Start out working for the Sentinel government. As to where it goes, it depends on whether everyone ends up feeling like they are working for the good guys or the bad guys.

Yeah, I'm in my scout sniper/heavy weapon guy. Silverback and Cyclone. He's kind of the Barrett shooter in the game. Can his nickname be "God?"

You'll have to take up the nickname with the rest of the group. I was out of pocket today and will be tomorrow so I won't be able to do much of the background info until friday at the earliest.

I'm a fan of the Navy Seal movie...sure "Dane". just don't go dieing up in some dirty apartment on us. Think I have a concept character..You recall the World books in Robotech? one had a a plot to take over the Mancheria and African quadrant? -Was thinking of being the child of the family line of the general who was going to take over africa. -A member of the old Bureau Six oraginzation...since they could still have some sort operation going on. Probably with reminents of the G.M.P. -The other wierd idea was to be a member/leader of the lost (that group in the Africa World book) -Witht the mention of Navy Seals..LTJG Dale Hawkins and a pistol-gripped Remington 870 Police Magnum shotgun as his backup weapon and door breach gun (with slap/HE rounds). This shotgun has the stock removed and is fitted with a 12.5" barrel.

I'll look up those two stories later. The problem I see with that character concept is not being flagged when trying to get a clearance level. Any operators must be able to pass a Top Secret clearance vetting. Though with the appropriate backstory (or a damn good cover story, lol) it could work. And I'm working on some nice (and quasi-realistic weapons. I'm a bit of a gun and tech nut, so there'll be some nice toys to play with!

Hmmm to be tech savvy and be affiliated with th resistance I had another notion... An arms dealer tha sells to the resistance and tha should be good enough to be on there trusted list. a pistol-gripped Remington 870 Police Magnum shotgun will be his preffered back up still though.

Sounds way more like a CIA type liaison at most. Not saying it isn't a possibility, I'm just a bit iffy on it. This is geared toward a bunch of hard bitten special forces operators. Having the appropriate training to do other things would for one seriously impact his combat effectiveness and for another make him an "outsider" on the team.

You get a couple of MOS, which are military occupational specialties. A freedom fighter is not a bad idea. This would be like indigenous forces. Something like an arms dealer? Well, given the reality of the invid occupation, he would likely be a scavenger that finds crashed ships, salvages what he can, and sells it for barterable goods. This team is a direct action teams, needing a quick response, heavy weapons and nasty attitudes. An undercover op is not a bad idea, but most of our enemies are giants, slugs, or Orko from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

A good business man knows his own goods. For instance Destro was by no means ineffective in a fight and he was an arms dealer. and who said I'd be spook? Mecha Pirate/Arms dealer would not a be 'gimpy'. and I expect when the invid and Sentinels hit some would be targeting or working with the Sentinels as well.
With even three skill paccks I can get Mecha and Arms Dealer + whatever the third is to bolster. But if a Mehca pirate is too gimpy I can use one the NPC's or whatever toon is needed for the squad..not too picky.

It's not that he would just be too gimpy. Remember we are talking about a special ops team. Heck, IRL I almost lost my Secret clearance because my credit score was too bad. To get into a unit, not only do you have to be squeaky clean, but so do most of your family. An arms dealer (unless it was a cover) would not even get into the running. Would he end up working for the Sentinel Government, very possibly. They would probably accept him with open arms. Just not into a spec ops unit. I could certainly see them working with someone like that, but it would be a case by case basis.
And remember, there are human enemies too. Not everyone is willing to give up their power or knuckle under to the sentinel government. Their are other nations along with terrorist/freedom fighters (depending on who you side with) that are fighting against the Sentinel Government. Someone who the brass would look at as "a person looking out for number one" would be a severe security risk.
On a separate note, I'm almost done with the MOS's and will have them up shortly. Let me know if there is one you believe I should have. I'll figure it out. Or you can submit it to me, each has 15 skills available.

And I'm thinking that "security Risk" can probably go places some folks can't. Again your assuming something I haven't even stated. Did I say he was looking out JUDST for himself? NOOOO.
the idea was a Arms Dealer who sided with and offered to help there covert ops division of his choice and FOR them not himself. But since you seem to have problem...forget the Arms Dealer..I thought it might be fun to be Destro for a bit. I'll think something else up.

I know you didn't say that, I'm just looking at it from the brass' viewpoint. Really I see that as an excellent NPC and could be a PC except he wouldn't end up on some missions. Say for instance an asteroid base used be Zentraedi pirates. As a GM I just couldn't see him being sent on that sort of mission. And I certainly don't want to tell you that your character has to sit out certain things. All in all, it's an excellent character concept, and for the first mission, one that would fit in perfectly. If you want to look at it, a CIA or better DIA operative, would certainly work no matter what mission.

Nothing stopping him form being an arms daeler/Weapons tech and Siding with a government force. And for sake of game I don't see why a master weapons smith (and part time Mecha pirate) wouldn't fit most missions. Even on ones he "suposedly" sits out I can work on the teams new toys and repair the gear. there is more to a team than just the guys on the field. Unless you don't give xp for skill use. some GM's don't from what I hear. Most do though. he should Still get xp.
Besides a tech specialist/some basic chemisrty (Weapons engineering has that) with some tactical skills could be useful. Was going to focus on explosives, handguns and weapons tech. the only real espionage skills would have been those directly related to Arms dealer business (Black market) and a few Mecha skills learned from his days as a High Tech bandit (Mecha paticularly).
Depending on timeline it could Zentraedi, Sentinels, Southern Cross or EBSIS. and before you say trust issue again..
In deserate times, you turn to those who can be of use. and sometimes tha means trusting a few people you wouldn't normaly..like say the guy you've been buying guns from for the last few years. Infact you could use the Arms dealer business as a cover...That might be a nice twist. but I do have another notion working.
I just have a few questions.
-Will you allow a version of Sniper for handguns?
-What is EBSIS status? (so I can ask if connections there would be Viable.)
and
-What is the situation in South America? Is mendoza's private army system still going on? Are there reminets of still active? (thinking if the old Zent bases there are still intact or ships still unlootedd they may be a nice place to hit for stuff to use.
