Chapter 73: Coast to Coast

It had certainly been the least exciting thing that had happened since the group had been brought together, but that was not a bad thing as the government Lear taxied to a halt at an unmarked runway at Miami International. Ryne and dmitri had not talked much on the flight as reassignment of Brian to a Homeland Security think tank and Sharon being recalled home by her government had hamstringed the new team. But it was Cody's late night departure without a word to any one but Ryne that seemed to put the last nail in the coffin, and he had stayed tight lipped about Brutal's decision except to say he needed to find himself.

As the Lear came to a halt, the humidity of the florida air washed over the thrreesome as the disembarked along with Ryne and Dmitri. Waiting for them was Dylin MacColter, or Mac as he preferred, the director of the project along with a blonde woman Gabe, Syl or Calvin did not recognize. Mac spoke up, " I'm sorry to have to ask you to relocate so soon, but Ryne has explained in great detail your difficulties and we both agreed that something had to be adjusted. As of now, the three of you will be reassigned to the team here in Miami. They would have been here to greet you themselves, but they have an op in progress I'm told, and it is not fair to dump you in without introductions."

Ryne looked at the trio and swallowed, " Look, I warned everyone I wasn't that great at leading when we tried this. And I'm only good at brute force. Calvin, you're already a better leader than I could be, and you'll work well with Isamu and Alice, the leaders here. Gabe, Sylwia, keep him out of trouble." The big man offered a handshake to each.

Mac looked at the young woman with him, " Siobhan, do you think you can do the same with Ryne?"

"I'm pretty fast on my feet." The blonde replied as she walked over to Ryne and Dmitri, pulling a suitcase. She looked at the new arrivals with a wink, " Do yourselves a favour and watch out for Jason and his big mouth. Other than that, they are a pretty good bunch of people."

Ryne took her bag with ease," Ready to go?"

Dmitri opened a gateway as Siobhan asked, " Where are we headed?"

"I hope you brought a parka" Was all Ryne answered as the three of them disappeared through the portal and it closed up behind them.

A crew was unloading the team members' belongings and putting them in the back of an odd SUV as Dylin smiled, " So, do we have some questions or just get underway?"

[Paladin]

Calvin shakes Ryne's hand. "You did a better job than you think you did. But I'll do my best."

After Dylin loads up their luggage, Calvin just shrugs. "I think I'm just going to play it by ear for now. I'll get the lay of the land when we get settled in." He smiles, and gets into the SUV.

"I actually liked my home too bad it not going be used now. But that ok sell and buy place down here I guess." Sylwia says as she also floats over to the vehicle getting ready to head out. "It be certainly nicer and more sun here. Wish almost tanning was possible but is ok."

She pauses before asking, "Can place buy for me so stuff brought from Seattle...no wait, must work on English. Is it possible to get a place and have my stuff tran...brought here?"

Gabe shakes Ryne's hand telling him "Not your fault man, things just didn't work out well." With a sigh, Gabe starts heading to the vehicle saying "Any questions i have can be answered in the car. I just hope we don't have to move AGAIN. I swear, 3 times in the same month it feels like." He does turn to Sylwia and say "you're getting better at english Syl. Good job."

As they got into the SUV, the trio noticed that it had no tires and instead sat a few inches off the ground. Once the flight crew had their bags loaded in the back, Mac got in the driver's seat , " Things should be much stable here, Gabe, providing you like the beach."

The SUV lifted from the ground and rotated 180 degrees before heading towards the city. "Sylwia, if you have things you would like shipped, Ryne can arrange it, as I believe our agreement is still in place? Unless you would prefer he vacate the lower floor of your home, which is a option of course. These are for you," He reached into the center console and pulled out three packages and handed them to Calvin, " each contains your identification card as part of the Miami based team, band-adio to communicate with the rest of the team, authorized spending account credit card and your keys to the beach house. Now, I'm certain you have questions?"

Sylwia looks at the the gifts and with a moment of confusion before answering, "No I had let slip my mind that he staying so that is goodly then." She then looks at the items and puts her ID card in her pocket and studies the Bandadio. Not having anything pressing at the moment she waits for the rest to see what they ask.

[Paladin]

Calvin pockets the ID card and beach house keys, and eyes the credit card. "What is our monthly stipend anyway? I'm used to sending some home for the parents."

"The card is good for ten thousand, but your actual salary is seventy five thousand a year. Plus your expenses are paid for the most part." Mac replied as they cruised along. " It can be arranged that a portion is paid directly to them if you like, and save you the trouble of having to send it to them."

[ragna]

Looking over the I.D. and the credit card, Gabe says "How bad are the smoking laws here? And is the beach house shared living or..." leaving the question in the air, not really having anything else to ask.

Calvin laughs.  "No, I can take care of it.  I like to imagine their faces when they see my name on the check.  They always thought I only cared about myself.  I wonder if they think I do it out of spite, or if I actually care about them."

Sylwia speaks up finally wondering something, "We can go shopping now maybe. Or we go meet new members of team maybe?" She responds not sure what the pan is at the moment. "Oh we share rooms or rooms each?"

[Paladin]

"I think they're taking us to the residence first, drop off our luggage, get settled in. I doubt we have to share rooms." He sneaks a sly grin at Gabe. "Unless you want to."

Smiling at Cal, Gabe sarcastically replies "Well sure tall dark and handsome, why not? Kidding, I wouldn't be opposed to it, but if there are rules against that then I will abide by them." while thinking to himself :Two can play at that game Cal, and i have not problems messing with other peoples heads.:

Calvin laughs, loud and deep. Shaking his head, he composes himself. "We'll played, sir. Well played."

"Well, we don't encourage relationships, but there are several team members that have in fact become romantically involved." Mac admitted. " In fact one of the team leaders Isamu is on leave because another team member Ashley took him home to meet her family. Rooming is rather unique. Each room is actually two bedrooms separated by a common living space. I should correct myself a bit, we refer to it as the beach house, but it was once the mansion owned by a well to do drug dealer, so it is a rather impressive facility. You will have time to settle in before you are expected to partake in any team actions, unless you choose to."
