Chapter One: The Hunt Begins...

Patriot

Swinging between the buildings, Patriot had to remind himself that the sight of costumed person swinging by thin strands had to be a common sight in this city. He realized that he'd have to do something spectacular to get people's attention. He began scanning the streets looking for anything and felt a little reminiscent of his days in New York when this was his job. Putting himself out there for everyone to see so that the public would know that the government was acting to take care of things at home like they were abroad.

Scanning the streets, he saw that he was getting closer to the mutant district by the run down buildings and streets. He grimaced slightly that people would be treated in this way simply because they were different. Finding a tall building, he swung up to the roof and perched on the corner as he looked down over the streets below.

She smiles at Shroud, "He is gung-ho over the assignment I just gave everyone. That and there is disagreement over tactics and attitudes." She shrugs, as if say whatareyougonnado, and continues lowering her voice. "The assignment was one he will like I'm sure- to save the life of a mutant, preferably one in the underground. Its got to be something we can claim though, attacking from long distance or from the shadows would be insufficient."

"I'm not sure that going now, by himself, is the best strategy. Still, there is no time like the present. But unless you are eager to get out there and take a bullet for someone, we have other things to discuss."

"Lets talk shop. Two basic questions, the first is in regards to the snipers for the Labyrinth. Would you position them inside or outside the Labyrinth? And why?"

"And the second question: there are some people who are basically immune to bullets. Other than having different surprises prepared further in, what are some things a sniper could do about a bulletproof or intangible adversary?"

*has paid for her bit and then stops and looks over at another section. 'oh .. well i gues i'm not done just yet then .. can you hold those bags behind the counter there for me? .. thanks ..'

*Jeckle then heads over and does a second sweep of the store, picking up afew other things and several spray cans of stuff.

" If you had said something, we could have staged the whole rescue idea." Khris shrugged with a sigh. " He's a big boy and knows to call you if he needs help." He scratched his head. " Snipers where? Oh right, that part of town. If you truly wanted to set up a sniper screen, you'd go with both positioned in overlaping lines of attack.That way if someone managed to slip by one line, the next could deal with it. Saw it done once in Madrid. Bloody effective."

He scratched his chin a moment as he thought about the second question before answering. " Besides backup, a grenade launcher loaded with gas canisters so long as they breath. Never seen one, but I've heard that there's a couple arms dealers that claim to be able to supply lasers. They'd be expensive, but not out of this Minotaur bloke's price range. Then again they might go with old fashioned booby traps and explosives. I doubt any of them care about collateral damage."

She nods at Shroud's assessment. "Our team is vulnerable to firearms of course, still I like get a good idea of the other things we might face. Hopefully we can get more information tonight." She digs her phone out of her pocket and looks at the time. "This hasn't taken very long, we still have some time before our next meeting. Perhaps we should ask Jeckle where she would like to assemble things."

*finally stands in line once again to pay for this second allotment of stuff with cash. 'my other bags back there please? .. thanks

Dante waits outside leaning against the car. He reaches into his pocket and grabs his cell phone. Focusing for a moment he sends a message to Roga

'Sorry about the formality of that meeting, not my idea. Do you have any info that may be a bit more personal for me? Anything on my families business?

We will make time to catch up soon, promise.'

Khris sighed at the prospect of more idle time, and almost envied Patriot and his side project. Then he came up with an idea. " If you want to know how good there security is, the best way to do it is with a probe. It might tip our hand what we're doing here if I get caught, but it's a place to start." He winked at Tiger, " And you know I'm the best one for the job."

"One side project at a time," she grins. "I want to hear what Tribe has to say before we make any more moves. If you really can't stand waiting any longer, you can catch up to Patriot."

"I'd really like to go over the game plan with the Magician and Cerebrum before we go to our next meeting, and I'm sure the things Jeckle bought require some assembly, so if anyone is going to watch Patriot's back, it would need to be you."

"Did you have any questions about our meeting with Roga?"

" Lap dog can take care of himself. " Khris replied, " besides I get the impression I'm not the guy he wants around right now. I can hang around and help out I guess." He shrugged and tucked his hands in his pockets. " You're the boss kitty," he smirked," so if it concerns me, you'll tell me."

*exits the hardware store and spots Tiger and Shroud together and pauses to ask one question. "hey, one question boss. this place have surveillance satellites to observe the buildings? .. could be helpful to have a 3-d of the city in the comms to get a solid read on body signatures" *that said, Jeckle continues on towards the car, once again lost in circuits and connections

She listens to Jeckle. Tiger thinks about it for a few seconds and concludes that the Centurians probably have access to much better satellites than she could get on short notice. And, the Labyrinth was likely to have parts obsured from the sky.

"Well," Tiger says to Shroud, "I wish we had gotten some crucial piece of info. I'm starting to think Tribe might be our only realistic link to get in. Everything else sounds like such a long shot." She smiles, "Lets talk to Cerebrum and the Magician."

She heads over to Dante, motioning for the Magician to join them, when Cerebrum is off the phone, Tiger confirms. "I'll go in first tonight, you two follow me and observe from a distance. Back me up. Blend in, hit on girls. If things go bad, I will likely leave out a side or back door. Exercise good judgement. If I'm not pinned down, there is no need to help me out. If the situation is difficult, retreat and regroup with the rest of the team outside. Questions? Ideas for topics of discussion with Tribe?" She smiles, tonights meeting was a simple as they come, yet it never hurt to be prepared.

" If Patriot's little jaunt turn out to be a bust, we could always set up a fake rescue. I'm sure some of the underground members have contracts on them that we could use to our advantage." Khris suggested as they walked over to Dante. as Tiger talked to the pair of them, he smirked as he watched Jeckle lost in her bags of toys. " Hope you've been practicing. We get to have another game of laser tag here shortly while everyone plays meet and greet."

*Jeckle is busy making sure she has all the things she currently needs for the first batch of toys and is hardly aware of anything else about her. she pauses, numbers and other notations in the mind stop as she responds with a simple 'huh? .. what? .. no Sat-links? ... how about a toy airplane with a mini cam. can fix them up and then try and get the info compiled that way? or I could just walk up and say 'hey, i need to talk to the head dude, so I'm coming in ... '

*looks almost pensive for a bit and wonders if any of her brother's contacts traveled up here? or hid out up here? then shrugs and goes back to mental sorting.

"I could keep a telepathic link with you while your in there. You would just have to think you need help, and I will know it. Just don't let your mind wander, I will pick that up to," he says with a small mischievous smirk.
