Ch 14: A Night Out, or: Those Darn Caveliers

[Dome]

Kendall looks down into his drink forccursing himself for even being out with these girls. He doesn't feel like himself, he hasn't since the accident and the implants. Before, if he had gone out to dance with them the worst that could have happened was he stepped on a toe and was embarrassed. Now if he steps on a toe, it could end in a trip to the emergency room and an amputated toe.

Anyone looking at him could see the conflict on his face. He looks at his watch and says, "you know what, I should probably just head home. Its been a long day for me, and tomorrow will be another."

[Renekin Skywalker]

Daveris blinks. "Wow, this whole conversation has just whizzed by... Maybe it's a signal that I need some rest. Got my swan song tomorrow, right?" She says with a wink. "Don't you kids stay up too late." And she gets up.

[sasqaricious]

"OK Daveris if that is what you want." She bids farewell to her friend but waits for Daveris to leave before speaking to Kendall again. "But you do not have to leave yet Kendall. Obviously I have said something wrong or something that really makes you uncomfortable. I am guessing it was the dancing suggestion and for which I am sorry. Why do you not pick something to do as right now as Daveris has left, this is honestly the closest thing I have ever had even remotely close to being a date."

[Dome]

Kendall stands with Devaris and says, "do you want us to walk back with you or something? I'm sure you know CS can be a dangerous place at night."

[Renekin Skywalker]

"Oh, it's OK." Daveris says. "I can alway just take a cab. See you tomorrow, and wish me luck!"

Leaving money for her food, she heads out.

And so Kendall and Mei are there for their nottadate.

[Dome]

"Nice meeting you, see you on set tomorrow."

Kendall sits back down with a thump. He takes a sip of his drink and gives Mei a week smile.

"Look Mei, I don't want you to think its anything about you. My life hasn't exactly gone the way I thought it would. Things weren't that bad, but the accident, well it just changed things for me. I lost..." Kendall closes his eyes in recognition of the pain and loss. "It was bad, I barely survived. I spent months in the hospital, not even able to get out of bed. The only way out was to agree to get these implants. Not that they would keep me there, just I wouldn't be able to. I'm only 35 you know to young to just waste away in the bed. I decided to take the implants."

Kendall pauses and stares down at his hands. "I just wanted to go back to my old life. Hard to do. I'm alot heavier than I used to be all that metal you know. You wouldn't think weight would be an issue but it is, simple stuff like getting shoes with stronger soles. I tried ignoring the implants, just doing my job, back to business. They gave me an instruction manual. Can you imagine, an instructional manual on my legs," he chuckles out, "Occasionally the implants need adjustments, I have to keep going back in. I can't even open a beer without shattering the glass. I'll never be what I was before, the person I was before. I usually just keep to myself. Leave everyone alone and expect them to do the same. If I don't get close, I figure I can't hurt anyone if I don't get calibrated and accidentally kick through a wall."

"The weird part is they gave me more than I needed. I don't need to run 110 miles an hour, but apparently I can. I don't need a motion sensor, or amplified hearing but I have it, atleast I didn't think I needed it, until the guy who was so generous to give me all this asked me for help. It's almost like they planned it the whole time."

"Anyway, I know its alot to take in, but we seem to be heading somewhere and I'm not sure if I'm ready to go there, or that you would even want to if you know about me. Maybe I'm wrong and we're just on our way to being friends, then you should still know what your dealing with."

Kendall waves over the waiter and asks for a double scotch as he waits for Mei to answer. He sits back and looks at her giving her time to process.

When the waiter is there Mei also asks for a double Sambuca Paralyzer knowing full well what it will do. But he is right it is a lot of information to take in at once. When it arrives she drinks it down and says to bring another one in 5 minutes. After the waiter leaves with her first drink she literally drinks half down to steel herself for the next point.

Save vs pain/insanity - [dice=20] - Nice natural so this will be pulled off.

While still staying silent and to prove a point especially now that she has some liquor in her system. She grabs her knife and checks to make sure no one is looking and cuts herself fairly deeply. And then looks up to Kendall so he can see how fast it heals on her.

Strike - [dice=20+4] = 20

"You see with me Kendall I can be hurt, but because of my physiology I can heal." And with that she downs the drink completely to cover the momentary pain she is feeling. She realizes that it was probably not the smartest way of doing it but wants him to know that she is not afraid of being hurt physically.

[Dome]

Kendall watches her actions. He tries to stop her when she takes out the knife, "Mei what are you..."

He looks at her for a moment like she is crazy as he watches her heal. He looks her in the eye and says, "you know the whole getting hurt thing wasn't really the point of my monologue there."

"No it was not, but what it was is an opening of yourself to me to show me that you are in pain in one way or another. You said one of the reasons you did not want to get close to anyone is because a fear of hurting them, well I just showed you that yes I can be hurt, but I also heal, really, really fast. And if you had not guessed I am the eternal optimist."

Still looking at him directly in the eye, even as she feels the alcohol hitting her system, but at least it is cancelling the crappy feeling that is coming along quickly as well.

"I mean we have all had our valleys in life and yet we survive hopefully coming out stronger then before. I mean in your case it was literal but still you are alive. And now you met someone that wants to get to know you that is resistant to what you can dish out. I mean it is not getting worse, unless meeting me is not exactly a good thing in your books?" She waits for his response back.

[Dome]

"Why would meeting you be a bad thing, your gorgeous. But your also what 22, 23 why would you want to be around me? Besides I haven't been all that optimistic and sociable lately."

[sasqaricious]

"Then perhaps I am your optimisticy charm. Sorry one mother was big into fate and all that fun stuff. My other mom was the more down to earth one. But yah perhaps there is more to it then meets the eye. I blame Daveris, I know it, she is secretly working voodoo on it!" She says with a big grin as one could tell she is probably a little buzzed already.

"Oh I realize I did not answer your question, I am 21 years old, and I guess I am kinda cute not that I have ever seen evidence of it really in the past. And I can help you be more sociable if you would like." Happy as the second drink arrives.

[Dome]

Kendall looks at her and gets an amused look on his face, "I doubt Devaris did voodoo on you. Maybe you shouldn't, I mean maybe you had enough. I can tell your getting a little tipsy, and come on your not just cute. There is no way you don't know how pretty you are."

After a pause and a sip from his drink, "Do I need to meet anyone else besides you? There's Devaris too, the other people I have met lately weren't to nice."

[sasqaricious]

"You think I am pretty, that is sooo nice. No, no one asked me to prom or out on the date. My mothers said they were just intimidated by me. And when I got to performing arts school I was too busy to party and other things so I just kept at work ignoring all social things and like others in the school I wanted to have a backup other then just my performance, hence the communications part. Heck if worse comes down to it I could always be a translator. But I am getting off topic. So you really think I am pretty then." She babbles on taking sips of her drink instead of full on gulps.

"Actually truth be known, even if it is not a date, this is the closest thing I have ever had to a date." The last part kinda depresses her.

[Dome]

"Your mom was probably right. I think your pretty. Very pretty, and men were probably afraid they weren't in your league. I know I don't think I am. That's why I gotta ask, why me. You can be with anyone."

[sasqaricious]

"What is wrong with you. I mean you say I sell myself short but there is nothing wrong with you. I mean you look good. And you are the first person I have ever met that has at least some form of abilities. You are nice to me. You actually talk to me. You have not looked down to me. What else could there be." Still sipping at her drink. "I mean me as a girl and maybe not all girls but some girls I know just want even a modicum of attention payed to them, I mean right now you make me feel good!"
