Ch. 62- We're Engaged! (Alice)

[dakota]

" It's okay." Jason replied. " Just don't tell her everything about me, okay? I don't want that I'm not the real Jason Dexter to get around." He said lowly before giving her a peck on the cheek. He put his arm around her shoulder as they walk into the sitting room, where Alexandra waited, with her folded as she sat in her rocking chair.

She let out a distasteful sigh," I know what kind of work William does. You children had better explain what you are doing mixed up in that sort of racket."

[Mierin]

Alice hugs Jason and says quietly, "I won't." Alice sits down on the couch facing her grandmother and tries to think of how to explain things. Alice looks a bit nervous as she says, "I didn't plan on it. I was just.. kind of got dragged into it, I guess. William was helping me understand things before he left."

[dakota]

" My dear, you aren't telling me anything." Alexandra said with a dour look, "Or is it you don't want to tell me?"

Jason encouraged Alice," Go ahead, tell her everything." He looked at Alice's grandmother," Your granddaughter is the co-leader of the next Sentinels of Liberty and Justice team." He told her proudly, much to the suprised look on the elder woman's face

[Mierin]

Alice looks a mixture of proud, embarrassed and nervous as she explains, "It just sort of happened. William said I had the potential to be a good leader and was training me before he left." Alice hesitates before continuing, "He was also helping me to understand what I can do."

[dakota]

" Oh really?" Her grandmother sounded disappointed. " and what about school? Surely you don't intend to play these games forever?"

Jason cut in," Wait a minute. These aren't games, and despite she needs a little confidence in herself, alice is doing a pretty damn good job. And..."

"Kindly shut your mouth young man, or I'll seal it shut." alexandra warned, making Jason stop. " I know far too well whta a life of being superpowered is like, . But I want to hear from Alice, not you. My dear, are you sure this is what you want?"

[Mierin]

Alice looks surprised by the question. It had been awhile since someone had asked her what she wanted. She is quiet for a few moments and then says, almost sounding hesitant as if she is working it through in her head as she talks, "I.. think so." She smiles quietly, "I do want to finish school, and I've always wanted to help people. Maybe this is the way I can do that."

[dakota]

Jason merely looked at Alice, a warm smile on his face at her answer. "Boy, my granddaughter doesn't need any encouragement from you with her decisions."

"but I didn't say..." He started.

"mind your tongue, or wait outside." alexandra warned. alice had heard the tone many a times, and knew her grandmother was having some fun at her fiance's expense, but judging by Jason's expression, he had no idea.

"Yes, Ma'am." He answered quickly, and simply stared at the floor.

Alexandra began to smirk, knowing she had broken Jason so easily. "Now that that is settled," she leaned forward and gave Alice a big hug," I'm very proud of you."

All Jason could do is look in disbeleif.

[Mierin]

Alice returns the hug with a relieved smile. She really hadn't been sure how her grandmother would react when she found out she had abilities. After the hug, she smiles at her grandmother and says, "Thank you, Grams." Alice admits, "I wasn't sure how you would react if you found out I had abilities, especially after what William said." Alice's smile fades a bit as she remembers what he'd said.

[dakota]

"My dear," Alexandra patted Alice's hand, " I've known what you were before you did. If William told you everything, then you already know where you get them from." Then her eyes narrowed," What exactly did he tell you?"

Before alice could ask, the front door opened," Mother, we're home. Who's shoes are these?"

"In here. someone to see you." Alexandra smiled and spoke lowly," We can discuss it later." she winked.

"Allie?" her father said in suprise.

Mom rushed forward to embrace Alice. " It's so good to see you. We didn't know you were coming."

[Mierin]

Alice looks surprised at her grandmother's statement, but doesn't get a chance to say anything before her parents get home. Standing up, she hugs her mother and says, "Hi Mom, surprise." Alice smiles at her father and stands next to Jason. "I wanted to come and visit so you could meet my fiance." Taking Jason's hand, she says, "This is Jason."

[dakota]

"Engaged?" Alice's mom rushed forward in elation, embracing her daughter.

Dad was a little more skeptical," Isn't this a little premature? Alice, how long could you possibly know this boy?"

"Evan!" Alexandra scolded," Be happy for your daughter!"

"It's okay." Jason said. " Alice and I haven't known each other very long, but the way we connected, it's like I've known her all my life." He offered his hand, and shook with Alice's dad.

[Mierin]

Alice smiles and returns her mother's hug, not surprised that her father had objections. "I know it seems fast, Dad, but I'm not doing anything rashly and it feels right."

[dakota]

"Then prehaps you had better take it from the beginning." Dad said, folding his arms. "So how did the two of you meet?"

Jason smirked' " That's an interesting place to start. Go ahead Alice, tell them."

[Mierin]

Alice smiles at her father, not entirely sure what to tell him. Mentioned that she'd been harrassed by the police and helped by Jason, who was a fugitive at the time probably wasn't the smartest thing to do. So, Alice does something she rarely does as she says, "We met through my friend Jane. Jason knew her boyfriend Dmitri." Alice smirks a bit as she continues, "Jane swears she didn't try to set us up, but I still think she did."

[dakota]

Dad didn't look like he was buying it, but a quick elbow from Mom changed his mind. "Friends will do that, my dear. So Jason, are you a student too?"

Jason proved to Alice that he was far more adept in the lying department as he never missed a beat," No Ma'am, I'm a civil servant. I do low level regional work for Homeland Security."

As Alexandra cleared her throat with a forced cough, Alice's mom asked," Oh? Is that dangerous?"

"No ma'am, actually kind of boring." Jason shrugged, " I work in an office doing risk analysis and coming up with reaction plans as part of a think tank. But at least I've got a place on the beach." He smiled
