Ch. 8 - Back in Action

[Takota]

Knowing his first plan was to wait in ambush for the sploogs Takota is much less keen on that idea now that the team is all split up. He liked his plan of driving the ATV into the enemy ranks much better than just sitting there waiting for the enemy to walk on top of them since there was no way to cross the bridge before the sploogs get there.

Orders are orders though. Flattened ears and a show of his fangs, hidden by the helmet he is wearing, is the only sign of his displeasure. Trying to fade back into the foliage Takota does his best to blend in and stay hidden as instructed.

As the splugorth party came into view, two of the Monkey like Kittani broke towards the ATV, weapons at the ready. One climbed inside while the other kept watch. After a moment the one inside came out and chittered something in an unknown language. One of the Overlords approached along with three more Kittanis. They were at the base of the vehicle when it blew in horrendous fashion. All six members of the Splugorthian squad flew in different directions and pieces, and then the sky opened up in a blaze of color as energy weapons opened fire.

"Hit 'em, Coalishon. Hit 'em with all yous got!" Came an unknown voice over the comm.

From behind, Scope and Det opened fire on the Kittani, creating a cross fire.

Kain waits for the blast to take out as many of the Splugorth as it can before coming up to a knee and engages the enemy, first with the grenade launcher, then going to work with the rifle. He centers his attacks on the Overlords, than moving to the lesser minions. Taking out the biggest bad guy and then lesser threats.

There was nothing to do now but fire. She opened up on the Splugorth closest to Six, having taken it on herself to protect her commander. She aimed for the thing's head, not knowing if that's where the things or not. She moved on to a new target as soon as one went down.

Takota watches as the ATV explodes. How he wishes he could have drove it into the middle of the whole lot before it blew up like that.

Casting aside his 'If-Only' thoughts he fires with his pistol hoping to take out another of the splugorth.

"Hey Det ... that CI-404 should be fun to play with against these guys." he comments over the com.

[Janxi]

Janxi hefted Samson to her shoulder and engaged the optics. She saw Tori covering Sam, and decided to provide cover for Takota. Even with her hormones dialed back from overdrive, she was fond of the leopard, and wanted to get him back.

The super-rifle was the Rifts equivalent of a Barret in every respect other than range. She aimed for the head of every monster near Takota, moving on to a new target with everyone that went down. Short of anything directly attacking Shep, she would focus on targets near Tacky.

It quickly turned from a firefight to a bloodbath as the mercs and the rest of the team joined in, and the laserfire betrayed that in their efforts to find cover, they had actually ended up in a crude but very effective L-shaped ambush that cut the remaining ranks of the Kittani force in no time.

Less than a minute later, a "Cease fire!"came from the mercs rank, and their fire ended. The fire from the officers and Det and Scope also let up. No one moved right away, then one of the mercs, the juicer, emerged from the merc's ranks with a vibro blade in hand and moved amongst the dead, checking for signs of life.

"Det here, all good. Tak, this thing is awesome." Came a voice over comms, checking in.
"Shep good, No new wounds for a change."
"Like you'd tell us. Scope still in one piece, took a couple light hits, but ok"

[foxx]

"Kain, no hits." Kain continues to survey the area looking for more Splorgies to show up. He wouldn't put it past this group they fragged to be part of a larger group. If they weren't, that just left the mercs to deal with now. It was a good start that they didn't turn their weapons on the CS group and start another fire fight; yet anyway.

Kain hangs back just a little to keep watch and for the others to check in.

[Tori]

"Tori, clear..." she barely breathed.

Tori remained in the weeds, camouflaged and waiting for orders. She just fought on the side of the mercs, but if ordered, she would turn her weapons on them. Right now, they had conflicting interests with the mercs. So far, she waited for Sam's order.

Silently, the little cat shifted positions moving away from where she was, working to flank the mercs. If that juicebox got cute, she'd light him up.

"Takota clear. Det, I want it back soon. I haven't even gotten the chance to really try it out yet." Takota calls in on the com as he makes his way to the dead sploogs.

All but ignoring the juicer he goes about checking to make sure none of the sploogs are alive ... and maybe find something worth picking up while he searches.

"Janxi clear," she said.

She hissed as Takota left cover and began looting bodies. This could turn into another firefight, and he was stealing! Like Tori, she moved around to another position. Anyone that lit up Tacky would get lit up themselves. Her tail swished in irritation, like a mama looking at a naughty kitten.

Det laughed over the comm,"Really? and you're an e-clip light all ready."

"Quit the chatter."Shep snapped over the comm. "Tak, be careful."

From her cover, Janxi watched as the juicer turned his back to her, then hurled his blade towards Takota.

As Takota searched the bodies, he found little of value other than their weaponry (K4 rifles and KEP pistols). The juicer had gone straight for the remaining Overlord and had claimed the strange eyeball staff that Tak could smell the magic it used. The juicer looked up at Tak, then hurled the vibro knife in his hand to impale one of the kitanni that was trying to walk away. He gave a smirk and a thumbs up, then went to retreive his blade.

From their vantage points, Kain and Tori both realized something was causing the mercs to stir. They were all breaking cover and converging on one spot in a bit of panic. One of them called out, "Shiv! Boss is down!"

The juicer forgot his looting, and demonstrated the fabled juicer speed as he bolted for the gathering mercs.

[Tori]

Tori had a debate with herself, lasting exactly two seconds. She could no longer wait for orders, and broke cover, heading towards the fallen mercenary commander. It seemed she beamed down from the Enterprise, being that well camouflaged, and that stealthy.

"I'm SO-3 Tori, my team's hospital corpsman. I'd like to help yer leader if I kin."

Assuming she was given permission, she kneels beside the fallen merc, assesses his condition, and, if she can help, she would.

Kain watches the Mercs get excited by something going on, then Tori breaks cover to go see what is going on. He decides that she wasn't going over there by herself and breaks cover as well, only slowing down enough to be standing outside the Merc group to watch what was going on; also watching the mercs at the same time. After their encounter with Atlantian forces, he has a reason to keep his weapon ready but not aggressively against the Mercs. At least, not yet anyway.

[Janxi]

Janxi's ears flattened as Tori broke cover. Tori did better with strangers than she did, and she wouldn't break a sweat for a bunch of mercs. So she stayed in hiding and covered her little partner.
