Upon the confirmation that the group is performing a ritual, Sarah immediately pulls out her cell phone and tiptoes away from the closet to a place where she can make the anonynous phone call to the police to inform them of what was going on.

Coop, not sure what Sarah is up to, tries to get her attention with a What? gesture as he watches her leave the closent area, while trying to move to a more discreet place out of the middle of the dining area.

Sarah finds a pay phone in the kitchen, safely away from the closet. When she dials, a voice answers "Lt. Rozatonosky. How may I help you."
Despite his effort to get to the middle, Coop finds off the Maitre D' ushering him to the front. "Please, remember to wait here until new customers arise." In the quiet, Coop hears something like droning.

Sarah speaks quietly into the phone "Yes, I witnessed a ritual going on at the Accountant's fete." She quickly describes what she saw and gives the address and where it was taking place. If the Lt asks for her name, she won't give it, and if he insists, she'll hang up after saying "Please come quickly." Sarah then quietly sneaks back into the main room where the rest of the guests are and standing quietly, watching the show, keeping an eye out on the closet. (tag)

" Yessir." Coop replied. The droning noise started to bother him, and he focused on trying to figure where it was coming from since it looked like to him that Sarah had gone back to work.

Lt. Rozatonosky answered calmly. "Yes, miss. Thank-you for your call we'll be there as soon as we can." He said, a little too easily.
On the stage were a set of clowns doing tumbling, juggling and other distraction actions to keep the crowd's attention until the main event. They were quite adept, but it still seemed inappropriate for the setting.
No sooner had Coop registered that Sarah was back wandering the floor than the elevator dinged open. Out stepped three trench-coated men and woman, and a half dozen beat cops. After listening for a second, they silently (as much as armed and armoured beat cops can) moved to the door. Two officers silently waved Coop and the Maitre D inside, and shut them in. The Maitre D looked absolutely mortified. Being near the door, Coop hears some kind of commotion, but it's soon over.
The clowns finishe their act, and step off the stage. HOwever, instead of the expected Headmaster of the Munter Comedy School, up steps the legendary Mr. Botufa (Eleutheroi's father), and assumes the piano.
"Hello, and welcome." He says, caually playing cords here and there. "I'm sorry to say that I'm a replacement, as our show has a small turn. I hope that's OK." He explains, playing upbeat jazzy cords. "In compensation, I have assembled a small jazz band to keep you busy." The curtain opens, and standing there are Moitai Botufa , and John Moe from the I Don't knows, with the elf on an upright base, and the human playing drums. And, at that, the trio start into a jazz set.
The police soon open the door, letting the Maitre D out of his cage, who drags Coop to his post in the entry foyer.
Mierin Buwendé, also from the band, sidles up to Sarah. "Hey, working hard?"

Sarah looks over at where the brief commotion and hopes things have been taken care of, though the way the Lt acted on the phone seemed a bit strange. Sarah looks over at Mierin with a smile. "Of course. How have you been?" (tag)

Hiding his annoyance with both being stuck working and being totally useless while Sarah obviously prevented something from happening, Coop followed the Maitre D. " I wonder what all the police are for?" He asked, trying to sound as though he didn't know. Once the music started, he couldn't help catching himself tapping his foot to the beat.

The Maitre D, shook his head, eying a smoking closet. "I don't know. They've only rarely come here. It's those... suits, I'm worried about." With a shudder, he returns to the foyer podium, also listening to the podium. "I'm very glad they decided to change their mind and went with a Botufa or two." The elf says, trying to calm down from the unprecedented visit. "I met the man that was supposed to be the comedian. He looked like a rain cloud followed him around. All the while saying it would be a magical show." Shakes his head. "That man was no comedian.
"I'm OK." Mierin says to Sarah. "Looks like you got last-minute work today too, huh? Moitai got the call in the middle of practice. Told us Tobrias needed a favour." Looking around at the crowd, she says "Just like that, they came." Shakes her head. "I tell you, I date one Guild member, and they think they own us."

Sarah nods at Mierin "Yep... this was a last minute thing. Nice to make some extra money since tuition is so expensive" Looking surprised, she asked "Who did you date? If you don't mind me asking." (tag)

Mierin looks sheepishly at Sarah, but doesn't answer, saying instead "Oh, look! A distraction." And heads into the crowd.
FAST FORWARD >>
Later that night, at the guild, Tobrias drives the car in, after offering a ride. When they arrive, Tobrias brings them up to the guild offices. "Well, I would assume you both have some questions as to what exactly happened tonight."
Looking between Coop and Sarah, he says "Headmaster Joran was going to use a series of spells to mystify the audience and steal their belongings, and probably extort powers of attorneys and other means to wealth. This is what Professor Mirath had feared. However, thankfully, Joran does not have the PPE store that you or Eleutheroi have, Sarah. So, he needed to use a voluntary donation from his proteges for the purpose. This is what you had interrupted, Sarah. Thankfully, they were interrupted before they finished, and the lot of them will be going to jail."
"Now, for the police. As I'm sure that's burning in your mind. Sarah and Coop, you two could have easily overpowered the group, and brought them in yourself, but certain issues prevented that. The first is your connection to the Guild. Since the guild council had voted to leave it to the school to solve itself - a lementable mistake that they will be informed of at the next meeting, after the news breaks - you could not be overt. Second, was the location. The Accountants Dilemma is not the place for a magic brawl. The city's lawmakers go there. If they got wind of the damage that could be done, we'ld be banished from the city in a heart beat. And the third was the police themselves." He takes a breath.
"Rozatonosky is heading up a new magic enforcement branch in the city's police department. In order to stay funded, they needed a break. Joran will be the break they needed. Protecting upscale citizens from a band of miscreants using magic to take advantage of the city will keep them in business. Keeping them in business is important to us for two reasons. First, while we can enforce every kind of lawbreaker with a spell book, we simply do not have the resources to do that and deal with the higher-level threats to the city. The police, properly trained and controlled will be able to do that. And we've given them the means to stay open to do it. Any questions?"

" Just one." Coop replied. " How come Rozatonosky is heading up the wizard police and not Eleutheroi? He's already been in the spotlight for the same kind of situation." He didn't let on that his being totally useless in the whole situation bothered him.

Sarah listened to Tobrias explain what they had stopped and is glad that she had been able to interrupt the ritual in time before anyone had been hurt or taken advantage of by magic. SHe can't think of any questions, but thinks Coop's question is a good one and waits quietly for Tobrias to answer him. (tag)

"Because Eleutheroi's part of the Guild's mandate and it would be a conflict of interest for him to head the police agency and be an Guild enforcer. Plus, he lacks the sort of personality suited for police work." Tobrias explains.

" He lacks pretty much any sort of personality..." Coop muttered a little too loudly. He grinned sheepishly, " Sorry, couldn't help it." He apoligized, sidestepping to keep out of Sarah's swatting range.
