Ch 10: Not all Mad Scientists Wear Labcoats Pt2

Sarah nods at Eleutheroi with a sombre look on her face before moving to go and get herself some body armour and get some weapons.

Coop scratched his head, picking a ball and chain off the wall , before putting it back. " I don't know how to use any of this stuff," he sputtered," A hunting rifle, sure or gramps scattergun. but these things...," he picked off war club and looked at it, " I'm just as likely to hurt myself or one of us if I need to use it." He looked at Eleutheroi, then Sarah," I'm gonna need a crash course."

Coop saw a heavy-feeling rifle land in his hands. "We think of everything." Says Eleutheroi, pocketting a few more weapons. "Oh! You stocked up on Sponge bombs? Bonus." He put a few odd-looking sponges in his satchel, then started putting on armour."

Botufa merely sighed. "You and your Guild will bleed us dry. And not a penny for it."

"Secrecy is enough, for now." Eleutheroi said absently. "The city still doesn't even know about Sarah." Seeing her off in her own world, he waves her hand. "You've barely said two words. By now, you're promising your undying love to your Zachikins."

----------Meanwhile,

Bianca found herself in the pyramid with the ancient dragon, as he calmy waited for her to prepare the extra protection symbols. "Will you need help?" he asks her.

She smiles, "I've read dragons know all kinds of magic. Do you know how to make a Circle of Protection from Magic? It'd probably be better if I didn't make both the circle and the ward.... since they'll both require quite a bit of blood." She digs out a piece of paper and some bee's wax, looking at the dragon curiously to hear the answer to her question.

"It might make a difference." Dragon says, taking the implements. "Remeber you want to defend against offensive magic, not just any magic." He draws a new symbol for her to use. "Something like this, yes?" The symbol looks like something she had heard of, but not had a chance to review before.

[dakota]

Coop hefted the magical firearm and smirked. " Now this is more like it." He slung it over his shoulder, and finally decided on what looked sort of like a sledgehammer and picked that up as well. " This should be easy enough if need be."

He glanced up at Eleutheroi's teasing Sara, and immediately moved to her side. " Back off and cut her some slack, El." He said in a protective manner. " And who cares which one of us the city thinks is the slayer. We're a team, plain and simple."

[Mierin]

Sarah looks embarrassed and blushes a little at Eleutheroi's teasing. "Sorry," she says "I was just preparing for what's about to happen in my head." Sarah weakly smiles at Coop as he comes over to defend her, nodding. "We are a team." She thinks to herself 'Even if the city doesn't think I can do it on my own'

Coop put his arm around Sarah's shoulder, adding cockily," And a damned good one too." With the rifle slung over his shoulder, he held up the hammer with his other hand. " hopefully we don't have to use this stuff."

"We're calling in a small brigade of army, and every capable wizard we know, and you don't think there'll be violence?" Eleutheroi says, with a smirk.

The dragon looked at Bianca's note. "Hmmm. Yes, but here." He changed one of the symbols with a wave of his hand. "We modify this symbol so that only magics that pertain to the city's energy source will work." Handing the paper back, he adds. "It's a rare symbol. When the pyramid was built, the Ioratates clan wanted such a symbol, but by the time it was ready, there appeared to be no need for it."

Bianca stares at the symbol in concentration. "Hmm. Offensive magic," she mutters, "yes." She memorizes the symbol for later study, if there is a later.

She ponders for a moment, "If someone gets past the army outside, they probably won't use brute force... unless they bring an army of their own they will likely use a more cunning trick."

"If they do get in here after getting past an army outside, and we restrict most magic in here.... I guess that would mean they would need something cunning out there and brute force in here." She looks away for a moment, her expression hard to read.

She goes ahead and completes the circle as the dragon suggests, though she doesn't charge it just yet, still mulling it over in her mind. The dragon's logic is seamless, yet she has a nagging doubt for some reason. "Ready, we can activate this circle as soon as any intruder is detected."

"Is everyone who is going to be in here arriving soon? I'd prefer to set the ward after everyone is inside to avoid anyone setting it off accidentally. I don't think anyone chosen for this chamber would set if off, but it is possible to trigger them by disturbing them."

[dakota]

" I'm trying to be optimistic." Coop replied. " I hope we don't have to use them alot, but I know we'll have to defend ourselves at some point."

[Mierin]

Sarah nods at Coop quietly as she says "That is the most likely case, so we should be ready for anything."

[Renekin Skywalker]

Bianca -

Even as she asked, a Dwarf arrived with Torbias. "Well. Alright. Let's do this. You want a larger maze?" Grunts the Dwarf to Tobrias, looking it over. "Thought your kind could do this."

"The clan responsible has long since passed into obscurity, and left a signature preventing easy changes. One such prevention included searching out specific people." Tobrias answered. "Here are Shisstheorn, master of the West Guild, and Bianca, one of our resident librarians.."

Coop and Sarah -

"Alright. Geared up?" Eleutheroi confirmed. "Then, let's meet at the staging area."

A few seconds later, the eight of them appeared amongst about a dozen men and women, some seemingly ancient. "Oh, Moe!" Eleutheroi said, noting the drummer was still with them. "You tagged along."

Moe nodded. "Like I'm going to be late for this." He said.
