Once he pinpoints her location he takes off in that direction as fast as he can safely go.

William, meanwhile looked up from the computer as he tried the keyboard with his long fingers. Looking up, he notices he's alone. After sniffing his armpits to make sure it wasn'T him, he decides his giant fingers were better suited for the flimsy printed paper news sheets Kendall had mentioned.

Through diligent sound engineering, Kendall finds Mei on top of the roof in an urban starlit night. The clouds were coing and going, obscuring the moon and stars from the sky. They hundreds of buildings sky scrapers and arcologies glowed in bright colours into the night sky, as far as they could see. The breeze was blowing slight, causing Mei's clothes to flutter as she looked off into the whereever.

[Dome]

"Hey Mei, there you are," Kendall says sheepishly. "Can we talk about it? I'm sorry for being so dense."

Mei does not turn as the tears of frustration are running down her face. "Look I am sorry I got emotional. But I am very, very frustrated right now. I know I should of learned more computer stuff when I was in school, but really all I used it for was my papers and email. I really am trying, but it is just so frustrating right now."

She still looks out over the side of the building glad she is not afraid of heights and also more so that she can fly.

[Dome]

Kendall walks over to Mei and steps up on the ledge like her. "Its ok hun, there is nothing to apologize for. So it isn't working, lets change tactics. I got so wrapped up in the research and investigation I was too dense to understand where you were coming from."

Kendall looks out over the city, "its beautiful at night. You can almost forget the crime and lawlessness that goes on here." After a long sigh, "I'm sorry I didn't take the time to think about your reaction to all this. I guess I like the investigating more than I thought. Its easy to get caught up in it. a couple of days ago, the guy that gave me my bionics asked me to do some digging, some PI stuff. I tried turning him down, but he kinda made me feel like I owed him one. So I did. Some of it was research like we are doing tonight, some of it had me following this guy. Hehe... I followed him right into a Cavallier trap. It seems the guy I was following is a member of the Cavalliers and the guy I was doing this work for may be in the wrong after all. Hec for all I know he may be involved with this zombie stuff. Anyway what I am trying to say is I may have gotten carried away."

He looks out, and down this time, he sways a little in the breeze, he grits his teeth and says, "not afraid of heights are you? umm... Heh, why don't we go back inside and work together this time. I'll run the searches and then we can read over the results together. You will probably pick up stuff I miss," after a pause, "besides then I have an excuse to sit real close to you on the sofa, where I am sleeping tonight," he says with a wink at her.

Not feeling much better after his talk she sits there still looking over the edge of the building. The tears are still flowing from her eyes although to a degree they have slowed somewhat.

"I am sorry, but basically you said that don't work on that then go do that. And I feel soo useless right now. I mean I can not believe I in this day and age only know how to use a computer to such a small degree." She sniffs a bit.

"I am sorry I am not the best company right now!"

[Dome]

"You may not think your the best company, but your the only company I want. I know what I said was insensitive. I'm really sorry. Nothing I can say can take it back. I'm sorry I didn't think before I spoke."

Kendall looks back out over the city and contemplates just jumping and ending the conversation. Instead he says, "you know Mei, you may not be as proficient in computers as I am, but you are the best dancer I have ever seen. Your also smart, funny, and I enjoy being around you more than any person I have ever met. You learned enough computers to do well in school and there's nothing wrong with that. If you want to learn more, I'll be more than happy to help you learn. Your so smart, I'm sure you'll pick it up fast."

She looks up at him her eyes somewhat dried. "Thank-you that does make me feel a little better at least. I would really like to learn at any rate." She latches on to Peter in a hug.

"You know I must be a mess right now, and I do not know why but after a mood shift like this I always seem to want Icecream!"

[Dome]

Kendall gladly takes her in his arms. "I could get used to holding you like this," he says while pulling her to him. He continues, "but uh can we do it away from the ledge? Some of us don't have the sense of balance of a professional dancer."

[sasqaricious]

"Sorry just love the freedom of being in the air. It feels so nice. So peaceful. Makes me wish that we could fly." She looks up at home. "Can you fly??"

[Dome]

"Fly? No. Not one of the included upgrades. I think I have a grappling hook and cable line though. Could probably swing through the air like Tarzan. Never tried it. Can you? You sure you want some icecream? It won't make you sick?"

[sasqaricious]

"Yes it will but will also comfort me. I know, it is silly, why have something to comfort you when you know the results will make you feel like crap." She sighs audibly while letting him lead her back.

[Dome]

"I'm not in a rush to get back, unless you are," he says hugging her again. "Sweetie, if it makes you happy even for a moment I'll get you whatever you want."

[sasqaricious]

"No it is ok, you have already done so much for me. I mean I would feel so wrong if I ask you to do this after all you have done. I mean I could go and get myself an Ice cream treat if I really wanted too." She realizes the reason she is probably so moody is the level of sun she had today. Light is good and nourishing but sun would be so much better.

I should probably get myself a sun lamp or tanning bed of some sort at my new place. I know that they do a pinch and a lot better then regular lights! Thinking to herself as he leads her back inside.

[Dome]

"Mei I can run out. Literally, it wont take me very long. Just tell me whats your favorite." Kendall takes her hand in his and drops off the ledge, then pulls her back towards the apartment door.
