Bio:
First Sergeant Alexander "Xander" Ramirez was assigned to go to Iraq after the War on Terrorism got into full swing. His platoon saw some heavy fighting in the port city of Basra, and he was when he got caught in the blast of an IED ( improvised explosive device) during a house to house sweep by pushing his partner to the safety of a doorway. Severly wounded, he was flown to germany for a radical surgery that save his life despite some unorthodox procedures. Despite some heavy scarring, he made a recovery after six months, just in time to be presented with a bronze star and purple heart at a formal ceremony.
After several months of rehabilitation, he was sent stateside to a training division. He tried, but it was soon evident that he didn't have what it took to train others. He was a follower, not a leader and he couldn't disipline the recruits like others did. He requested to be tranferred back overseas, and it was authorized. He returned to his unit and was getting back to normal, until his nightmares started.
Many of the others in the unit thought it was the same thing some guys got after the first gulf war, but Xander knew different. His nightmares weren't of the war, but of the grueling sixteen hour surgery he'd endured in Rammstein. His superiors let it slide when he proved that he was still capable despite the few hours sleep he managed, and kept it under the brass' nose for the time being. One Captain even joked about it, telling him," Xander, you're better without sleep now than you were the first time we had you here. How could we let you go?" Little did anyone know, but Xander agreed, and hadn't told anyone that the scars he had from his surgery had healed without a trace. The nurses had told him he would have his battlescars to show his grandkids. And there were other little things, like his knack for using two pistols together now, something his squadmates kidded him about growing up in the old west and watching too many John Wayne movies. His prowess got to the point that his luietenant even aquisitioned him a matching pair of 1911's for him after a particuarily hairy engagement. Most of his squadmates razzed him because he carried an AA-12 automatic shotgun instead of a standard M-16, but none questioned it when things got up close an personal during a sweep.
As his tour began to wrap up, his squad got hammered in a street fight in Tikrit. Once things began to settle down, he began helping with the triaging of his wounded friends. The medic assigned him to help a new corporal who had taken two rounds in the shoulder. As Xander help pressure on the corporal's bleeding, the man stopped screaming. He looked up at Xander, confused before brushing Xander's hand clear. The wounds had healed somehow closed and stopped bleeding. Shaken and confused himself, Xander picked up his weapon and left to return to the fighting. The corporal, it turned out, was too deep in shock to remember what had happened and no one else had seen the incident.
