Shep groaned and snarled, struggling to move on his own against Tori's help. "What the hell hit me? Felt like one of Tank's punches." Tori could see the barbed tip had embedded in shep's armor, but hadn't penetrated.
Kain picked up several heat signatures, but none that seemed large enough to shoot at them. Then as Takota opened up with his wild bursts, Kain saw a figure moving in the canopy. Janxi's superior vision spotted the mutant rat as well as it started down from it's hiding spot . He was far enough away that no normal bow could make that shot

Tori extended her vibro-claws and slashed the arrow as close to Shep's cuirass. This would keep it from getting jabbed in further or impeding his movement.
"How many's that you owe a shagcat? We'll settle up later..."
Tori raced up to Janxi's side, pulled out her binoculars, and began scanning the treeline.
"Contact forward. No tango. Windage... left to-right-two. No tango. What's your picture-in-glass, shooter?" Not that wind would affect a beam sniper, nor would gravity, but it was a spotter tradition, and still used because projectile sniping was still a valued skill.
Tori continued to scan for targets, back to her original role as the sniper's spotter. She loved it best working with Janxi.

The little cat didn't move the glasses from her eyes. "Just his pride's wounded. An' he'll need a big 'ol patch on his armor..." Her voice was just a mutter and she continued searching for the shooter.

Takota releases the trigger on his weapon but keeps his finger hovering close just in case another burst should be needed. Unlike the others though he glances behind them to make sure nothing is trying to sneak up on them.
"Well surprise is out of the question. They know that we are here now." he comments as he scans the area for possible threats.

Shep snarled," We need a real medic. Tori, your bedside manner sucks." He groaned and sat up.
As the rest of the team watched for the sniper, Janxi fired and everyone saw the mutant rat go spiralling off to the side from the direct hit. There was no return fire. and things were suddenly quiet in the swamp again

"An' Shep? Yer ass is still alive time-after-time, so I'll call that a 'Thank yew.' Yer ribs hurt, yew sing out." Tori's tail swished only slightly peeved. She knew the gruff soldier well enough to know what he meant.
"Six? Permission to search the shooter for intel."

"Nice shot." Kain comments as he secures his area of fire for more murtant rats. Seems the teams intell was dead-on about rats in the area. Kain was just one of this soldiers who like to see things for himself. If the rats are here that surely means the Splorgies were here also. Not a bad way to spend the day, anyway.

"Yer covered, T. Go check'im out."
Janxi kept her rifle trained on the fallen rat, just in case he decided to get up, or she saw movement in his area. With her peripheral vision, she searched for other threats to her little partner.
"If dat's tha only shooter, and he's az dead as ah think he is, they have no ah-deah weer heer," she said to Takota. "Uv course dis swamp is crawlin' with CS, and we've just come back fromma big battle. They knew wee'd be back."
Janxi waited for another target to present, watching, listening and reaching out with all of her feline senses.

"Aye-aye, Six." Tori bounded down, sprinting much faster than her little legs should allow. Running at twice her normal speed, she substituted her rifle for the binoculars, returning them to their case.
She made her way as stealthily as possible to the fallen rat, aware he may still be alive. If dead, she would search his body, confiscating orders, maps, intel, personal items, weapons, supplies or anything else usable.
If alive, she'd put a burst or two into the chodesmoker's head.

Takota returns his attention back toward the fallen rat and Tori as she heads off alone to check the thing. He keeps the CI-404 ready in case trouble should decide to show itself once again.

When Tori got to the rat, she found her caution had been overkill. Janxi had caught the rat squarely and punched a hole through it's unarmored chest and killed it instantly. In it's pocket were only a few trinkets, nothing of value.
As the rest of the squad watched on, a noise was coming from behind them at the other end of the forest corridor. A machine of sorts.
Det and Scope were the first to take up positions, followed closely by Shep

Kain moves to take cover behind a tree, looking in the direction of the machine sound. Maybe their luck was holding and this was the big gun they came looking for. Granted, most people would view dealing with a part of a super mega-damage weapon with righteous dread, but spec-ops took things like this in stride. That didn't mean that some part of Kain wasn't speaking in the back of his mind that he should get up and get the hell out of the area but he squashed that voice and focused on his work.
He also took the safety off his grenade launcher, getting ready to turn whatever vehicle that wasn't the super-gun into scrap.
