At first, Vivian is a little confused and wonders why the gunmen are biting down. Then she realizes what they are doing and reflexively shoots the gunman who had just spoken in the foot. She hopes that the pain will cause the man to cry out and that he wouldn't bite down anymore.

The behavior unusual and strange to anyone else, Rex knows it's not good, reacts by socking the one nearest him square in the jaw.

Lex saw the first try to bite down, and it reminded him of stories about soldiers behind enemy lines doing something similar to avoid capture, so he did the first thing he could think of to try to prevent it, and smashed the man across the lower jaw with his pistol

Rex and Lex's targets manage to evade as they crumple to the ground, but Vivian hits her target, driving the arrow through his foot. He curses the sky, as a hollow tooth tumbles from his mouth.
"Bloody Hell." is all the Duchess can say as the men collapse.

Rex picks up the tooth from the ground, securing it from the prisoner, and taking the opportunity to examine it.

Rex, it's clearly a quick-releasing cyanide variant - nasty, but quick.

Vivian isn't glad that two of the men were successful in evading their questioning, but she is glad that was was able to stop one of them from doing so. Quickly drawing another arrow, Vivian now realizes that threatening to kill the last man probably wouldn't help given what just happened. "Tell us what we want to know." she says in a commanding voice.

"Good job, kiddo." Lex said, give Vivian a quick nod. "Anyone heard of these folk?" He asked, looking at the men on the ground.

Rex has heard of a scorpion based doomsday cult located in South America, but nothing specific.
Emerging from the brush, Matt is grinning as he drags in a hog-tied gunman. "Grandpa's gonna be happy to hear I finally got to use that trick. Anyone want to question this one?"
"Never heard of them." The Duchess responded.
"What you want to know? Oh, I doubt you want to know it. Go, enjoy your days. Make merry, for our time is nearly done." The man deprived of his chance at suicide answered Vivian.

Vivian grins at Lex and Rex's words, obviously pleased by their words. Rearranging her face into a more serious expression, Vivian replies to the lone surviving gunman, "I want to understand what you're talking about. Why is our time nearly done? Who is this Society of the Silver Scorpion?"

The surviving gunman right back. "We are the ambassadors of Armageddon. The Society prepares for the end, and we know what is coming, and have accepted death. What will you do to me?"
Matt sighs. "Anyone want to get him to talk sense or shut up? Either will do mighty fine at this point."

"All I know is a doomsday cult in South America. When you travel, you find reading a way to pass the time. I'm just taking a leap of faith on this, that world eater business, they might know about it, to some degree, or at least a similar 'end of the world' prophecy."

"A bunch of suicidal doomsayers? Dutchess, where did you recruit your hired help?" He turned, scowling at her.

The Duchess scowls back. "I had no bloody idea! They had impeccable references!"
Matt interjected. "Might I suggest we put off the blame until we've ensured the non-criminal crew is safe?"
