Vivian shrugs when Rex asks her if she could train someone, "I guess. I've never tried before. Lex also helped train me, so he might be better at it." Vivian then looks confused, wondering what everyone else is looking at and tries to spot it herself.

Vivian can see the shadows, and that they are...objects - not people, but some kind of devices that are not immediately apparent.
The Duchess responds to Rex. "What do you mean?"

Lex was still busy trying to figure out the shadows, so much so he paid little attention to Viv and Rex chatting. He stood facing the direction of the setting sun, then walked forward so he was just out of the light causing the odd shadow

Vivian is a bit confused as she tells the group "The shadows aren't people. They're objects." Vivian squints, as she adds, "but I can't tell exactly what they are."

The group can now make it out - they are mostly transparent, but each pyramid has seven spires made out of something...semi-transparent, almost like a crystal. It is a material you've never seen before.

Vivian can see that the spires are slowly rotating.
The Duchess grins. "We must get a close look at these items. Let's move closer." She climbs the stairs of a ziggurat, looking for nearest spire.
