The path back to the village was thankfully clear and uneventful, with only the thickening columns of smoke on the breeze to distract the group. As they neared, the roars of Koor's rage echoed in the distance, seemingly head away from their approach. The young soldier at one point began to groan slightly, but a solid thunk against a tree by Shepherd silenced him quickly.
As they entered the remains of the village, the smoke of the gutted buildings became fairly heavy, their MDC shells exposed. A few bodies were scattered on the ground, some badly burned, others simply shot. Dyson recognized one of them as Keith, the old man he'd spoken during their first visit. Thankfully, none of the deceased were children. Shepherd dropped the prisoner and ran to one of the houses, shouting as he entered. " LYNA! DARYN!" His fear in his voice echoing in the empty dwelling. After a moment, he reappeared on the remains of the doorstep, his face blackened from the smoke, but it couldn't hide the rage in his eyes as he unslung his rifle as he choked from a bit too much smoke. He started to say something, but (OOC- cue the Sixth Sense ) was drowned out by the twin staccato of concealed railguns acrossed the village, the muzzle flashes appearing as starbursts from within the darkened ruins of a pair of other houses.

*Mariana's player started to get a headache, though not in sympathy to hers... as they get into town, she silently takes in the smoking mess, and the dead bodies... As Shep dropped the kid, Mariana stood next to the prisoner, weapon at the ready. At the gunfire, she tossed the two packs she was carrying into the protected area of a house, then draggedf the kid there.*
"Dyson, Ellie! Over here! Mendez, keep Shep from charging!" *Mariana pulled out the kid's grenade launcher, and shoots a round into the dirt between them and the gunners to allow for cover (ie, a big dirt cloud).*

Before Mariana even speaks of taking cover Ellie put up a TK force field around Shep and she takes cover behind a building (or anything else between her and the guns). "Incoming!" she shots as she runs for her cover. She takes the rifle off her back and checks her clip and keeps it at the ready.

As soon as Dyson entered the village and saw its devastated condition he started trying to get his bearings. " Where was that mountaineer!" he says harshly under his breath, putting down his rage at what happened here, and trying not to think about the children who threw rocks at him before or the still cursably recognizable body that was Keith.
Dyson's thoughts are shattered by the thunder of the rail guns. He dives to the ground with a thud and rolls to his left trying the get behind any cover available in that direction.
OOC: When Dyson gets to cover, if any, he will assess the positions of the squad and the snipers, and if he remembers where the mountaineer he saw earlier is.
Possible action 1. If he is separated from the rest of the squad and near the mountaineer with a line of cover between him and it he will make a run for it.
Possible action 2. If Dyson ended up close to Sgt. Smith then he will get behind cover near her and take one shot at the rail gun emplacement ( roll=7+3 aimed+1 scope=11, damage= 28 MDC). Dyson will tell also tell Smith or Rhys where the mountaineer is if he can, and say " I don't know if there is a way to get a mountaineer out of here, but it would be worth it to have an armored roof over us and some speed."

Rhys double timed it up the path that lead towards westvale that he found. Moving as fast as he could and remain cautious. At the sound of the railguns he listens closely to pinpoint them.

(Tag Dak ) The mountaineer is on the opposite side of the village and out of sight. There is some cover behind houses. Dyson's shot draws the attention of one of the rail gun emplacements, which sweeps acrossed the opening between the buildings after a breif pause , spraying up debris with it's fire as it tries to zero in on Dyson, (roll to hit = 5, -3 for cover ) narrowly missing him as it stitched up the building he hid behind. The other continued it's ausault on Shep's position, the front of Lyna's house disappearing in a cloud of dust under the barrage. (tag - any)

Rhys Zeros in on the sound of the railgun nearest to him and starts moving towards it's position as stealthily and quietly as possible.

*amidst all the weapons fire, but behind her own barrier, Mariana checks to make sure her little acquisition is still unconcscious. That being done, she'll peer around to see what's up. (Where did Dyson end up?)*

The twin rail guns continue their ausault, hammering away at the squad's chosen cover as Shep's hate filled voice came over the radio. " Dammit! Ellie you did this, didn't you? Everytime I try to return fire, I hit some ... barrier right in front of me."
Rhys stealthy approach went unnoticed by the gun emplacements, but a lace of incoming laser fire arced across the sky from one of the barn lofts (roll to hit = 13, damage 3d6 = 8, you're lucky) struck him in the shoulder, nearly spinning him around as it caught him completely by surprise. Fortunately for him, the rail gunners are too preoccupied to change targets.
The prisoner hasn't moved since shep's bouncing his head off a tree, and a trickle of blood has began to ooze from his nose.
(OOC- as for where Dyson, Ellie and the Colonel ended up, Dyson ended up near Smith( see his option #2 in his post). Ellie made it to cover behind one of the houses (Jon's choice which), and let's say Mendez made it to safety behind the other house (Cabal can cover it when he gets up to speed).)

*Damn Shep, ruined my toy grumps Mariana as she rolls the kid over to let the blood bleed out instead of down his throat* "Make sure he doesn't move." *She says to Dyson*
*Then, on the radio, and a loudish voice to be heard.* "Shep, get yourself to cover. Then Ellie can stop shielding you. And this isn't a polite suggestion. Move."

Over another burst from the rail gun, Shep snapped back." What the hell do you think I'm doing in here, playing hide and Ugh... ( long pause), never mind it just went down anyways. "
The report of Shep's C-14s grenade launcher over the stutter of the rail guns and the grenade exploded inside the house his assailant was using as a nest, causing the rail gun to go silent. " Ha! that'll fix them." " Shep announced with hatfuilled triumph, but his tone sank as he continued." Or not!"
The rail gun sang back to life, and it was accompanied by a brighter flash from another window as some sort of missile streaked into the side of Lyna's house. The impact proved to be too much, and the house collapsed in on it's self.
There was no reply over the radio as both rail guns now turned their full attention to keeping the squad pinned down.

OOC: I don't know if Dyson can see Rhys's attackers, so if he can discount this post.
IC: When Dyson sees Rhys go down he swears viciously, but cuts it off half way through, focuses, and takes aim with his C-27 at the barn where the laser fire originated. Using his limited knowledge of architecture(86% base 45% mechanical engineering, 82% base 63% demolitions) to aim for a load bearing wall or support visible on the barns exterior and fires(Roll=9+3 aimed+1 scope+13, Damage= 25 MDC). OOC: Dakota, roughly how far away is the nearest rail gun emplacement from Dyson? And how close are we to that hydro-electric power plant we saw before?

" Nice shooting, Dyson." The colonel complimented over the radio as he ducked away from another round of fire from the attackers. The wall beneath the barn's loft buckled from the blast. Though it did not collapse, it obviously made the sniper rethink his location as no additional shots lanced out." Now try to give Sgt. O'Neill some cover to get out of there. Shepherd will have to fend for himself for the time being." OOC: Dakota, roughly how far away is the nearest rail gun emplacement from Dyson? And how close are we to that hydro-electric power plant we saw before? both gun nests are roughly 200 to 300 ft away. The hydro plant is roughly 3 or 4 times that distance. And you don't have to worry about me slapping any fingers for taking a little initiative, I've been trying to encourage it. OOC- I'll be keeping Mendez active for a few days since Cabal is AFK (and thanks for the heads up)
