Sam closes her eyes and sighs. 'I'm getting too old for this shit' she thinks to herself. Opening her eyes again, she says quietly. "Stomping around announcing the fact that we're CS isn't going to work in this case. Surely people with your apparatus have had to work undercover that we should have some options. I'm open to ideas."

Cabal cocks an eyebrow "aside from the fact that my species isn't even supposed to be able to survive the juicer conversion process, juicers aren't normally big on 'discrete', 'hiding' or 'undercover'."
"the only things that allow me to control the 'impulses' are my mental conditioning and psychic abilities, but should we, er I, make one slip and this technology is discovered? can you imagine the chaos it could cause?"
"just among the wild stalkers of the Pecos Empire alone, if they dabbled with this tech enough to even remotely replicate this process, the entire Lone Star territory could be compromised. it would probably be safer if I stayed behind on this mission"

Sam sighs. "And what exactly would you be doing if we just leave you here by yourself? I don't like that idea at all. If you're staying behind, someone else is staying behind with you." If it looks like Cabal is about to argue with her, she simply states this again in a firm voice "I will NOT leave any of my squad on their own in enemy territory. End of story." After a minute, she adds "And we have to come up with a reason as to WHY we're leaving 2 team members behind on a very important mission such as this one. Any thoughts?"

" Ma'am?" Cannons' said tentatively as he was coming back in from the outhouse. " Sorry, I didn't mean to overhear. I'll volunteer to stay with the luietenant. I'm in way over my head and I've been a hindrance to you anyways. You'll kill two birds with one stone this way."
Shep looked at Tyneer, and then smirked at Rhys," You're just jealous because you're stuck with standard issue gear."

Cabal shrugged with a wicked grin, seemingly fine with the idea "works for me. us two city boys should get along just fine out here in the boondocks. maybe keep ourselves occupied terrorizing some of the local squirrel population by depriving them of their nuts" he obviously had something in mind

having worked with Shep as long as she has, Sam is immediately suspicious of that smile. "What exactly are you planning, soldier?" she asks in a firm, no-nonsense tone of voice.

"What are you talking about Shep, my armor hasn't failed me yet and kept me alive more times than I care to count. I trust it as much as I trust my rifle and fellow Spec Forces." *looking to Cabal* "Don't do anything to jepoardize the Mission" *hearing the conspiratorial tone in his voice.*

Cabal's face visibly darkened hearing Rhys calling back from the other room. lowering his voice to Sam, "that enhanced hearing of his is going to get your boy in there in trouble one of these days. sorry lieutenant, but I'm trumping your rank by invoking the 'State Security Act'."
"I don't think I need to remind you what 'need-to-know', classified' or 'top-secret' means, and I'm not interested in getting into another pissing match over what mission objectives take priority. suffice it to say that compromising one state secret to deal with another threat to state security isn't an option."
(ooc: Cabal and Sam are still in their "private" meeting. Cannons just happened to stumble in)

Cannons just looked at Cabal in utter suprise. He might be NTSET, but it's clear he had heard of those protocols.
Tyneer shook his head as he stood and went to the cupboard to pick out a few things and tuck them in his pockets. " Brainwashed." He scoffef. " Any decent sniper could pick you apart without putting a scratch on your armor."
Shep had to hold in a chuckle.

Cabal grinned again, this time at Cannons "relax, rookie. you're in good hands" then back at Sam, "Lt. Frasier, Sam, if I may be so informal? this isn't personal. I'm well aware that my diplomacy skills leave something to be desired." trying to let her know there were no hard feelings or malice
"that's why you're a squad leader and I'm an assassin, but in the grand scheme of things we're all pawns, and I have my role to play just as you have yours. the best I can recommend at this point is that you carry on with your mission without me, with or without Cannons is your choice."

Sam simply nods. "Given your circumstances it is probably best that we go undercover without you. I want you and Cannons to head back to base immediately via emergency protocol. No stalling, no side missions of your own, straight back to base. Is that understood?"

Cabal smiles, one of the few times, and snaps a crisp salute as a show of respect "yes, ma'am." turning to Cannons "grab your gear, rookie. you're with me, and try to keep up" as he prepares to depart

Rhys glances to Tyneer, "That's why I wear my bucket as much as possible when in the field."

" I can think of a better reason...," Shep muttered as he continued to fiddle with his rifle with a smirk on his face.
Cannon's nodded to Cabal. "If you get too far ahead, I'll fire a warning shot at you." He turned back to Sam," Good luck, Luietenant. You ever need help on a city gig, look me up. I'm not much good out here in the wilderness." He also offered a salute.
