Sam smiles politely at Dell as she says, "I'd like to talk first, if that is all right with you. It sounds like the group that was here is the group we are searching for. It's very important that we find them as soon as possible."

Autumn slowly opens her eyes not feeling much better or even rested for that matter. In her silence she tries to find that which is the source of where she is being watched from and if it is Richardson or someone/something else.

"Socrates, it may come as a shock, but I done asked yew to come 'long fer good reason. I seen you object read, and done smelt it too. It's aroma's 'sabit like a cabbage fart to my nose, but I'd like you to object read them helmets."
Janxi's voice got low. "I don't have no reason to suspect otherwise, but if things ain't what they seem here, we coult learn real fast if they're crookin' us, and find out a little more 'bout our objective..."
She took off her cover and stood at attention over the graves. "What about the third one Shep? Wif tha ol'timey helmet? Was he CS, too, or a Marlin? And I'm guessin' Cpl. Dremel and Pvt. Hansen was in Capt'n Sam's brother's team?"
She continued her vigil for a moment and re-covered. "And another thing, Soc. Better the three of us than Sam comin' up and findin' her brother. She'd be in shock an' all."

Socrates turned and headed for the third one (the old-style armour, that matched Bear's). Shep didn't read a name, so no name must have been visible.
Quietly, kneeling to look respectful, Socrates put his hand on the helmet. Before activating his psychic powers, he says to Janxi, educatively. "Humans respect their dead this way, and expect those that see these memorials to leave them alone. How they died, even if I could say, would not necessarily show who is responsible. Also, there's no way I'm smelling a month-old corpse." Turning to the helmet, he adds. "Whether she heard it now, or later, she would still feel his death."
And he object reads... Made in Taiwan?

"Hey Six? Your brother ain't up there, Janxi says. And uh, she also said something I don't git. She said, 'Git tha brillo out...' That mean anything to you?"
Tori murred as she held little Brea. "Whasswrong with eatin' muck fish? I'm a fishin' cat and thems what fishin' cats eats." She nuzzled the little girl again. With plenty of fish, she approached a cook with some hot oil and corn meal.
"Hey, I'll give ya a share if ya don't mind fryin' it all up fer me! Little Brea here needs some fried fish! Y'all got some limmins to put on 'em?"

Sam can't help but feel relieved when she hears that her brother wasn't in one of the graves where Janxi, Shep and Socrates had gone. She shakes her head and says "No, that doesn't mean anything to me." She then turns back to Dell and waits for him to respond.

" They were. Been with Tim since I was on that team." Shep said as he headed back towards Sam. " And yeah, I know the third one too. Don't worry about it , let's go."
As Socrates used his powers on the helmet, he could see it's owner, a young man in an ISS uniform. Despite a face full of frckles and red hair , the young man reminded Soc of Trassk somewhat. The image suddenly changed to the midst of a firefight and something lunged forward to pick the young man off the ground and then slam him downward before everything faded to black. He could also see a name written on the third memorial in the same place as the other two.
"Muckfish is nasty and taste like mud" Brea retorted with a raspberry. " Mommie says I don't have to eat them."
The cook looked at the fish and nodded," You want cooked? Okay, Cheif Dell said do whatever guests want." At the same time, he pointed to a bushel of lemon, " Got some."
Dell looked at Sam for a moment," You're looking for Captain Tim?He's a good man, his people have helped many in the swamp. Is he in trouble?"He asked suspiciously, glancing at a large map on the wall that was divided up into territories.
As Autumn opened her eyes, just for an instant she saw something looking at her from the bushes. It had a humanoid face, but it's eyes were too big and wide as it backed out of sight quickly.

Socrates tried, very subtly, to read the name, making it look like he was till meditating, open-eyed. An old trick he had learned to avoid detecting from human superiors.
Literacy: English [dice=100] (needed 50%, pass!)
Once he had a chance at the name, he would stand and ask "Know"? Rather bluntly, picking up on the tense in the word.[rand=365901781039715497613723962882177507450684091669315021956327123]

Tori gave the little cub a sandpapery lick to the face, knowing it would tickle, and with her fish cared for, she returned to the discussion slowly, still snuggling the girl. "What about turkles, and gators and frogs? Ya like froglegs and turklesoup and some fried gator tail? That's down-home cookin'! 'Long wif some barbecue!"
She studied the map as well as she could, unable to read it. On the other hand, she could more than navigate most anywhere, and knew symbols. She committed the lay of the land to memory and determined their current location.

Sam shakes her head at Dell. "No, Tim's not in trouble." Sam hesitates for a second before adding, "Tim's my brother. I just want to bring him and his team back home safely."

The doctor after being startled by whatever it was, jumps up and looks around to see who is around her. Seeing only Richardson, "I saw something out there in the wilderness. Looked humanoidish, but I am not quite sure what it was."
She then wraps in her head what it could have been and uses her knowledge for that.

Janxi's tail gave a gracious swish. "I know Socrates. I was born at the beginning of the War," said Janxi evenly. "I learned real quick cats and dogs got cremated at the front, to prevent dead raisin'. Human KIA's however, got brought home by Death's Heads for a mil-tary funeral. Live soldiers flew out, dead soldiers flew in. I saw lotsa coffins draped in flags, and new graves with shiny white crosses. So yeah, I know what that means."
She sighed before she continued, "I also know that if I was that operator in that there grave, I'd hope the next bunch of swingin' dicks that came along stopped at my grave. If they could do what you could do, I'd want them to object read mah skull-can, so they could tell my mama I died wif my boots on like a Marine.
"I'd also want 'em to know how I died, so they could avoid it happenin' to them, and to 'venge me if I needed 'vengin'.
"Shep, ya reckon any point object-readin them other two? Assumin' ol' Socrates found somethin' on that one?"
The massive feline marine returned her cap to its proper place and started down the hill. "Lemmie know if ya learnt anythin' , Socrates. I'm gettin' some chow n' checkin' on Six."

"You've never seen or smelled a long-dead body, have you?" Socrates says. "Only one who could tell you how they died, really, is the doctor, or a forensics doctor. And I do not want to be in that room."
Otherwise, he waited for Shep to answer his question and to know what the name was that he read.

"Cuz what would a marine and a hunter know about death and how it smells? Socrates, did you learn anything or no? You want me to say you're the salty old vet-ran, then fine, you're the crusty ol' Sgt. Maj... Now I'd just like to know if you learned sumtin 'for I get another lecture. I'm hungry, and I'm hoping we get to bivouac here for the night."

Socrates raised an eyebrow. "I have learned something." he said cryptically. "And I will discuss it with Shep, first. I will not rush out with half-truths."
"I will not exhume the bodies, and that is final. If you wish to learn from them, by all means, I will not stand in your way." He said, more calmly. "Whether you want to do it on a full or empty stomach is your choice."
