From behind, Shep stepped up beside Socrates, and gave him a rub between the ears that the old soldier knew all dog boys appreciated. He smirked at the dog boy, " Relax a bit, Socrates. I think we're on the right trail." He pointed at the hunt leader talking to a very large man wearing a spiked dog boy skull cap. " Last I remember, Captain's brother had a dog boy on his squad that was big as an Ursa. And Bear always wore a skull cap just like that one." He made sure he said it loud enough that Sam and the others heard him. " Tori, you think you can catch one big enough to share? I'm hungry enough I'll mix you a batch of that old man's hot sauce myself when he get back to base."
Janxi was suddenly aware of something behind her as she felt something small grab her tail lightly. " Kitty fuzzy and soft." Said a little girl's voice.
Shep burst out laughing," Soft is one word I'd never use for Janxi."
Across the camp, the hunt leader was approaching the squad, followed closely by the man she had been talking to.
A strange little man with gnarled hands patted Autumn's shoulder. " You have done enough. I can care for the rest. Go with your companions now."

SOcrates looked over at Shep. "Seeing someone else wearing that helmet does not worry you?" He asked. "And I am, quite frankly, relaxed, all things considered. I am merely maintaining a perspective on the mission."
Stretching, he took a moment to change into a clean set of scivvies under the armour in the shower hut. Unwashed dog smell was always better than wet dog smell (Socrates would take many hours to be completely dry, if fully exposed to a breeze; he didn't want to imagine what it would be like armoured in swampy humidity), so he passed on the shower. He had so far resisted the common and rather unsightly field trick of pretty much bathing in mud to mask his own scent. Once they were done with the locals, he would probably get that done.

" Didn't say it doesn't worry me. Just means we're going the right way." Shep replied with a shrug.

"How cavelier." Socrates observed, as Shep shrugged.
Otherwise, he waited quietly to see how things would unfold.

The good doctor turns to face the older man. "I can not leave until I am sure all are cared for. Are you a Doctor or some form of healer." Her exhaustion considering the past day or two starting to show through.

Janxi held onto Tori's bow without casing it. She knew little kitty would be back after her shower, and hungrier than ever before.
Janxi froze when her tail was grabbed, expecting to see a very naughty dogboy trying to be funny again. But the hand was wrong, it was human and well, small. She turned slowly and looked down at the little girl. She began to purr and lifted her into an embrace.
"Hello there cub. You should know, most kitties don't like it when people grab their tails 'n might scratch. But I ain't never minded when they're such beautiful little princesses. And jus what might your name be?"
"Awww, you jus gotta getta know me a lil better, Shep!" She said with a wink. Whatever ill will she had faded quickly especially around a child.
She held onto the child protectively but would be ready to evacuate or shield her should a fight break out. The bear hat got her worried. Get the kid out of harm's way, then support the team.
"That's a right purty brain bucket you got on there. Know where maybe I can git one too?"

Tori was walking back to the bath house for her turn when she heard Shep's observations about the man's helmet. She took note of his position in camp and his approach. She thought of staying outside, but decided, in the end, if there was trouble, she would have a little cover in the shower to mount a defense. Janxi had no armor, but somehow, this didn't feel like it was going to come to blows. They could have better mounted an ambush when the party was split.
She smiled a fangy grin when Shep asked her about her fishing. "Yeah, I reckon I prolly catch fresh fish fer 'bout all of us."
Tori watched the little girl stalk Janxi. Then giggled as the tot grabbed a handfull of tail. "Looks like ya gotta friend. Don't feed her kid, or ya'll have her 'round all the time."
The shower water felt great. Her coat was nearly waterproof anyhow, so the cold did little to bother her. Janxi's hunting shampoo was perfect. Clean, but scent suppressing. Her pressed fur felt much better. She gave herself a vigorous shake, and was nearly dry. Being a fishing cat had that advantage.
She dressed in UDT shorts and a T-shirt reading "BUDS 28" superimposed over the SEALS "Budweiser" emblem. She pulled on her boots, knives, and pistol belt, and grabbed her rifle. Under arms, the boonie went back on her head. She grabbed janxi's knives, sidearm and primary and went outside to share the toys with her partner. "You forgot your gear, sister. Anyhow, did we find out what this wee one that snuck up on you is called?" She blew a puff of air into the little girl's face.
"She looks like a 'Livia to me!" Tori gave a purr and nuzzled the little one as Janxi held her. "Do you like fish?"
She watched the hunt leader and the man approach. Yep, this would be interesting.

Sam notes Shep's words and looks over at the helmet he described, hoping this meant they were getting closer to where Tim and his squad were being held, or at the very least, they could get some answers on where they needed to go next. However, there were things to take care of first.
Sam walks up to where Autumn and the other man are and tells autumn in a firm, but kind tone of voice, "Take a break, Doc. You can't help anyone if you collapse because you pushed yourself too far and ignored your own needs." If Autumn argues at all, Sam will shut it down in a firm tone of voice, "That's an order."

Tori takes the little one from Janxi and gives her a few nuzzles, purring loudly. As she held the child, she gave Janxi's weapons back to her. Then she passed the little girl back to big fuzzy and grabbed her bow.
"Lessie if I kin cetchus all some supper!"
She pulled on her polarized shooting glasses. Waited a moment and fired.

"Rowowowow!" She said in joy. The fish had a little fight, but she reeled it in. The result, a nice 35 pound common carp.
"This what you had in mind, Shep?" She tossed the fish in a bucket and knocked her fishing arrow for another shot.[rand=18903498794962686054954363925235763351956534147407072823651620996]

The doctor virtually exhausted looks but hearing the order decides to actually get up and go get cleaned up. Heading slowly to where the clean up zone is. She almost argues but decides against it.

Janxi held the girl-cub and watched Tori fish. When she reeled up the big fish, she offered exaggerated applause to make the child happy. "Oooh-rah Tori, that's fishing to good effect!"
The fish made Janxi hungry, and her belly began rumbling, too. "Hey Six? I could maybe scrounge up some more chow too. You could even come-a-long iffen ya wanted, since T's busy. Howdja like a big game bowhunt in the Dinosaur Swamp guided by a gen-u-wine Lonestar Redneck? I seen that bowcase of yours. How 'bout maybe we use it for an hour's worth of R&R and food acquisition? Them bigshot colonels at Chi-Town pay thousands of credits for a hunt. We could go for wild hogs, deer, gator or somethin' bigger iffen ya want, and we're gon' be here a while."
If this was a longer stop, Sam could take care of business, then the team and the natives could share a pretty good-sized feast. Swapping chow tended to win friends quickly. Plus, some venison or boar sounded really good. It would allow her to get to know Sam better, and the big cat was quickly moving towards adopting Six as her human.

"That'll work, Tori. Nice job." Shep replied
"Big kitties funny." The little girl laughed with delight at the attention " I not Livia, I'm..."
"Brea, leave our guests alone." Scolded the huntress as she and the leader reached the squad. The little girl broke free of Janxi and ran to waiting arms. The two were clearly kin.
The leader spoke," My niece says you were a big help against the leatherbacks today. For this I am grateful." He eyed Janxi after the comment about his hat," It was a gift . From another skull boy like yourselvesfor helping his people escape Horune slavers."

Socrates ended up behind Sam and Shep, opposite to Janxi (if she's near Sam), so as to not crowd her guard duty. While there was the parlé, he kept his eyes around them.

Tori fired her bow once more:
Fishing [dice=100] needs 50 To hit [dice=20+10] Weight: [dice=10][dice=10][dice=10]
This time she reeled up an 11-pound channel catfish. It took a little time to reel, but she seemed able to concentrate on the conversation, their hosts and the fish at once. She was, after all, a natural fisher.
With the fish up, and in the bucket with the carp, she recovered her arrow and turned to the little girl in her mother's (?) arms. "Hi Brea. I'm Tori, and my big pal here is Janxi! It's good to meet-cha! And we're all glad to help."
She listened to the chief talk and nodded. She didn't want to give too much away, and did more listening than talking.
"Hurune? We tangled wit them on th'way in," Tori said. "So our guys got away?" She thought back to the ship they encountered on the way in, hoping they weren't recaptured and evacuated. Or the ship was reinforcements to recapture them.
"Did they say where they was goin' when they left yer village here?"

Janxi stayed between Sam and Tori. She made no sudden moves, and remained relaxed, giving Brea a playful wink when introduced. Her tail gave a mellow wave from side to side.
"Yeah, T. I'd love another crack at them fishbots. But sure I'd hate to see their ship again."
She shuddered a little, and looked back up to the queen. "Yer little one ain't no bother. I dun mind playin' with her."
