Khris sighed," Not a good idea, Dante. It'll make sense, let's just put some distance first, okay? Just a bit of timing is all, and it will make sense when i do." He looked around," When do we lift?"

"I didn't say I would, you know I respect you too much for that, I'm just saying if I really wanted to find out I could. Honestly, I'm just glad to be off that base. I was getting cabin fever," he says.
"Bet the other soldiers will be glad I am gone too, can only blow up so many cigarettes in soldiers faces before they start realizing its you," he says shrugging.

Khris couldn't help but smile. "You'll get a reputation if you keep doing stuff like that."

As the plane takes off, with Bel and Dante at the controls, Tiger's voice comes in over the comm. "Circle and get a visual, I wanted all of you to see this."
The massive elevators for the three giant robots open up and the three machines exit the base. The recently added power armor team escorts them like tiny gnats. An EWACs plane and helicopters lift off.
The three pilots take their machines southeast, angled slightly away from the nearest demon. The power armor escort them, along with massive cargo helicopters for support and Tiger in the EWACs plane as a mobile command center.
Dante was right, there is no sense in waiting for the demons to knock at the door to the base. In thirteen days not only will the first demon arrive but it will have crossed half of Poland, requiring millions more people be evacuated. Tiger plots a course that isn't a direct intercept, taking an angle towards the demons to make them change direction to engage - but the three pilots will still meet them on the outskirts of Europe rather than a short march to its heart.
One of the robots waves at the plane that Dante, Bel, and Khris are in. Peacemaker by the looks of the markings.

Khris watched, and suddenly had a knot in his stomach. Why would Tiger send them away just as the kids were deploying? Unless she didn't want them there to talk her out of it. He couldn't help feeling a bit duped. He watched them depart and hoped they would somehow miraculously be ready before they ran into the first of the demons.

Dante shakes his head, "did you know about this Kris? She ships us out and then launches all of the robots? I thought our mission was to slow them down so that they had more time to train? I hope those kids are ready."

As Dante spoke to him, Khris pulled out his phone and sent Tiger a text
Was that always your plan, ship us away so we won't try to stop you from deploying those kids?
He looked up at Dante, not trying to hide he was heart broken. " No, I didn't know. I think that is why she kept me busy with the power armor teams and Foxglove. And they aren't ready, that's why she wanted us out of the way so we couldn't talk her out of it."
He was fuming, but waited for a reply before doing anything.

Bel looks over at her husband and Khris, "If she had waited twenty more minutes, we would be a hundred miles away and we wouldn't have seen it. She wanted us to see the launch."
Tiger's text comes back: The last time you left, the Americans tried to force Dancer to attack early. And we still aren't sure of Foxglove's loyalty. By launching the factions in the UN that want an earlier attack will be satisfied. And we are still a week or more away even if we move directly towards the nearest demon. The plan is to train the pilots in outdoor settings and change directions to delay engaging as long as possible. The kids need training in the real world. Whether we move or not, the nearest demon will get here in thirteen days. Launching takes off the UN and Foxglove pressure, gives them some good training and shortens that timetable by a couple of days at most. Unless you have a better plan?

Thats not the point. Its that you didn't trust me and sent us away.
"And if I hadn't dragged ass, we would be." Khris replied as he finished sending another message. He made no effort to hide he was annoyed. He pulled out his wallet and checked how much was in it, then went through it to see what else was in it. Satisfied, he returned it to his pocket and drummed his fingers on the arm of his seat, waiting on a reply

Dante says, "I know i was the one pushing to move forward, but everyone was pretty adamant it wasn't time."
Dante could tell Kris was upset. Not know about the return text Dante says, "maybe she didn't plan it like this, it just worked out this way. Remember she may be commanding here but isn't there like a whole board of directors that make decisions also? Maybe she got pressured while we were doing mission prep."

Tiger waits a moment before texting back.
Trust you? More than trust, I love you.
She wants to write more, but she can't think of what. Accusations of mistrust are challenging to dispel by text message. And they both have been so busy lately they've hardly seen each other. In truth, she didn't decide to launch the robots until after the meeting. It was in part a gut feeling, based on so many factors all converging in her mind. Keeping the launch a secret until the last moment seemed natural to her. But she had pushed the schedule to make sure Khris and Dante would see it. She wanted them to know how urgent their mission was. How close the kids were to battle.

Khris read the return reply, and didn't know how to respond. He wanted to vent, but her reply completely knocked the wind out of his sails. In fact he had been so upset, he had considered getting off the plane when they landed and walking away, like he would have done in his old life. Instead...., he didn't know now. He looked at Dante and shrugged, " Maybe, look, let's get this over with and we'll find out for sure, right?" he responded on the phone
we'll talk if we get back

Dante nods without turning around as he guides the ship, "sounds like a plan. So lets review the steps. Step 1, lead division one on a suicide mission to slow down one of the demons. Step 2, find some way to survive. And Step 3, get back in time to watch the robots fight the demons. Sounds simple enough. When we land, you take point, Bel and I will follow your lead."

"Sounds good to... wait, follow my lead?" Khris was caught off guard. " Remember last time I led? The first Foxglove disaster? Not a good idea, Dante."

"You have the most field experience. I'm just a worker bee man, I get my orders from higher up," Dante says as he keeps flying.
He shrugs and looks over at Bel, "do you want lead? I will gladly get right behind you," he jokes offering a wink, "if you know what I mean."
