I just can't see that character being a trusted and respected member of a special operations unit. It is a great character concept, please don't get me wrong. And if the team ever decides it's working for the bad guys and goes rogue, would completely fit in. Just not now. He would be someone that the CIA (or the Sentinel version) would work with. Someone that the team might hook up with for a mission, but not every one.
Sniper could be used with handguns in very specific circumstances. It would have to have a scope, you would have to aim, pretty much what you would do and have to have with a sniper rifle. If you have a Thompson Contender and the Sniper skill, you could certainly use it.
The EBSIS is still around and one of the strongest contenders against the Sentinel Government. Having connections there could be possible depending on a lot of variable. That in and of itself would get a look from higher up. (Just imagine the paranoia of the Cold War)
South America is similar, but not as bad as Africa. Both are in shambles with many smaller polities in control. The three main Governments dabble there, stir the pot, but no one is committing themselves fully. It would weaken their main fronts too much and leave themselves open for a counter attack. Southeast Asia is much the same. In fact rumors about about those being some of the bases that the Zentraedi pirates operate out of.

How about a marksmanship skill to give an aimed bonuse to handguns?
I just have most of my toons as soldiers and would like to see from a different charater this time.I don't mind play the part of the new guy trying to earn his place. And I don't mind sitting out missions. I could use that time to fix up the teams gear and improve there systems. Plus while researching and aquiring some the stuff I need I'll have my hands full. May need to go in field and get my hands dirty. Since using skills gets xp...its time well used eitherway.
It'll give little story and background and in time he'll EARN that place on the special Ops team. If you don't like the character we kill him off...no will shed tears over it..

Like I said, you can use Sniper for that. I don't restrict the skill to rifles. Anything you can scope, aim, and take you time with a single shot you could use the Sniper skill. Anything more would be superfluous.
I don't mind you having a non special force operator as long as he has a plausible reason to be on a government run spec op team. Like I said before, a DIA agent would be a decent fit. As for the equipment, Spec Ops units have large amounts of support personnel.

K, Was thinking an Arms Dealer version Burkoff From nakita. Weapons skills, Mecha pirate and Armoury type with some combat skills to manage field work. Figure on him starting out training in the field among the wild. in truth he was a front operation and field observer with the role to set up cover for other operatives and military personel. He also provided in field support when drops or pick ups by other means could not be acomplished.
The Mecha pirate history should allow operation with in a mecha squad. And yeah I got plans for that Non-field down time. Sonics, Light and a few specialized explosives are in his to do list.

I would say let's move this conversation to PM, that way any thing "untoward" is away from other players.
EVERYONE: Posted up a new version of the skill list, the education programs, and a MOS change. Shortly I'll post up the character generation process.

Well it seems that out of the five people that said they were interested, three bailed on me and one is not happy that the focus isn't on the mecha. Unless I get a few more players quickly, I'm going to save all the info and ask for this to be deleted as I can't really see running a one man special operations game. Anyone is very welcome to steal ideas and my homebrew rules, I just ask if you do, please offer me a slot in the game. This has too much oppurtunity, at the very least keep me posted so I can watch it.

I'm still in. I have said before I have no problem with adventures outside of mecha, just think we need to have a good mix of mecha and ops. It's ROBOTech afterall. I'm cool on foot, but even still, as I said before, it's just another sci-fi game with out the mecha. Be patient. This is the middle of the week, and we're all dealing with work and lives. I'll start on Remy soon, and will have something up when possible. Mierin said she is in and we will work together on a character. Lwcoyote is also very interested, and somewhat busy. Just be cool, be patient

I like good characters and original ideas (kurff's original one was good just didn't fit the campaign). If you see something you need or think you want, talk to me. For instance I added the Espionage MOS just for Kurff. If you think there is a skill, same thing goes. Lord forbid anyone asks for Gun-Fu or two gun mojo, lol.

So asking to be Neo or Morpheus from Matrix is a little too much? But for the record with practice one can use paired firearms. Just takes alot of practice. Ask Mythbusters and dozens of guys on the internet. But from a game perspective I can see it being problematic, very similar to the Ninja in Ninja's and Super spies. allow one peron then everyone asks for it too.

Don't have to ask anyone about it, I've done it multiple times. The problem lies in trying to hit two targets simultaneously. Other than that you can fire both at the same target, or point both at separate targets and just flip flop your visual focus on them. The way saves you a bit of time swinging around to acquire a new one with a single pistol. The truly serious problem lies in reloading both pistols. Any time you save is more than just wasted trying to reload two at the same time. There is just no easy way to do this.
And no dodging, slowing down, or stopping flying bullets. So you miss out on Matrix characters.

Still stitching together a character. Still interested. I gotta look at your scheme and figure out the best fit, then go from there. Then need to talk to Mierin, and figure out hers.

I'm ready to proceed. We need a character sheet area. Also, how many advanced courses do we get? How many OCC related skills? How many secondary skills?
Remy Ste. Croix will be a cav-scout. His MOS are Cav and ranger. He has a ranger rocker. Ideally, I'd like him to be airborne and air assault qualified.

Five of the Advanced courses, unless someone has a specific reason for more. I always allow people to "buy" extra things, but it comes at a price!
