Ch. 8 - Back in Action

Takota keeps the business end of his weapon pointed down one direction of the open track under the canopy of the trees while watching for any sign of movement.

With a soft chuckle he nudges Janxi with an elbow and motioning to Shep, Sam, Scope and Kain. "I doubt they'll use nukes. Blowing up officers and non-coms of the Coalition of this squad with nukes just to take out this gun wouldn't look good." he says quietly to her in a light-hearted tone.

Then getting back to business he once again turns his attention to watching the area.

"A captain, a CWO and a buncha cats ain't gonna be missed. Anyone asks, we died in the line of duty. Tacky, I've gotten used to bein expendable..." She gave her larger partner a nod, knowing that she was right to never trust the man.

"We might be expendable but we'll never know what the Splorgies are up too in this area if we just blow it to hell." Kain said. "we can't afford them the service of keeping their secrets."

Hence why they were out here. The whole set up in Dinosaur Swamp was the very reason the why Special Operations was created. To find the enemy, learn what they were up too, and hopefully blow the alien scum back to what ever hell puked them up. That specialy went for Atlantis and their evil ways. If it weren't for them maybe things might be different or could be allow to change. Yet, that was not the case and Kain is going to focus on the mission at hand to deny them any foot hold they are trying to set up in the area.

Sam pats Scope on the shoulder and says, "Good man."

Sam nods and says, "The drones sound like a good idea. Let's call some in."

Scope nodded, and pulled out the field radio. " All yours, boss lady. Just hope they can't track our signal."

"Always the doomsayer, Scope." Det said, shaking his head.

"You scared, Det?" Shep piped up.

"Hell no," Det chuckled," not unless I get between the shags and the buffet table."

[Tori]

Tori walked in a circle three times, lightly stomped her feet, and curled up in nap formation. "We should clear the area doublequick after tha message, but keep an eye on tha drones. An' who said nuffin 'bout a buffet? I'm hungry!"

"Outstanding. When the drones ingress, we're gon need some observation posts ta watch 'em and track their shot if they send one at the drones."

Janxi began to look about for anything like a hill or a tall tree with a good line-of-sight around the swamp. A ruined building would be good too.

As the plan to use drones crystallizes he finds a spot that would make him hard to see from outside their perimeter but still easily watched by the rest of his team. He pulls out his computer once more and plugs it into his helmet to access his cybernetic link.

"Once we got the drones flying I can track them this using our topographic maps of the area to see what areas they pick up activity. Maybe If I'm lucky we can pick up a live feed from them."

Looking to Sam, "Scope, come over and I can secure the line before you broadcast."

Once Scope makes his way over he will help him open a secure signal using his knowledge on scrambling signals and transmissions and making them into something that the Forward Special Ops group will be looking for. It was the means that Special Forces stayed in contact whilst keeping the bad guys from knowing what they were up too.

Hearing that the drone idea is now a go Takota chuckles softly to himself and shakes his head.
'I thought it was decided the drones were a bad idea.' he thinks to himself.

He continues to keep watch along the path that had been made through the trees almost hoping that something will show itself. He agrees with Janxi though. Having someplace to observe from would be helpful.
"I'd like any place to watch from as long as it is somewhat hidden. Standing out here with my ... tail hanging out in the open just doesn't feel right." he comments to Janxi even though he feels like he is blending in fairly well with the background.

Taking the radio, Sam calls in an order for drones. Once that’s done, Sam keeps a close eye out for signs of trouble as she waits for an ETA on the drones.

Despite Kain's efforts, Sam's call was answered clearly and unscrambled, " Three Squad 6, , request received. Two Eagles airborne in ten mikes, no Talons available at this time."

While the others were hunkering down to wait for whoever to return, Shep was walking out into the cleared area, looking up.

"Hey old man," Det scoffed," you ain't gonna see them yet."

Shep didn't say anything in reply as he raised his rifle and aimed over everyone's heads. A single quick shot snapped out to strike the canopy, where it ricocheted off a branch and up through the leaves. Shep nodded as he lowered his carbine, " Just what I thought. Steel trees. That's how they can hide that thing from aerial recon.

His efforts earned him an arrow strike that knocked him flat, the arrow embedded in his armor as he dropped. His assailant was nowheres to be seen as Shep began to crawl towards the others.

[Tori]

"Contact front! Janxi? Cover me!" Hissed a very angry Tori. She looked around and listened for a shooter before she sprinted out, grabbed Shep and dragged him back to the treeline with surprising strength from her small frame. She used a steel tree for cover and knelt down beside Shep.

"Are you awake? Did it penetrate your armor, are you hurt?"

If he needed, she would begin treatment immediately.

As the arrow flies and Shep gets knocked down and retrieved by the medic, Kain brings his rifle up one handed. He uses his free hand to disconnect and put the computer away as he searches with the thermal sight for whoever fired on the team. Who ever it is, is quite stupid to be using a simple weapon like that without some kind of enhancement. Either stupid, or didn't know any better. Even if they are some hick in the woods, they were hostile and going down.

[Janxi]

"Go T..." Janxi said in a calm, conversational tone. She was used to Tori spotting for her, but was more than capable as a sniper. The Steel Tree Forest apparently made steel tree bows and arrows. She might need one for herself.

"Tacky, give'er some suppressin' fire..."

She pulled off her scope's cover and began sweeping the treeline in the direction the shot came from. Being a cat, her eyes tracked movement. Her ears searched for the shooter. If anything or anyone popped up to drop Tori or take another shot at Shep, she was going to light them up.

Takota would be more than happy to lay down a load of hurt on the hidden archer IF he knew where their camouflaged adversary was. As it is he does just as Janxi suggested and fires off a few carefully measured bursts in the general direction the arrow came from. Of course, to him, without the noise of a conventional weapon the idea of suppressing fire just doesn't seem to be as effective. Still he might just get lucky.
