I've been thinking about starting a game here for a bit, and thought I'd put it up here to see if anyone would be interested! Giving back to the community, as it were
It would be using the palladium system, since that seems to be the theme here. The setting would be based on the Aces & Eights game: that is to say, an old-west game in an alternate history setting.
I'm not sure who all has access to A&8s, but I'd post some of the history for those who don't have it, of course.
In brief though, the game is set in 1870 North America. The Civil war ended in a stalemate, with the formation of two seperate countries (United States of America, and Confederate States of America). Due to this, and several other incidences, Texes does not join with the States and forms its own independant country (Republic of TExas). Additionally, California remains independent, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gains enough power and foothold to form their own country (Deseret), Some of the Native American tribes co-operate to form the country of Sequoyah. Finally, Imperial Mexico becomes more aggressive than RL history, expanding up through new mexico and into parts of Colorado and Nevada.
The boarder areas of Mexico, Texas and Deseret, Sequoyah and California becomes a big, wide frontier land filled with gold-digs, bandits, boom-towns and ghost towns, and all sorts of potential for adventure or settlement.
The game would be a very sand-boxy game, that is I would use various character hooks for interesting events, but would otherwise let the players choose the general direction of the game. If you want to go panning for gold, go for it! If you want to try and become the mayor of Lazarus, by all means wheel and deal. And of course, if you want to go out and become gunslingers, bandits and the like, you're welcome to do that as well. Just remember the consequences
I will be adding an additional feature to th e A&8s setting: a touch of the supernatural. I havn't decided exactly how yet, but it would be along the lines of Native American shamanism, european 'witchcraft' and so forth. Not to mention haunted burial mounds and such. It will *not* be magic-heavy.
Any questions?
