Chapter 11 New faces, same crap (all)

Lobo hops on the mountaineer but he will hang on the outside of it. Lobo figures that he fights better on the move and he likes to be able to get out of vehicles as quickly as possible.

*Mary watches him hang on the side of the vehicle. He's gonna get shot for sure down there, she thinks to herself... at which point, she changes her view, rolling on her back to watch the sky*

Mendez tries to stablize the soldier;" Ellie is there anything else you can do?" then he turns to Rhys;" Sergeant make sure everyone is on task."

The mountaineer trundles up the creek, following the EPC's trail until they find where it had crawled back onto the bank. Unfortunatley, several large trees had been dropped across the trail, blocking their path.

*Mary looks down at the stream and the trees.* "Vibroswords'll make short work of that. Lobo, Rhys, other new guy, down to the trees, and make sure they're not booby-trapped this time?. I'm moving ahead to look for other mines." *And, with that, she's off ATV and into the bush, looking for signs of mines being planted*

Lobo hops off the mountaineer and begins to watch for an ambush, "Yeah, not a problem, just be careful."

OOC-Do the trees look like they have fallen naturally or were they cut?

"Me? I'm always careful." *Says Mary glibly, followed by cursing as she stumbles of a tree root she hadn't previously seen.*

The forest seems unnaturally quiet except for the mountaineer's engine. The trees seem to be clear of booby traps and simply blocking the path.

As Mariana stumbles, she finds her standing in a unique track of a Rhino-Buffulo, no more than a few hours old

Nope, more like they were uprooted

*Mary curses again* "This is just great... anyone who feels like the universe is conspiring against us, raise their hand." *She says into the comlink. While she waits for someone to quiz her, she wanders quietly into the forest, adjacent to the tracks* "No-one follow. I'll report back." *She says, and she quietly (prowl 17/55) follows the tracks to see if they met up with those of the Mark IX, or if the beast was just out roaming.*

Lobo walks up to the tree obstruction but does not follow Mariana any further. He covers Mariana as long as he can see her, then he looks at the downed trees to figure out the easiest way to remove them.

Dyson calls back over the com. "What'd you find Sgt." he says informally, and privately morosely smirks, raising his hand.

Dyson flips open his pocket comp and thinks to himself *First we have to know if it's a he or a she* as he starts halfheartedly typing prospective names for the mountaineer. *Mary, Louise,... no it doesn't really feel like a she. Tin-man, not a very good name for a something with wheels, but..." Dyson thinks of a metal toy soldier he had many years ago, but puts it down when it brings back other memories from that time. *It doesn't feel like a he or a she, maybe an animal. We've been driving in a river, so what lives in rivers? I'll have to think about it.* Something snaps Dyson back to reality and he starts paying attention again.

*That thing being, of course, the sweet voice Dyson's superior... being Mary, but in a half whisper, like she's not wanting to be heard outside her armour*"You're mumbling, Dyson. And inform the Colonel in there to have everyone but a heavy weapon in their hands. There's a Rhino-buffalo here. And not a few hours ahead." *and she grunts*"If it got that Mark IX, we're dead in the water unless it took a well-travelled route."
*and her voice changed to a sweet, quiet whisper on their private line.* "So, what were ya thinkin' 'bout?"

Lobo starts to cut through the logs with his forearm vibroblades and tossing the logs out of the way.

Dyson asks in a monotone "Rino-buffalo, those are the ones with the ahh" pauses " horn and the claws and the bigness, right?"

After Mary's reply Dyson aswers her question "I wasn't mumbling about anything important, we just don't have a name for the mountaineer. That's like expecting it to get blown up. You've been out here longer than I have, what has a good name and lives in rivers?"

"Yes. The bigness. You can name it too, if we meet it. And, as for what lives in rivers here, your guess is as good as mine" *a pause, as Mary climbs around a tree stuimp* "I've only been in this area for a couple of days... And how does a name help? Oh wait... this is a guy thing, isn't it? you guys like to name things." *Mary continues watching the path ahead.*
