The trip out for once was drowned out by the steady thrumming of rotor wash as Colonel Wallace had piggybacked the squad's trip out onto another mission leaving aboard on of the base's few Deathbringers. It only touched down long enough for everyone to pile out and was once again on it's way, disappearing over the treeline.
Shep quickly replaced his helmet with his trademark tattered ballcap and a pair of sunglasses to cut the late morning glare and the birds began to sing again. Before anyone could comment, he said, " It's not my head he wants, I'm not an officer. He promised to scoop my heart out with a rusty spoon instead if he ever saw me again." He looked at the others. " Remember, no ranks, in case he's got some listening devices."

Nodding at Shep, Sam says to the others "Well, let's move out." To shep, she says "Lead the way."

Mary, as the other trained scout, and not as haughty as Shep, keeps her helmet on. Also, she takes up the rear.

Shep nodded and started out at a somewhat leisurely pace into the forest without a word until they were well under cover before upping his pace. Despite being the oldest among the squad, there was no questioning his physical conditioning and Dyson was the first to start to lag from the weight of his pack. " I can't keep this up. I need a break. Just five minutes to catch my breath." He said between gasps.
Shep looked at his watch. " Not bad, almost two hours. Take your break, I'll go do some snooping around. I'll keep my radio on."
Dyson wasted no time sitting against a tree and pulling off his helmet and cracking his canteen, drinking heavily." Is he trying to kill us? I didn't drill that hard in boot camp."

Sam quietly followed Shep, grateful for her intense training to become a commando, which helped her keep up without too much difficulty. When they stopped to take a break, she put her pack down and stretched a bit and took a drink of water from her canteen. Shaking her head, she replies "I doubt he trying to kill us," a smirk appears "At least not on purpose."

After a few minutes, there was a disturbance up ahead.
A shot.
Two. Thre.
The whump of a rifle mounted grenade launcher.
Shep's voice came over the radio," I could use some help up here."
Shots continued to ring out, followed by a strange animal call.

Her head turning toward where the shots were coming from, Sam replies to Shep over the radio. "On our way." Turning to the others, she makes sure her rifle is ready as she says "let's go." before quietly creeping in the direction shep went.

McCain jumps up at the sound of the battle grabing his plasma cannon. He moves out to the right flank and tries to approach the battle from the side.

As the squad began to approach Shep's position, they spotted him using a large rock as cover and not shooting back. Another shot hammered the rock, giving the others a line of sight to his attackers.
It was a ... Skelebot?

Sam frowns and asks Shep quietly over the radio "Why aren't you shooting back?" While she waits for his response, she finds a place to use as cover and takes a shot at the skelebot. (strike: 6+occ bonuses to be added later)

McCain tries to flank further around to see if there are any other hostiles, he doubts there is only one lone skelbot around.

" Because maybe if I stop, It'll stop." Shep replied , tucked behind the rock. A closer look told the others that it wasn't a standard skelebot. It was much heavier in design, and obviously bothered by whatever Shep did to it. It ignored the others after a quick look at each of the, and fired another shot at Shep.

Sam snaps at Shep "That's obviously not working! What the hell did you do to piss it off so much?" She then fires again at the skelebot hunter (strike: 3+5=8)
