Back Story:
Douglas Avery is the second son of James and Florence Avery, born 3 years after his older brother Alexander. Their father passed away in 1914, an event that shaped both boys lives. In 1917 his older brother, Alexander, was drafted into the war which left Douglas alone to fend for himself and his mother. Blaming the corrupt nature of the law enforcement his father attempted to clean up, Douglas pursued the occupation of a Detective. He still held within him the same moral strength and conviction that made the men in his family who they were, and quickly discovered he preferred the life of a P.I. to that of an officer and all the red tape and politics that came with a badge. After his brother returned from the over seas conflict, Douglas noticed a change in his brothers personality. Having experienced the horrors of war, Alexander grew distant from both his mother and younger brother and eventually left them without a word. He left Douglas his military issued side arm and a note for his mother.

Note: All the men in his family, at least as far back as his father, have the "Avery Luck." The gut feeling that has helped Douglas in his line of work as a detective and his brother Alexander survive the war. Despite however lucky a person can be, Douglas knows the that you can't always rely on it, as the death of his father has taught him.

Father
- (Deceased) James Avery. Age: 34 (1914). Notes: A well to do man who lived by good morals. James worked as a police officer for the entirety of his, unfortunately, short life and inspired his sons to do good by his actions in law enforcement. Died in the line of duty in 1914, a year after WWI began.

Mother
- Florence Avery. Age: 41 (Current). Notes: Florence struggled with both the death of her husband and the enormity of the war her older son had been drafted to fight in almost simultaneously. With the death of her husband and her older son away in combat, she took it upon herself to teach Douglas the same moral fibers that James and Alexander held. Undaunted by James's death, she encouraged Douglas to pursue his goals and become a detective knowing that her husband would have wanted the same.

Brother
- Alexander Avery. Age: 26. Notes: Having served in the war, Alexander has had military training. With the experience of previous weapons training with his father, Alexander quickly adapted to military combat. He utilized great skill with both a rifle and pistol and survived many near death encounters due to his "Avery Luck". When he returned home, Alexander developed a bleak outlook with the ever increasing violence and crime. He left to pursue his own goals, not wanting the weight of his family to hold him down.
