New to this game, since I didn't really have one, before:
Communication
I expect open, mature, clear communication, in game and out of the game, between players and between the players and the GM. If you cannot see the solution to a problem or conflict in the game, ask everyone, and let everyone know you’re asking. Communicating with others (inside and outside the game) might provide even better solutions than originally considered. Also, including everyone and the GM in communications lets everyone know when there is a PC dispute going on and will help prepare the group to handle it.
You will notice I did not immediately include grammar and spelling in this section. I would like to, but I recognize that errors occur. Clarity, however, trumps the repeated abandonnement of the rules of written English.
Conflict
I expect any player-to-player conflict to be handled maturely, and for all players to accept that the best results may not be the from the action they envisioned. Conflicts between players do occur, and for any number of reasons. The most important things to know are:
Do not create a conflict for the sake of conflict. It creates tedium and ruins games. I intend the players to have enough to worry about without picking fights.
Recognize that most in-game conflicts between players are not worth holding a grudge. Players often miss-step, saying the wrong thing, or acting in a way that is upsetting. If they don’t do it again, there is no reason to force a conflict. If they do it again, I expect you to communicate with them and myself outside of the game.
I understand that people do not want to play like this is Barney and Friends. However, I expect this to not hinder a generally co-operative game.
God-modding and meta-gaming
I expect players not to cheat. God-modding and meta-gaming are, in fact, cheating. I should not have to mention it.
God-modding includes, but is not limited to:
Modifying the setting away from what the GM plans to suit the player’s desires or needs. This is a deliberately broad statement.
Posting the actions of another player, without their permission.
Bullying other players into making in-game actions that suit the player’s desires or needs.
Meta-gaming is, essentially, acting in-game using knowledge that the character did not receive within the game. There are a number of ways this can happen. This is also a deliberately broad statement.
Absence
I expect players to let myself and the group to know if they will be away for more than a week’s time. Messages can be left via private message, the game’s OOC thread, or on a central list for the board (if you only want to post once). This is not a way to find and label flakes. Just an expectation that players will respect other players and the flow of the game.
Player’s expectations:
Communication
Players can expect me to communicate openly, clearly and maturely, both in-game and out of game. If there is something that is not clear, ask me for clarification. (There is a difference between injecting humour, which I often do, and acting immaturely, but we won’t push that line.)
Conflict
Players can expect no other player to bully them, or create a conflict with them that they do not want.
God-modding and meta-gaming
Players can expect to be free from the cheating of other players. A cheating player can expect to have the same visited upon him/her by the GM.
Difficulty
Players can expect the GM to create an environment that is challenging and entertaining, but not so deliberately difficult as to be completely insurmountable.
