Ch 8. Further Investigations Pt1 (The Team)

[kurff]

"I have my own interests." he spoke neutrally hoping his counter part had a huge bank account or they could manage to fake it..

"You seem concerned about Dorsette. Is he or do you suspect he is in any less than on the level?" he asked hoping the concerned investor roll would work.

Worst case he'd have to take chance on the honest approach...and should Mc Phee be on the level...he could pull a few shows to get the money..Hell he could steady work in good paying gig.

Troubleshooter pulled up to the place McPhee had mentioned. It was almost seedy-looking, but held promise as a place where back-room deals are made.

"Oh, he's not on the level." McPhee said, holding back a grunt. "After terminating my employment with them, I had made a breakthrough on a personal project. This very technology. Now, Dorsette wants to claim rights since they believe they paid for it. But, it's an old story in the field, really."

After they park, he gets out of the car. "Should we go in?"

"Of course...If someone could put him away..Provided his crimes warranted it would you help?" Quinn asked. Jason knew it was a risk, but he needed insider knowledge and learned long ago sometimes you had to let the middleman off to get the bigger fish.

McPhee gave Quinn a sidelong glance before scoffing. "Like you could catch him. And his lawyers would get him out in an hour."

McPhee found a table and sat down. "So, you want to fund me. Give me a proposal."

"Then I take you would help take him down if it were possible?" he needed to gain his trust..and not breach his trust to the Centurians. It would be tough but not impossible. He needed to keep the mans interest. He knew Dorsette and if there was a weakness he would know it.

"It's fairly simple with you tech we can provide medical and technical training co-operatively through a mutually approved school or medical facility..But I'm concerned about Dorsette. What kind of threat would pose to our venture? You mentioned if you could bring him down you would. What sort of crimes is he capable of?" he looked at McPhee.

McPhee was starting to look suspicious at the line of questions about bringing Dorsette down. "Look, I'M just a businessman and an engineer I don't - "

"Sir." Troubleshooter interrupted, walking up, politely. "You asked me to remind you when the Hong Kong Central Bank called regarding your funding." He said, suggesting an out.

"Right, I did...Look, Mr. Mc Phee, I just don't Dorsette interfering...If he is a dangerous as you say. In business it's good to know ones enemy. Give me a moment.." he stepped out. thinking what he wouldn't give for psychic..

McPhee nodded. "I doubt he's that dangerous. He just wants the income..."

Troubleshooter, once he was outside, handed Quinn a phone (no one was there, but for appearances sake), and then turned, and looked as if ready to do something with the car. He said, "It seems like he thinks he owns the rights, and Dorsette simply wants to trump him. Dorsette must have sent Kendall to get documents that would support the patent claim. But, either way, be the buyer, get him within arms reach of a patent if you want, but lay off Dorsette and focus on him, alright?"

[kurff]

"I think your right...We can do that," he nodded to Trouble-shooter. Once back in he sat down.

"Sorry about that..back to matter at hand, Since you don't consider Dorsette a problem..will move on. As to the plan I will approach a school or organization and see if we can use that technology for good. I happen to know a few that deal with folks your technology can help. We can set up through them and talk to the local university, Possibly some city funding. ." It was one of the times he was glad he did charity shows.

"I can call and see about fund raising in the next few days. As to the business plan we can work central location and route finances from there as well. I see no need to make too much overhead..." he nodded, "Its a basic plan...will need a few people, but not many.."

McPhee nodded. "Do you have contact information?" He asks. "Also, you do understand that I will be retaining the patents? I am willing to share in the royalties, for a certain amount of time, but the patents I want to keep. Can you do business with that?"

[kurff]

"Local charities and hospitals won't worry about patents, neither an I. I see no problem with that at all with you retaining the patents. I know a few local groups...mostly small. but with the right connections and I If I do a few shows so I can get further funding. I deal in the Magic industry, Stage magic, under an assumed name." he adds.

"I was thinking a foundation that feeds the cause and allows us both to keep our profits separate from the charities for legal purposes." he handed him a card. "Should you have questions..The name is for stage purposes. As it's getting late we should talk about this tomorrow. I am curious to see your work. That is if we have a deal.." he extended a hand.

McPhee looked a little suspicious at the mention of being a stage magician. "Stage magic supplier? Well, I'm not one to judge, I suppose." He reaches out and takes a look at the card, putting one of his own out for Arcadian. It was a contact for a vacuum salesman. "We all have to work, right?"

"Anyways, sure. You get your funding and business plan to me, and we'll do business." McPhee says, shaking Arcadian's hand.

[kurff]

"I will get a hold of you soon as I resolve the details.." he grinned.

"Perfect." McPhee said, politely, as he was getting up. "I look forward to doing business with you."

And with that, he left the room.

About the same time, they hear PowerArmour on their earbuds. "OK, my shift's over, and Dorsette's gone. Not sure where. Can I leave now?"

"Well we have some progress. Let's hope we can get funds...my finances are bit dicey..I can do a few shows to make cash for the venture.." he said with a grin.
