Tori leaned into Shep's scratch and began to purr. Pretty much her first real purr on the trip. "Yeah, I guess it ain't so bad." An under-the-chin scratch was well loved by even the most cantankerous cat, and served to improve spirits wonderfully.
She collected her fish in the pail and tossed the skeletons to nearby pelicans. Then she cased her bow after removing the reel. Walking toward the building indicated, she marveled at the turtle shell.
"Lemmie guess, Brea, it's a big snappin' turtle?" She purred louder watching her giant partner play with the girl, but Dell's words sunk in. The objective couldn't be far anymore.

Janxi returned to the team with a giggling girl on her shoulders. She lifted her off and into a warm, and very silky embrace followed by a nuzzle. Nothing was softer or warmer than the ruff of a lioness. "Well, big puppies sure ain't more fun than a kitty!"
She followed Tori, keeping close to Sam as she carried the child. It felt good to be out of her armor, better to be clean, and best to have a cub to entertain. As she drew breath, she purred, and investigated the tortoise shell. Something had to kill it, so she looked for laser holes, HEAT missile blasts and signs of explosives, without being too snoopy-looking.
"Did that big doggie or any of the people that was wif him tell ya their names?"

Sam nods at Dell and follows him quietly so they can look at a map of the tribal lands. Sam is hoping if it was, in fact, her brother's team, they hadn't left too long ago and that there would be a chance for Sam to catch up with them. She smiles quietly at the interaction between Janxi, Tori and the child, thinking it was cute and good work in getting information for the team.

As they walked, Socrates started to hold back a little. No-one has offered an explanation about the armour the huntress was wearing. He wanted to actually see how the got it.
It wasn't so much about mistrust, as a nagging desire for independent verification.

Shep glanced back at Richardson and nodded," Keep an eye on things until we get back, and try to keep Autumn out of trouble if she wakes up. We'll bring you back something to eat."
Brea was enjoying herself so much, it took a moment to answer, " No, a petal turtle, silly. They're alot meaner than snappers. Got a long neck and a big mouth that his lips open up like a flowers petals.Momma said it could eat small dinos in one gulp and she hid me from it. The Captain called the big doggie Knucklehead, but he said his real name was Dex or something like that. Was hard to tell because he didn't talk very well, just growled alot."
Shep gave a knowing smile, and patted Sam on the shoulder," Rex has a speech inpediment. We're in the right place. Tim was here alright."
The shell was heavily scarred, but nothing had penetrated it that Janxi could see. Something else grabbed her attention though. Beyond the shell she could see a burial mound, and atop three crosses were two new style and one old style dead boy helmets.

"Somethin' lookin' like a flower don't skeer me too much like tha," said Tori. "Flowers is for pickin' anyhow."
She followed Janxi's gaze up to the boot hill and nodded. "You wanna take Shep wif ya and pay are respeks, it might be a good idea. I'll mind Miss Brea and Capt'n Sam." Shep would be needed to read the names on the crosses or helmets. Janxi would play bodyguard. If Sam's brother was interred in one of the graves, Shep could probably break the news a little easier than the shock and dread of seeing it for herself.
"In tha mean time, I'll take Miss Brea and see 'bout gettin' some of this supper started!"
She took the little girl from her massive partner. Brea would feel much bigger held by a tiny cat. But tori was still quite strong, furry and very warm, and would be a nice plush toy for the cub. She entered the building indicated by Uncle Dell and let the little girl wear her boonie. "Alright Brea, which one in here's tha best fish cooker? And how you want yers? Grilled, fried, baked, or chowder-ized?"

Socrates noted that his Object read abilities seemed to not be as useful in the village and proceeded into the larger building.
On his way in, he took another glance at the village, predicting its outcome, if the CS ever had intentions for this part of the world. Though not pleased such an outcome would be tied to the greatness that humanity could be.
Inside, his nose went into overdrive, as he attempted to sniff what he could sniff. To an observer, he just appeared to be looking around, his nose wiggling a little. It was more a standard and habitual level of caution than outright suspicion. Also, he was curious what the food was going to be.

"Hey Socrates... You might be wantin' to pay yer respeks too when me and Shep visit our fallen soldiers." She hoped he would see the wisdom of sniffing and object reading the helmets on the crosses at Boot Hill. If he wanted to debate it again, she'd let him.
Janxi looks over at Shep and gestures to the graves. "What say you and me pay our respeks to them fallen soldiers? Brea? Were thems killed fightin' that there flower turkle?"

Socrates eyes shifted to Janxi, and then to Shep, to see what Shep thought. Janxi was supposed to be with Sam right now, and until she got to that, Socrates would at least ensure some nominal level of safety for her and the other troops before worrying about month-old graves.

"S'allright, Soc. I think me, Richardson and Sam can keep our eye on Brea." Meaning she had two eyes on Sam at all times, even playing with the girl cub. She gave brea a gentle nuzzle under the jaw, a universal feline signal for "Pet me! You're my new human!"
On the other hand, her eyes remained on Sam, and a paw was never far from a weapon.

"This is something we should all do, as a group, when we have the chance." Socrates quietly said. "It would in rude to do otherwise."
Unless Shep overrode him, Socrates was staying in the main hall. He did not know why the cats wanted him out. He suspected they just were carrying through their general dislike for him and wanted him out of the way. in carrying forward his desire not to be rude, he did not state this suspicion. Nor did he indicate that Tori was right in understanding why Socrates wanted to stay in the hall, since he had said nothing about his sniffing earlier.

Sam looks over at Socrates and says "Go ahead and check it out with Shep and Janxi. Just don't dawdle. We'll be fine." A small smile appears as she tries to not think of how one of the graves they're talking about could be her brother's. "Besides," she continues "you'll want to get something to eat, I'm sure."

Socrates nods. "Of course." He said to Sam, in a tone that hinted he would follow the order as a soldier should. "I will inform you if we learn anything useful." He seemed to doubt anything about identity could be obtained, except from dog tags.

Shep offered a muted, " We'll be right back, Capt'n," before motioning towards the burial mound to Janxi and Socrates before walking that way. He paused a moment out of respect, then read two of the names aloud, " Corporal Alicia Dremel. Private Aldo Hansen. I knew these two, good soldiers." There was something to his tone as he nodded to the graves again before putting on his sunglasses and turning his back to head back to the others. To Socrates, the camp smelled very much like the last one, and all the animals could sense that the magic users within the village were keeping their distance from the squad.
Brea looked at the bucket of fish, " Eww, you're gonna eat mud fish? Yuck!"
Dell laughed at his neice," The little one is spoiled. You can cook your fish how you like, or exchange it for what the cooks are making." He looked at Sam," You wish to eat first or talk?"
As Autumn rested, she could hear Richardson nearby cleaning his weapon, but it felt like she was being watched.

Socrates also stood quietly. They had names, neither were Sam's family name. There was nothing else he expected to learn from them, their being dead ruining chances of communication, so, with a polite nod, turned and followed Shep, wordlessly, into the hall.
"Knew them how?" He asked Shep, after a moment of silent walking.
