"Ahh, hiya Beatrix" Bellephoebe waves slightly. Given Fakir's casual sacrifice of his minions earlier Bellephoebe was a bit worried. Besides she's more than a little attracted to Beatrix (and bunny girls in general, a holdover from Merctown) in general.
"I suppose if you want to get wet I'll have to tolerate it. After horrible wasted deserts, necromantic wastelands, and endless slums, it's no big deal. Besides in this dimension it's probably not carrying any toxic chemicals. Besides, I suppose this is one place we're unlikely to be overheard, which was probably your intent.
As far as how everything goes, I'd say pretty badly. I haven't noticed much that's unusual at all. By my standards I don't think any of these girls are ready to assume a position of potential leadership, but I'd imagine that's a cultural difference more than anything. That said, it might not matter much given that we're aware of the threat that apparently started the problems we're concerned about. If we remove our friend with the purple eyes from the equasion, the price might actually be able to make his selection blindfolded with a dart board."

Miriam smiles, clearly glad to have thought of a suitable plan once again, "Do you hunt often, lord?" She asks Malone

Fakir looks out into the rain clouds. "Is this the best we can do then, simply choose differently and hope for the best?" He turns to Bellephoebe.
"I'm not sure we should say none of these girls are ready to lead. This place is known as the nursery of queens. We have come to them from a more advanced time. And they are all young. Surely a court advisor could train them up to be more suitable with time. So perhaps we must pick one who has potential."
"What about that? Are there any who might grow into what we need with time? The Emperor yet rules, and the wars are years away, though there was some prelude to them. I had hoped to find one who was simply ready of course, but are there some with potential?"

Talon asks Tesla, "Anything to report?" "I have a good theory on what is in that Chemical..and can counter some of its affects given the right mix." he responded, "Its a mix aphrodisiac, Pisonic enhancer and some magic. By removing the aphrodisiac the Psionics enhancer should be less effective.." he shared his findings,"The locals can make hats and other glue requiring materials that can affect brain chemicals and alchemy should be of great help. How long it will take..can't be sure..but with the right help not long." he took a look around as he spoke. checking for dust and such in all sorts of places. "As for the mix...I'm sure we can make our own and probably have a counter or use it against them...but that might lead to less noble uses." he cautioned.

"The way I see things Fakir is that we're here to prevent the total destruction of this world. I do not think anyone can create a true utopia, or eternal golden age. Indeed striving for such things has been the seed that has destroyed worlds in the past, or lead to the worst kinds of tyranny despite the noble intentions. If we've prevented the apocalypse, we've achieved our goal.
That said, I do not see anything particularly wrong with trying to improve conditions or planting the seeds of progress. I was talking to Tesla about working to up the tech level, covertly establishing a global communications network if nothing else. He was against it, but I still think that kind of thing is not a bad idea. He's right that in the long run introducing higher technology on any level all at once will lead to numerous problems, and probably cause more than one crisis, but in the long run it's probably worth it, and might reduce the chances of the total annihilation we fear simply coming from another source.
I'll also say, that at the end of the day I don't even really care if you take over this dimension one way or another, since my objective here is to save it from complete destruction. This is why I suggested earlier that you have one of your girls train to be a princess, which I believe your working on now as a potential option. I'd of course prefer that they self-govern with minimal outsider interference, but at the end of the day I'm content with staving off total destruction. Heck, if I wasn't concerned about other responsibilities I might be tempted to make a run at rulership myself, I wouldn't be the first High Magus to disappear on sojourn and it's not a bad retirement of a sort, but it would be wrong, and to be frank I recognize I'd be an utterly craptastic leader for anything outside a regimented military organization, they need someone better, in a wider array of situations. Not to mention that I sometimes doubt my own sanity at times, which is never a good thing, I mean here I am thousands of years in the past in another dimension trying to save a world... That's kind of overreaching for an unsuccessful mercenary who came up fighting Dead Boys and Atlantean raiding parties"
Right now, if I had to leave one of these girls potentially in charge, the only one I feel is close to ready is Miriam. She's not the most likable of the group by far, but I figure she's the most likely to mature into the leader this world needs. Of course I could be wrong about that, because I do not know specifically what kinds of problems are ahead. It's not like I'm Hari Seldon and can prepare for things thousands of years ahead of time based on a branch of science that doesn't really exist... psychohistory would make things much easier at the moment". Bellephoebe stops herself from rambling about old science fiction novels.

"If the hunt is fair, and as much of the animal is used when brought down, hunting's a fine sport. My abilities are more for dealing with people, than animals, but a good hunt is always welcomed."

Talon thinks for a moment, "Try to come up with a counter, but keep in mind they may have other concoctions. Focus on blocking the delivery systems. If they have a drug this powerful, it is likely any other drugs they have use similar ideas. This isn't Atlantis, and I've never heard of such a compound on my homeworld here, so I think it is produced locally." He tells Tesla.
"Fakir is on the roof. Go find him and tell him too. He'll want to locate the production facility."

Fakir shrugs, "It would be best if Talon, nor I, spent much if any time guiding the princess. We are knights, and the Empire is vast. Better we use our knowledge of the future to create a better geopolitical climate in the farther reaches. Oh, we'll make sure she has appropriate mentors and protectors. But if there is anything time travel teaches, it is that personally attending to every little thing is impossible. If Talon brings justice to neglected poor regions, and I bring a little wealth, it will do far more good than instruction on politics from paranoid time travelers."
"So I agree with you. We want to leave the Empire in good hands, but not attempt to create a utopia. Still, 'good hands' is tough to define. A skilled diplomat? A wise ruler? A kind heart? I'd like to meet with everyone tomorrow morning and go over the candidates as we see them. See if there are any we can rule out of focus on."
"Now where could we all meet without getting spied upon I wonder?"

"Well we could use the baths again" Bellephoebe gives a little wink to Beatrix. "That said, since this is supposed to be the crux of the entire crisis, and where the threat begins, I'd say the leader we select needs to be cunning and decisive, and willing to be fairly ruthless when the need arises. Ideally I'd like to find a more benevolent version of Machevelli's Prince to put in charge. Miriam seems like the closest to fitting that ideal. Of course at the same time you have to understand I'm from an unstable, magically saturated hell dimension and come from a loose alliance of mage-run states, one of which is pretty evil and untrustworthy by any objective sense. As you've seen my people ultimately rallied under the most powerful magical beings we know of, and managed to thrive in the environment by putting highly militarized orders of Magi in charge of just about everything. Needless to say trying to find ways to govern a relatively peaceful dimension without that level of threat, and prepare it for a major crisis is a little beyond my experience. I've personally lead from the position that it was an eternal state of crises, where things periodically got worse".
"At any rate, I guess we can assemble everyone for a discussion. To be honest we might want to look for any historical provision allowing for more than one wife. That would change the order of events if he previously had only one. It would also mean we could put someone like Miriam in charge and cultivate her intelligence, and then pick Claire or Pike as a second wife to act as the public face of the regime, give speeches, go on publically seen shopping trips, do charity, or whatever else, and act as a liason with the people. I of course favor Pike, besides really liking her, I get the impression Claire is developing feelings for one of our companions, she also seems more interested in nature than court".

Fakir turns as Tesla comes up onto the roof. "Ah, how goes the science?" Fakir asks with a good natured tone. Storm clouds brew in the background and it is drizzling now, but he seems in good spirits. "Bellephoebe was thinking it might be time for another bath..."

Miriam thinks for a moment, "What is your preferred weapon?"

"Preferred weapon for hunting or the weapon I’m skilled in using? I’m a horrible shot with a bow of any sort, sling, or spear. Given that, I prefer to be up close and personal with the prey when I strike, a sword stroke in the proper areas, and almost anything will fall."
